My husband and I stayed for 5 nights in early October. The conditions during our stay were unique not only because of COVID but also because the hotel was providing housing for residents who were displaced due to Hurricane Laura. Many of those residents would place their folding chairs outside of the hotel to gather, and just within the entrance was a desk for Red Cross, as well as emergency personnel situated off the lobby as well. We were pleased that there was a security guard stationed near the entrance checking for hotel keys. We weren’t aware of these unique circumstances before arriving, but we would be out and about most of the time anyway. It didn’t affect our stay except for when I needed to speak to the front desk and there was only one agent, who was in a conversation with a Red Cross worker for about 10 minutes before I just interrupted them to get assistance quickly for a question I had.

Another downside was that housekeeping would only come every 2-3 days and just because of timing, we arrived on Wednesday and would be due for housekeeping on Friday, but because of Hurricane Delta scheduled to hit Louisiana, housekeeping would not be providing service that Friday. And housekeeping doesn’t work on weekends at all. That said, we never got housekeeping service the entire stay we were there, since our checkout was on Monday. We were able to request towels, toilet paper, etc. from the front desk when needed.

The room itself was fine - bathroom and room were large enough. The king bed was comfortable, and we had a view facing Canal Street. (We stayed in the Astor tower, 14th floor.) The one thing we did end up buying were air fresheners because there was some musty odor in the room. Each morning my husband would Febreeze the room to help with the smell. They did provide ear plugs in our room as a courtesy because of the possible street noise, which we didn’t need.

The location was great!! Since it’s on the corner of Bourbon and Canal, we could easily walk through the French Quarter to get to all the restaurants as well as Jackson Square, the French Market and Harrah’s Casino. The St. Charles Streetcar stop is just across the street, which we used to visit the Garden District. It only costs $1.25 a ride, and I was able to get change from the front desk. Most everything is walkable from the hotel (if you don’t mind walking, like my husband and I don’t.) It is also conveniently located by a CVS and Walgreens, so we were able to buy bottled water and snacks.

Since room service and the pool were out of service because of the pandemic, I can’t say anything about these.

Overall, it was a good, comfortable stay. We did get a good deal from another travel site ($600 for 5 nights). Please be aware that they put an extra $300 hold on my card for security, so I guess that’s $60 per night. It was returned back to the card after our stay.

Thanks for the stay...we hope to visit New Orleans again soon!

You really can’t beat the location of this major hotel chain with full amenities for a high end hotel right on Bourbon street.

I stayed over a Friday/Saturday three weeks before Mardi Gras so it was rather busy. Check in was quick and efficient. I had a duite on the 5th floor with a view of Canal suite. The room was quiet although earplugs were provided on the bedside table.

The gym had a nice selection of weights and treadmills an there is an outdoor pool.

Housekeeping for done reason skipped my room so I spoke to the staff who were in the hallway at 3pm but they seem uninterested and still didn’t come after an hour. I spoke to another person in the hall after that and they said they would call. By 5p, I called housekeeping and they told me i had placed a card on my door for non housekeeping in return for 500 amenity points. I told them that there was no such sign—however, my two neighbors did have such a sign. No matter, just send someone now. They said it was too late.

I checked my account and there was no deposit of the points as I clearly had not put such a sign on the door. Twenty minutes later, I did receive fresh towels from housekeeping.

It was quite busy from all the pre Mardi Gras volume and festivities.

At check out, I commented on the lack of housekeeping and I was awarded 600 points then and an apology for the mix up,

Want to preempt this review that we stayed here the weekend of the CFP national championship game, so was a busy weekend for the area and for this hotel.
Staff were very friendly (except hotel operator, for some reason can't call directly to front desk without a hassle, was trying to check on things we had discussed with them.... were pretty much stonewalled)
Initially after waiting in room for awhile to get promised roll away bed, then calling to be told by operator that roll a ways were not allowed in the room we were in (after confirming making the reservation, then confirming en route, and confirming was ok and would be taken care of during checkin). Finally got manager to ok and roll away was provided. Then took car to self parking garage to find the rate was double per day what we were informed during booking and checkin. (again, staff was very nice and accommodating when we let them know). We were in a larger room, nice, clean. One mattress, though no issue with being comfortable, sounded like bubble wrap everytime someone moved. Maintenance came to look and commented that "this mattress is junk". Again, staff very friendly and reduced rate because of this, but another added "thing". One of our party was elderly but can walk ok, so inquired with concierge about using street cars to get to a location, but found out that after taking one line to a switchover place, found out that the next line was out of service all week. Again, just feel like concierge being the local expert should maybe be aware of this (maybe asking too much on this one??) Icing on cake was when checking out, went to valet to get car brought up, was told no cars could be brought to hotel that AM, we had to board a bus with our luggage (loaded by the valet), transported to garage, then load up in our car. Again, nothing major here, but did add about 30-40 min to our departure ahead of a long drive home.
Again, not one isolated thing that was majorly bad, just everything added up, and staff was nice about everything once brought to attention, but would expect more from a higher end chain and not have to spend our stay with added inconveniences.
Other comments, location is great to access bourbon street, but very noisy, bass pounding in our room from bar nearby until 3AM nightly, but hey, you are on Bourbon Street. Front entrance and street access (where valet is) very very busy, almost chaotic.
Facility is clean, lobby nicely done, room was clean but has kind of old town feel (not a bad thing), gym room was nicer than most with good assortment of cardio machines and dumbell area.
We enjoyed our stay, but probably would pick another place to stay next time.

Hello Jim N, Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience and share it with us. With the goals to achieve high-quality standards, deliver guest satisfaction and serve traveler's needs, Crowne Plaza was born. We are proud to be a hotel that is easy to do business with, unfortunately, during your stay, this does not seem to be the case, as there were several instances that we may have failed to deliver. For this, I would like to apologize that you were not given the standards of hospitality that we expect from our staff and management. We have taken the liberty of providing them your feedback and coaching to ensure that these issues are not repeated. On the other hand, we are happy that you loved your clean room and took full advantage of the accessibility of the property. Thank you for embracing life here in New Orleans and making us part of it. Despite the experience, we hope that you feel recharged and inspired. after your visit. As we strive to continuously achieve high-quality standards, deliver guest satisfaction and serve traveler's needs, your comments are instrumental and valued. We hope to host your party in the future should you give us another chance to be your hotel of choice. Hector P Case Manager IHGService

The Astor Crowne Plaza is a great hotel located in the heart of the French Quarter. The staff there was GREAT and met all my groups needs. The group manager Alicia Fosselman did an awesome job with my block of rooms. She answered all my emails and calls no matter the day or time. Every time I go to New Orleans, I'm staying there.

The last time I was here, the valet service wrecked my car. But looking past that, the hotel service experience was good. This is one of the reasons we rre-booked this trip. Unfortunately, and I am sick of hearing its because of Covid, the hotel service experience was not up to par. You either get your service up to par by any means possible or you quit charging $200 night for a room. My expectations for $200 a night is that your room will be cleaned without my prompting and I don’t have to come to the lobby to get fresh towels and minuscule bars of soap. I don’t expect after paying for valet service to be carted off in a shuttle bus to a parking lot to retrieve my car. I also don’t expect to have to step over sleeping drunks to get into my hotel. Upon our exit there was no bell hop to help in retrieving bags from the room. Disappointing.!!!!!

We stayed here for for the weekend. We had no issues with the front desk, the cleanliness of the rooms, getting extra towels and blankets for our stay. It was pouring rain the entire visit and one thing I noticed was how attentive they were to keeping their floors as dry and clean as possible to prevent slips. I appreciated that. We also saw hotel staff every time we went in and out and although we didn't need them it was nice to know someone was always available if we had an issue. The hotel lobby is small, but very pretty.

Just be aware that the hotel itself being on Canal Street does mean that you have to walk through some crowds of people who do not care to harass you as you go by. This is not the fault of the hotel, but it is something you need to be aware of before you go. And if you make multiple trips in and out of the hotel this gets really old really quick.

Just finishing a 3 nights stay at the Crown Plaza. Fantastic location on the edge of the French Quarter. The room was a bit disappointing: noisy AC, odd layout, small TV, no fridge. The bed was very comfortable though. Be aware that if you have breakfast included in the rate you cannot have it as room service. And the room service dinner menu was appalling. Breakfast in the The restaurant was also very disappointing. Very limited choice buffet, and if you decide to come after 8:30, there hardly anything left. The quality of the food was also poor. The opening hours are very restrictive: 07:30 til 10:00.
The dinner experience was a bit better except on the second night when I was left feeling like a nuisance to the hosts, and when shown to a dirty table in the hotel bar, well I decided to leave.
That’s another theme to the hotel: uninterested staff. Reception staff have obviously better things to do than talk to guests, except the young black guy with glasses, the only friendly staff member I encountered. Housekeeping is another issue, room not done until 2pm... really!
So unless you are desperate to collect IHG points, chose another hotel.

I like to visit New Orleans (one of America's most unique cities) at least once a year. This year I decided to make this my first destination coming out of the Pandemic. Astor Crowne Plaza boasts it's French Quarter location along with photos of rooms that look nothing like what I received. As a long time IHG member I do expect more than what I received during my 4 day visit. I requested a room with a view away from the Elevator, What I received was a room with a view of 3 walls (Photos Provided)and a room right next to the Elevator to which I heard every Drunken Bachelorette party coming and going throughout the evenings. Housekeeping is still a request only feature. Rooms do not come with Water bottles, Toiletries do not include Lotion. The mattress frame has several metal pieces protruding (Photos provided) Other issues: Asked for extra Blanket was told there were none by The front desk, Hotel was littered with Empty Beer cans and trash and should beverages every morning. Doormen seemed more concerned with young ladies walking by on Canal street than guests coming and going.

We spent two nights at the Crown Astor. While the lobby has an air of grandeur, the room looks like not much more than a budget hotel.

There were stains on the carpet and lampshades (see picture…how does a lampshade get stained). And housekeeping never came to refresh our towels, make the bed, replenish toiletries, etc. The staff doesn’t sign the cleaning cards, so I guess no one wants to take responsibility.

I get better service at a Holiday Inn. I wouldn’t bother to spend this kind of money again on the Crown Astor. The upside is the good location, very central to the French Quarter.
