I stayed in the hotel for 2 weeks and the hotel has not changed even after they were renovating, it is still as if you went in the 80s or 90s, it's like we where in the faulty towers.

Cleaners were friendly, but you need to leave your dirty towels on the floor for them to give you clean ones and as a room clean they did not clean the floor once while we were there, they just come in give you clean towels do the bed and that's it.

As for the room we had flushing of the toilet not working properly sometimes I had to throw a bucket of water for it to go down, we had water coming out from the shower tiles that we had to call for maintenance to put some silicone to stop it from having a swimming pool in our bathroom, the aircon switch on the wall was half pulled out from the wall, and tv channels all we had was in Chinese and gharab language apart 1 channel which was the bbc news 24hrs in English I felt like I was in bali in some point, I realise that they need to focus on the tourist prospective but for European people those languages are useless.

In the room all you get is a kettle and 2 mugs no coffee or tea, no fridge I had to pay extra 56 euros to get a fridge in the room and the fridge was so old and so tiny that every night the motor was so loud.

The only changes they did was removing the indoor pool and put small pool on the roof, when on every website it still says there is indoor pool in the hotel, it was not a pleasant experience and I will definitely not be going back, I realise it's a 3 star but they definitely need a lot of work to keep up with the generation, I've been to backpacking hostel and 3 star motels before and every one of them had fridge included in the room without paying extra for it and mini bar and coffee complimentary.

Only the location is optimal, otherwise NO!!! , very small and aesthetically unpretty rooms, corridors with prison-like doors, reception indifferent to the passage of customers, strong smell of cooked at the entrance of the Hotel. Bathroom service with foam bath dispenser.

The room didn’t look as in the hotel photos. The bathroom was old and not very pleasant. Lights were flickering at night. AC in the room was almost nonexistent, we asked at the reception to take care of it and we waited till the next day for someone to come to fix it, just to say that the ventilation is working fine but the hotel stuff is reducing the Freon consumption per room. We had to put wet towels on us to cool in the night, which is not what are you expecting when booking a 3 star hotel. Don’t recommend it.

Booked this hotel as it was a good price good location and advertised an indoor pool. I found out after I’d paid the indoor pool is closed, this was very disappointing as I was with my 2 teenage grandchildren and they love the pool. They did go in the outdoor pool but it was really cold. On arrival at about 9.15pm we greeted by a very friendly man on reception he was very helpful aswell. The room we had looked out onto a busy through road and at times this was too noisy for me but it was only a few days so just put up with it. The room was really clean got a kettle teabags coffee etc, the bathroom clean aswell with fresh towels shampoo and shower gel. They do good here but we didn’t try it price was good for the buffet breakfast at 8 euro a head. I’d stay here again but I’d want a room the other side or with seaview. The beach is on the doorstop the tourist street about 10-15 min walk there’s bars and restaurants within walking distance and McDonald’s and pizza hut on the beach. Tip download the Bolt app if you need a taxi it compares the best price

Please don't use this hotel it is terrible. The advertised indoor swimming pool was closed two years ago, and looks as it it will never open again. The Rooftop swimming pool is the size of a postage stamp. The mattress on the bed was lumpy, the pillows cheap. The shower had no slip mat, no handrail, and no soap holder. Breakfast was appalling and on speaking with management was informed that the breakfast is provided by outside catering. Twice in eight days I returned to my room in the afternoon to find housekeeping had not attended. I was allocated on arrival late a night, a very small room and complained and was offered for 5 Euros a night extra a room with a sea view. The only way to see the sea was to hang over the small balcony and look right down the street and see the sea at the end of the road. Some of the receptionists were helpful - especially the female ones. The males were not. Please do not bother staying here, you have plenty of other choices. I was booked in for fourteen nights and left after eight nights in disgust.

Response from Robert Farrugia , General Manager at Primera Hotel
Responded Nov 15, 2023
Dear Mr Douglas Having Discussed this issue together in my office and giving you all the time and explanations needed ,i find it very unethical from your side to write this review From day one you had issues with everything and every one . You came to complain that your room was not done in the Morning for which you never requested . You complained very rudely with the Receptionist and the Maid , You most probably even complain that the sun shines in the Morning. Saying it how it is, you just came for the remembrance day Parade and since you did nothing else but complain you decided to leave earlier. You have been given an upgrade to a Seaview room at half the supplement and then after seeing the room and paying you had the face to come and complain in my office that you had to look sideways to see the sea. When you came to my office you had already booked your early return to go back home . When you told me you where an ex service man i even tried to convince you to change your mind but no you kept on complaining about everything. In these situation i could have done nothing more, For whoever is reading my reply please have a look at the Pictures of our rooms and Pool Deck. Regards Robert General Manager

The reception staff, night porters and cleaning staff were all very friendly and helpful. Room on a higher floor with view of the square, clearly had been re decorated recently and was both spacious, comfortable bed, sheets changed every 3 days, towels when you wanted them. Breakfast was freshly cooked and a good selection, same as in many other hotels (including more expensive) i have stayed at in Malta. Can not comment on evening meals as was only b+b The dining room was a little tired but clean and the staff very cheerful. The hotels position is perfect and the noise from the square didn't really make much difference. The air con unit was both ice cold and silent. Nice small rooftop pool and loungers with excellent views across the bay. Well recommended for a budget hotel.

Having stayed in several hotels in the area (Dolmen, Seaview, Topaz), I decided to go for the closest to the action for my latest trip. I believe the Primera Hotel has been undergoing upgrades since COVID. The results of these are visible in some areas and in others there is work to be done.

All the staff were superb. Friendly, helpful and welcoming. I didn't catch many names, but Njelli??Nellie?? on reception, Clayton night reception, were great. Housekeeping were also polite and very friendly.

The room, on the second floor, was quite large and comfortable. The furniture (wardrobes, drawers, bedside cabinets and fridge all looked brand new. The bed was two fairly basic metal frames with relatively poor mattresses, which had very stiff edges so there was no chance of a spread across the two singles to treat as a double bed.

The bathroom was again a good size and was clean with what looked like fairly new tiling. The only downside of the bathroom was the ridiculous shower cubicle with doors that don't roll on the runners but must be almost picked up and put into place when showering.

The roof terrace again looks as though it has been recently renovated and was a really surprising treat. Wonderfully clean and tidy. Plenty of loungers and a pool that is big enough to have a cooling dip when the sun gets a little hot. A TV plays tranquil music and WC/changing facilities were a nice touch. I would guess there is enough space for a small bar or a pool table up there if the owners were so inclined. I watched the Saturday of the Malta airshow display with a great view over St. Pauls bay. Such a shame that the Sunday was canceled due to the high winds.

The location can not be beaten. So many bars and restaurants are within a few minutes (in some cases seconds) walk. Less than a hundred yards to the promenade beach and swimming.

All in all I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, on the understanding that The Primera is not perfect but I believe they are working to get there.
I for one will be back.
Many thanks

This hotel was very good for its price, our room was perfect for two. We felt safe and very welcomed by the staff. The cleaners were very respectful and did an amazing job at replacing and tidying our room.

The location of this hotel is 5/5 it is quite literally centre to everything you possibly need: food, drinks, cafes, restaurants, the beach(2 min walk), shops, food shops, souvenirs, plenty of bus stops too if you did want to travel out.

The breakfast was lovely a nice start to the day and worth every penny.

Our overall experience was all we could ever of hoped for, the only thing I will say is on trip advisor the pictures don’t really represent an up to-date version of the hotel as it has been refurbished. However the photos are somewhat up to date on love holidays where we booked this hotel through.

One step away from the center of Bugibba and the beaches and central to reach beaches and centers of interest on the island by bus, stops very close. A good solution for those who need to have a base from which to leave in the morning and return in the evening. The pool service on the top floor terrace is good, as are the excursions to the partner islands. The room is spacious and needs to be reviewed in terms of care and cleanliness but also the comfort of the mattresses.

The hotel is very clean and very central with plenty of available snack foods available locally, including McDonald's and a pastie place near the beach and plenty of great kebab shops.
The pool and its sunbeds and umbrella s were great. It was near the beach and about 20 minutes to the bus depot to head into Valletta.
There are plenty of bars and night life just outside the hotel and plenty of close by tourist shops to buy presents.
There is also a bank and cash card under 100 metres from the entrance to the hotel, which is handy.
Swimming at the beach is also easy to get to as there's a path.
Air conditioning was fabulous.
In all I will be returning to Malta and will stay at the same hotel,as the staff were all so helpful.
I found malta to be very safe as I was a solo traveller and the people were all really friendly.
