We had an amazing stay at the Olivier House Hotel! Our room was spacious, clean, and incredibly charming. The staff were very accommodating and helpful with our bags when we had a late flight. Water, tea, and coffee are available in the lobby at all times, which was a great treat. The location cannot be beat, we were able to walk everywhere and use the hotel as our home base during our stay. We cannot wait to return!

If you love old charm that hasn't been modified, this is the place! The room size was good for a couple. The bed was comfy. The bathroom was good size with large shower. Enjoy the torn wallpaper, the creeky floor and knob missing drawers. Hallways are tight at times and the elevator a creepy small. All of that adds to the old warmth. What history! The staff was friendly and helpful. Just around the corner from the action.

We loved staying at the Olivier House Hotel. It's a very charming historical home located within a 5 min walk of nearly everything in the French Quarter. It's less than half a block away from Bourbon St. We didn't experience any noise issues. We had a beautiful balcony view of the city and the courtyard. The only things I would critique would be the throw pillows on the couch were torn to bits (they're not antiques, so I think they should be replaced), some type of dead flies near the balcony inside the room (but it is Louisiana, so maybe that's normal), the water pressure wasn't very good and the pool looked pretty but was too nasty with algae to swim in. I didn't see anyone swimming at all. The staff is friendly and accommodating and we LOVED the hotel house cats, they were adorable. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again.

Hi Jessica, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm glad to hear that you found your room to be quiet. The rooms with interior balconies are good in that way. One can still enjoy a balcony, but in a more calm atmosphere than the street side balconies. The street side balconies are a lot of fun, but not for everybody. I checked the throw pillows in your room, and sure enough they were a bit roughed up. Sorry about that. I don't know why that would be, except to say sometimes guest can be a little hard on furniture. None the less, house keeping should have noticed it and replaced them. I checked the water pressure and it seemed normal, but we will look into it further. As for the swimming pool, in fact many guest have been swimming in it this month, but maybe the circulation pump was down or was being worked on while you were there. Our pool guy usually does a pretty good job of keeping things in order, but I'm sorry that it wasn't in top shape while you were there. Thanks for staying with us and we hope to see you again, Jim

We recently stayed two nights in this historic French Quarter hotel which was interesting, atmospheric, and very New Orleans. Our balcony queen room and bed were comfortable; staff were pleasant. Decor could be described as "shabby genteel": antique furnishings, some in need of some TLC. Pros: location: centrally located in the French Quarter within easy walking distance of everything; atmosphere; room size; bathroom. Cons: location: one block from Bourbon Street and LOUD, 24/7! Our room faced the street, and only a sound machine with white noise cranked up full blast allowed us to sleep. Rooms facing the courtyard may be quieter. A single, tiny elevator, and many changes of floor level and steps made bringing luggage in and out a bit of a challenge--just one of the quirks to be expected in a historic property, though. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for anyone wanting to be close to the action of Bourbon Street, but we'll probably seek out quieter digs next time we're in New Orleans.

Hi SJS, Thanks for writing a review. I'm guessing you must have been with us on an unusually boisterous weekend in the French Quarter. Sometimes it can be noisy in the rooms facing the street. I do wish you had let us know, as we would have been glad to move you to an inside room, which as many other reviewers have stated, are very quiet no matter how wild Bourbon St. or the outside crowds are. Some guest like the street facing rooms as it allows them to be in or at least watch the action, while others want a different, more tranquil, experience during their stay in New Orleans. Fortunately we can offer both to our guest. Either way, as you mentioned, all the rooms have white noise machines, and the front desk staff keeps ear plugs on hand, although it is very rare that guest ask for them. Anyway, thanks so much for staying with us and for taking the time to write a review. Next time you're in town, no matter where you are staying, please feel free to come by to have a coffee or snack or just enjoy the courtyard and take a break from sight seeing. Best wishes, Jim

Do not look any further for a hotel room in New Orleans in the French Quarter! This hotel is unique, takes you back in time. We stayed in a queen room, (room 403) but the bed was a king. There was a small couch, chair, fridge in our room. The shower was big, always had warm water. The elevator is quite unique, measures about 18x55. There were four of us and we could all fit in as long as we stood sideways, it was a hoot every time we were in there. There are steps you can also take. The hotel provides coffee, bottled water, and cookies at all times. They also have a little, what they call a speak easy. You can buy wine by the bottle or glass, beer and I do believe so other drinks. The bonus of this hotel is that is about a block from Bourbon Street, you can walk everywhere. Be careful while walking anywhere as the streets have holes, bricks sticking up. There is a pool, but we did not use it. There are no lounge chairs as the pool is in a small area. The staff was great, clean towels everyday. We think we had a ghost in our room, my husbands shaving cream can was found on the ground in the morning and when we went to bed it was in the bag!

Hey Kermit67, Thank you for your review. I got a laugh out of the image of the four of you sideways in the elevator. A little fact - the elevator is original to the building. It is definitely one of the smallest ever! Sounds like you enjoyed the quirkiness of it as do many other guests. That little thing has become almost iconic due to guests talking about it! Another interesting thing you mentioned, which is also a topic among some guests, are ghosts. Just for fun I'll tell you a couple of insider things that are not common knowledge. Our family has owned the hotel for over fifty years and generally we don't make too much about ghosts one way or the other - family and staff are a mix of opinions as to what is true. I myself have never seen a ghost, but have heard many stories from guests. There are two things that I do know to be strange and commonly happen. First, the elevator often stops on the third floor for no reason ( this could just be a mechanical malfunction however we have never found a technition in 50 years who could figure out the issue!). Second is the lamp finials - which are the little decorative screw piece on top of a lampshade - go missing all the time! Over the years, we have replaced hundreds of them! We can't imagine why a guest would take them, or a house keeper would remove them, so we have always been baffled by the fact that it happens so often. We do not, and most of our guest do not feel the hotel has a creepy or spooky vibe, but rather, as you said, someplace that takes you back in time. It is fun for guest and staff to ponder and discuss the various stories and what they all mean. We shall add yours to the list of Olivier House lore! It was a pleasure to have ya'll with us and we hope to see you (and the ghost) in the future. Until then, Jim
