Location! Location! Location! Nowhere is this more important than the French Quarter where the sights, sounds and adventures are unlimited. Maison DuBois will beckon and entice you with an ambiance unmistakably New Orleans. First time visitors are struck by the lush tropical foliage of hibiscus, banana trees, jasmine and queen palms that line the courtyard while the fountain splashes playfully into the pool's waters. Each guestroom is uniquely decorated to enhance their comfort and appeal.

This was such a wonderful change from the hotel chains we normally stay at. The large room had a wonderful sitting area and beautiful antiques in the room and through out the house. The host services were wonderful giving us all the hot spots and local favorites through the city of New Orleans and surrounding areas. The French Quarter location of Maison DuBois was perfect. Walkable to all attractions yet hidden away on a wonderful quiet neighborhood street. We loved it and already booked our next stay!

Maison DuBois was not our first choice for lodging for our honeymoon in November of 2006, but with a 30,000 attendee National Association of Realtor's convention in town, hotel rooms were limited. However, upon arriving in the city we quickly realized that we had done better than we had dreamed in booking the Orleans Suite at Maison DuBois.

The B&B is a lovely, bright yellow home located on Dauphin, one house from the corner of Esplanade. The location simply cannot be beat. The French Quarter is a very short walk away, as is Frenchman Street and the Marigny. The landmark bar Port of Call is located kitty-corner from the B&B across Esplanade and provides a well-known landmark for cab rides as well as a good place to begin or end your day with a drink. The neighborhood is quiet, save for occasional mid-morning hammering of construction in progress, and safe. The residential neighborhood is a laid-back alternative to the perpetual bustle of the French Quarter, and B&B is warm, welcoming alternative to the city's major hotels.

Tom and Gary, the B&B's owners, were charming, friendly men who were more than happy to give advice on restaurants and things to do and see, but were equally willing to be unobtrusive and let us have our privacy during our week-long stay. We usually saw Tom for a few minutes in the morning as he laid out the day's continental breakfast and made sure the coffee was hot and fresh. Otherwise, he was a phone call away if we needed anything. (Breakfast each morning is an ample assortment of croissants, muffins, rolls, toast, bagels, cereals, coffee, tea, and juices. Because only a continental breakfast is offered, guests do not need to let Tom know ahead of time when they will be eating, and can come and go as they please in the kitchen.)

The house is clean and beautifully decorated with antique and reproduction furniture and art. I was especially charmed by the intricately hand painted plates on the kitchen wall featuring scenes from Russian fairy tales. Tom made sure to point out the "history mark" on the dining room table where the home's crystal chandelier had fallen during Katrina. The Orleans Suite, where we stayed, is located at the rear of the home and has a short, private hallway/entrance before entering the bedroom. This adds a little more privacy to the suite and keeps things quieter when there are other guests in the home. The queen bed was comfortable, with lovely linens. The room is bright and airy, and especially inviting with the French balcony doors opened and the ceiling fan blowing in a gentle breeze. The balcony was a great place to read the morning newspaper and for my husband to have an evening cigar. It overlooks the beautiful salt water pool and hut tub and the lovely flowering shrubs and trees of the yard.

The Orleans Suite does not have a tub, but the stall shower was perfectly adequate with good water pressure and ample hot water. There were always more towels than we needed, and they were fluffy, soft and smelled divine. The sitting area was small, but cozy, with a comfortable love seat and wing back chair, large coffee table and television with VCR. (The B&B has a selection of videos which guests may borrow and view in their rooms. We watched Chocolat one afternoon.) The combination of bedroom and sitting room, plus access to the B&B's refrigerator, gave us ample room to spread out and put our things away so that we did not spend seven days living out of suitcases. It truly felt like a home away from home.

High recommended. We would (and probably will!) stay at Maison DuBois again!

I can't overstate how happy we were with Maison DuBois. Our group of friends rented four of the five rooms here for a 4-night stay. We worked with the property owner directly, who was very helpful and gracious, and also very willing to let us do our own thing. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had the Esplanade, which was my favorite, with a king bed and balcony, but all were good. The pool! That backyard is a serene oasis of happiness. We swam and hot-tubbed and just hung out (with plastic cups, of course!) at the pool several times. It's a private home, for adults, so no noise, running, kids having questionable functions in the hot tub or other reasons you avoid hotel pools. The location was perfectly situated near a 24-hour convenience store, complete with local color, the Port of Call for awesome burgers, and a very quick walk to French Quarter and Frenchman Street, where we ended up every night for awesome music. For BnB fans, be forewarned that the breakfast is not a luxury affair, but a simple spread of commercial bread and cereals, fruits, yogurt, etc. No problem for our group, as we were happy to explore the excellent local restaurants without being too full.
I spent a huge amount of time researching NOLA hotels and AirBnB's, and I was apprehensive that someone in our group would be unhappy but in fact we were all thrilled with our find. This is an excellent choice for a group of people who are old enough to respect others' property but still young enough to party with the best of them. I will definitely return.
The only tiny complaint we had was with the confounded shutters on the front door, whose only purpose seemed to be a sobriety check.

We rented out the entire property for a bachelorette weekend for our friend. There were about 10 of us, in our 30s, 25% of us were pregnant so it wasn't like it was "Girls Gone Wild" or anything, it was a fairly subdued girls' getaway. We loved the property and the rooms and were enjoying the pool on the first day when Gary, the owner, came outside and accused us of breaking the plaster fleur de lis pool decoration. He went on to accuse us of hanging on it. We all stared at him like he was crazy because we had no idea what he was talking about since none of us had been hanging on it and we certainly hadn't broken it. Then he stormed out and said we'd have to pay for it when we settled our final bill.

Throughout the rest of the weekend, Gary made us all extremely uncomfortable by cornering anyone he could and harassing them about how they would have to pay for the fleur de lis. We all calmly told him over and over we hadn't broken it, we weren't paying for it, and he could take the issue up with the maid of honor who was coordinating the weekend, yet he persisted. Then upon check out, when we went to take photos of the fleur de lis, lest he try to charge our credit card for it, he confronted us again and said he was going to seek legal action against us if we didn't pay for it. We again calmly explained to him that we had not damaged it and that we would not be paying for it. Then as we were getting our luggage to leave, Gary confronted us AGAIN and said that he couldn't believe that we were making Tom pay for the fleur de lis out of his paycheck because we had allegedly damaged it. So let me get this straight, he's going to pursue legal action against us AND take the money out of Tom's paycheck? Doesn't seem ethical does it?

Gary's behavior towards us was disrespectful and unprofessional and his constant harassment made for a very uncomfortable weekend for people who had paid a lot of money to rent out EVERY ROOM in his B&B. Do yourself a favor and don't stay here, because Gary might find something else that is damaged and try and pin it on you and the next thing you know, you're going to have his "legal team" coming after you for allegedly breaking a $30 pool decoration instead of coming away with warm vacation memories. AVOID THIS PROPERTY!

My wife and I just purchased a bed and breakfast ourselves and so we were excited to come to New Orleans were they are known for the numerous bed and breakfast accommodations. We looked at various locations and found Maison DuBois Bed and Breakfast to be the nicest due to its location, large rooms and its wonderful pool/spa area. The host services is what you would hope for (wonderful and helpful in all aspects) and the atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable. Many B&Bs can be kind of stuffy but not this one. The location was perfect to walk the french quarter, restaurants and all other attractions. We had heard some negative things about safety so we were curious to see if the press we had heard was accurate but we felt very safe at all times. Maison DuBois gives us hope that we can try to duplicate their hospitality and laid back feel in an upscale establishment. We really felt at home here.

I love this place.  This was my fourth stay at Maison Dubois.  Tom and Gary are wonderful hosts.  They took great care of us and made us feel right at home.  I always enjoyed my morning conversations with Tom and the other guests over breakfast.  The rooms are beautifully appointed while still feeling comfortable.  That's not always an easy combination to pull off.  There's also the pool and hot tub which we put to good use after biking around New Orleans (check out Bicycle Michaels on Frenchmen Street) and volunteering to rebuild houses in St. Bernard Parish for the St. Bernard Project.

Maison Dubois is in a great location.  It's on the edge of the French Quarter so the craziness of Bourbon Street or the galleries and antique shops on Royal Street in the French Quarter are a short walk away.  There's a great bookstore off of Dauphine Street a few blocks away just before you get to the park. It's also incredibly convenient to the restaurants, bar and music venues on Frenchmen Street in the Marigny.

In terms of safety, I felt fine. New Orleans is a city, so you need to be smart, but I didn't feel that I had to be overly cautious.

I've stayed in a couple of other very nice B&Bs in the French Quarter and once at the Fairmont Hotel on Canal St., but Maison Dubois is the one I return to.  It really does feel like a home away from home.

Tom met us at the door and from then on he was determined to make our stay memorable. The house is lovely, clean and spacious. We listened to Tom's advice on how to get the best out of New Orleans, you ignore him at your peril. As a result we experienced a vacation to remember. New Orleans is coming back and its thanks to hosts like Tom that people are returning to visit and to live. We walked more than we normally do on holiday but felt safe in this little haven. We should have tried the hot tub. We should have had that massgae at the Hilton but I would always settle for a jazz band. Can't wait to return. A guy tried to sell us a timeshare. With places like Maison Dubois at hand we don't need a timeshare thank you. A really great visit. We will return and stay here again without a doubt. We have eaten in Provence, in Tuscany, and the Napa Valley. There is nowhere better than N'Orleans. A brilliant place to stay and enjoy this lovely city.

No words can describe the hospitality we have received over the years from this exceptional B&B! We are always welcomed like family (the kind you're glad to see!) The comfortable rooms are magazine perfect in decor and immaculately maintained. No need is left unattended here. It's in a great location, just a few yards from the French Quarter, yet far enough from the "maddening crowd". Plenty of privacy. The pool is welcomed respite from the tropical New Orleans heat...and the jacuzzi is a cozy meeting spot for relaxing after dinner. We love this place so much, we held our wedding here almost two years ago. Our hosts worked tirelessly to make it a perfect memory. These guys are long time/lifetime residents of the city and know all the greatest spots...get the inside scoop from locals! Come for a visit and you'll make it your New Oleans home as well!

Just returned from a stay at the Maison DuBois, a lovely b&b just across Esplanade from the French Quarter. A great location for walking to the shops, restaurants, Jackson Square, etc. Close by, but on the QUIET side of the quarter. The rooms are large, comfortable, and well-appointed with antiques, oriental carpets, and decorative objects from the owner's travels around the world. Tom, our host, was so very gracious - a terrific source of information about everything New Orleans. And the bonus? The tropical garden, pool, and hot tub - a relaxing retreat at the end of a hot day.

Wonderful place! The hospitality is terrific (Tom the owner is extremely helpful.) and the place is beautiful. Very well maintained. Each bedroom has a separate bath. The location is perfect, close enough to walk to the French Quarter but away from the noise. I recommend it highly. One thing to know is that since it is a B&B, the kitchen, living room, dining room and pool area are communal so you must be willing to be with others you may not know!
