Hotel's Favorite
The minute we walked in we were stopped in our tracks by the sheer beauty of the hotel. The entire design aesthetic was incomparable, even down to the foot holder sculpture for the complimentary pistachio nuts in the foyer! This is a hotel for art and design lovers. The plush carpeting in the hallways and lighting and wallcoverings all added to the luxury feel. And to top it off, the spacious bathroom has the most gorgeous italian tile ever encountered anywhere. Staff was wonderful and helpful, with special shout out to Sarah and Sean. Tremendous disappointm ent was not being shown the absolutely gorgeous bar area until the day we checked out. If we had known about it we would have gladly spent every evening there. So beautiful. Look forward to returning often.

This is a beautiful Hotel. Luxurious, stunningly decorated and absolutely immaculate. The twice a day housekeeping was nothing short of superb. The Hotel is also well-located, close enough to walk to the French Quarter but nowhere near its noise and crowds. The speakeasy bar-Marilou was a hidden! delight. Most of all, the service was exceptional. Special shout out to Sean who truly made us feel like family in our home away from home in New Orleans. Well done-an amazing stay!

Beautiful hotel. Very comfortable and welcoming. Glad we stayed here. Enjoyed the hidden bar as well. Called to make our reservation and the person on the phone was very sweet and so helpful. Our stay was quiet, comfortable and our room was gorgeous.

Maison de la Luz is not what it used to be. It is now run by very poorly trained staff who are incapable of providing basic hospitality or addressing noise disturbances late at night. The sound proofing is terrible in the rooms closer to the front of the hotel - you can clearly hear the elevators opening/closing, activity in the hallway, neighbors talking, drunk people shouting on the street in the middle of the night, and the insanely loud streetcar that passes by every few minutes 24/7 (sounds like a giant dumpster being dragged around). This is such a shame because the hotel is beautiful. Definitely request for a room facing the back of the hotel if you do decide to stay here. However, for $500/night I would explore other options. SEE BELOW FOR MY FULL REVIEW: It saddens me to have to write this review as Maison de la Luz used to be one of my favorite hotels in the country. My partner and I fell in love with the hotel during our first visit to New Orleans in March 2020 - the gorgeous Wes Anderson style interior design, the speakeasy in the lobby, and most of all, the friendly concierge team that went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful time in NOLA. We were assigned a spacious corner room in the back of the hotel and had the most peaceful stay. 3 days flew by and we wished we didn’t have to leave. This was our last vacation before the pandemic hit, so we would often reminisce about our time here while the world was in lockdown. Finally, we returned to NOLA last month and of course, chose to stay at Maison de la Luz even though room rates were way higher then they were 3 years ago (this time it was about $500/night). However, to our dismay, we noticed that things weren’t what they used to be from the moment we arrived. It was about 6pm but no one was at the entrance to help us with our luggages and the doors were locked, so we had to buzz the intercom to be let in. Sean assisted us with our check-in and it was the strangest experience. There was a complete lack of hospitality - he did not ask us where we were visiting from or if we needed any local recommendations for our trip. He recited the hotel amenities in a robotic way and gave the impression that he would much rather be somewhere else. When we returned to our room after dinner around 10:30pm, we noticed that the soundproofing was very poor (we could hear our neighbors’ conversations and every activity in the hallway) so I called the front desk to ask if we could switch rooms. Sean picked up and let me know that he was getting ready to end his shift in 20 minutes so I should ask someone else in the morning, then hung up without asking if I needed any assistance. I was appalled but too tired from traveling so we tried to go to sleep. At 1:30am, I was startled awake by a group of men shouting and causing a ruckus right outside the hotel. I called the front desk again and this time someone else picked up. I told the staff member about the commotion outside and he simply said that he saw it too. I was perplexed and said, “Ok then can you do something about it? Ask them to leave or maybe call the police?” He responded that he’s not sure he could do that but he would find out and let me know. What kind of an answer is that?! Does the hotel not have any protocol to address disturbances to hotel guests? I had to call the front desk multiple times until he finally sent security to escort the group off property. The next morning, I spoke with the front desk manager about my experience and she was kind enough to upgrade us to a suite facing the front of the hotel. We could definitely hear less noise from the hallway but the street car that passes by every few minutes 24 hours a day was insanely loud. It sounds like a giant dumpster being dragged around. Unfortunately, the hotel was not able to move us to a room facing the back of the hotel. We barely slept during our 3 nights’ stay and left feeling even more tired than when we arrived. It saddens me to say this but I think Maison de la Luz’s days are over unless it there’s brand new management. We’ll definitely explore other hotels (perhaps a true 5-star property for the same price) the next time we return to NOLA.

The staff (concierges to housekeeping), all ladies and gentlemen, and the soul of the Maison de la Luz, are exceptionally professional, gracious, charming and talented (thank you chef(s); breakfast, Bar Marilou snacks and nightly complimentary cookies were delicious). The ease and assurance with which they welcome and attend to their guests is one of three reasons your stay will be the most lovely you experience away from home. The accommodations and accoutrements are the other two. Go, stay, enjoy.

We stayed here for 4 nights in March (after a poor experience in Memphis) and the accommodation & staff more than made up for it! Shaun (sorry if I spelled it wrong, you did tell me but I have middle aged woman brain!), on front of house, was superb! Such a cool guy, with an equally cool vehicle it would appear! Great service, follow your dreams, it was great to meet you! Also I must mention Lawrence the doorman who was so helpful with directions, things to do and also “chat”, gotta love a chatterbox. Thank you sir, sorry we didn’t get chance to say goodbye the day we left. The room was amazing, we had a deluxe suite on the 5th floor I think, corner suite, massive, great facilities and a most comfortable bed! Great location to walk anywhere. It’s beautifully decorated, spotless & boutique. Great breakfast! Would highly recommend! Thanks guys x

We had an exceptional stay at this hotel and will definitely be back. The rooms are absolutely beautiful and spacious, the speakeasy is so much fun and the food is great. Harold and Byron helped me with an issue with professionalism and ease. In a city with many fine hotels, this is one of the very best.

Fantastic from check in to check out. The staff are wonderful, helpful and friendly. The little touches of cheese and wine, ice tea station, board games and cookies make this feel like a truly boutique and independent hotel that puts customers first. Decor is beautiful, bedrooms I cannot fault - they even provide cute little chocolates at night. Highly recommend staying here! It’s a real treat.
