The Alder is not a glamorous hotel, but it offers an outstanding value and its Uptown location is perfect if you have a student at Tulane or Loyola. The hotel is quiet, very clean, safe, and the desk clerks are always helpful. And it offers the rare amenity of free parking. I wish they would reinstate the free breakfast. I have stayed here many times and plan to do so in the future. Highly recommended.

My husband and I have stayed at a number of places in New Orleans to visit family, and this is now our favorite because:
Rooms are spacious, nice and clean
Everyone who works there has a great attitude and provides wonderful service
Location is very convenient to great dining, Audubon Park, awesome MoJo coffee house
FREE PARKING (most hotels charge $50-$60 a night for parking in New Orleans)
Access to nearby fitness center
Very reasonably priced
We have stayed at more expensive places and even some B&Bs, but this is by far the most comfortable, convenient and happiest experience. Special thanks to the managers and front desk staff, who always greet you with a smile.
Highly recommend!

If this place was in the Quarter, it would easily be double the price. Parking is free and is monitored by security and a hospital is next door. The hotel has a cute retro vibe and the room was clean. The staff were friendly and we felt very comfortable staying here with our toddler. The location is great, it’s two streets up from Freret St where there are multiple restaurants, and there are bus stops nearby and everything is within a 15 minute drive. The room had a mini fridge, microwave, and real dishes and metal utensils, plenty of towels and little toiletries. The convenience area in the lobby was small and expensive, but that’s why it’s convenient I guess (however they always have coffee going at the coffee station)! There’s a Walgreens and CVS nearby, along with a grocery mart if you need anything! Bonus: next to the parking lot there are wild chickens. My toddler loved watching them run around.

I need to spend the night in New Orleans and wanted a nice hotel under $100. The Alder came up an I booked it at $89 plus taxes and fees. It was close to the interstate and near my destination for the next day. This hotel is next to a large hospital facility and bars and restaurants are within walking distance.

When I walked into the lobby I greet by a muted modern look and when I walked into my room I was surprised by the clean modern look of the room. The decor is very muted but very nice and very comfortable without feeling worn. My room had a small balcony which was nice. The room has a mini fridge, microwave and a coffee maker. There is also a continental breakfast which was ok. If this location works for you it's a great place for the money.

We stayed two nights at the Alder. This hotel is impressive from the front door to the room. Contemporary, sleek and clean. We enjoyed the balcony and were able to keep the slider open with the warm weather. The kitchenette was a plus so we had real dishes and utensils to use for take out food. Breakfast was more than adequate with waffles, yogurt, cereal, fruit, hard boiled eggs and coffee. Location was convenient to St. Charles street car line, less than one mile away (St. Charles and Napoleon). (There was street parking on St. Charles). The hotel parking lot across the street was free. We used Lyft several times to get to the French Quarter (~5 miles) which worked out gr8. The rate was very reasonable for this gem!!! Would stay here again!!!

Very nice. Great location to where we needed to be. Easy to find and parking lot as cross street. Breakfast could've consisted of eggs, which wouldi made it a great breakfast. Checking was easy. They need to go over the pet policy before you reserve. We were given the policy after arrival, which stated the dogs could've be left in the rooms alone at any time. Not sure who would want to stay in hotel and get stuck inside the room the entire time becasue they brought a dog which was not only approved but charged $65 for.

Thank you for your recent stay. We are a pet-friendly New Orleans hotel. At The Alder Hotel, we welcome dogs and cats. Pets must be attended by owners at all times, never left unattended in rooms. $65 one-time fee will apply per room (non-refundable). Pets must be smaller than 50 pounds – limit 2 pets per guest room. Guests are responsible for damage to furniture, fabrics, carpet, or other items. Breakfast area and Grab-and-Go Market are not available to pets (except service animals). If you are traveling with large dogs or would like supervision for your dog while you sightsee, we recommend Zeus’ Place.

The reviews are all true. This place is FANTASTIC. It may not look like much when you drive through a sketchy part of town from the airport... and then right through the adjacent hospital... and then get out of the car to see a non-descript hotel entrance... but you're rewarded once you walk through the door. Amy at the front desk took her time to get us oriented with the surroundings and how to take advantage of our 1 1/2 days in New Orleans. The room was clean, had ample space with 2 queen beds, and the precautions taken around the hotel and in the room due to COVID were excellent. The location offers access to a variety of great restaurants by foot (Bear Cat Cafe, High Hat Cafe, Superior Seafood), and it's a safe 1 mile walk to the street car on St. Charles. We enjoyed dinner in the Garden District (Little Korea BBQ- highly recommended), with just a $9 Uber. When we checked out to head to the airport, the bellman warmly appreciated the tip (compared to most hotels where a bellman would have fully expected it). If you want to experience the warmth of the locals, and don't mind an Uber or streetcar to the mandatory visit to the French Quarter, this place was a really great way to experience New Orleans with my daughter.

While looking for lodgings in New Orleans near (but not TOO near the French Quarter), I came upon The Alder Hotel and found good-sized rooms, nicely prices, breakfast-included, near the French Quarter, within the Ochsner Baptist Medical Center neighborhood (i.e., safe), within walking distance to restaurants.
The architectural design look reminded me of my stays in Europe's Swiss Mövenpick Hotels. When I checked in December 20, 2019, I discovered the similarities were striking.
Staff (attentive and kind), rooms (generous and cleanly designed), amenities (generous, useful and usable).
When I return to New Orleans, my first look for accommodations will be the Alder Hotel

If you want to stay in the action center of the French Quarter (but do you really?), the Alder is not for you. It is located in a quieter part of town within walking distance (one block) off Freret Street with its many good restaurants (High Hat, Ancora, Origami). One HUGE feature is that the hotel provides free parking across the street. If you stay in the Quarter or Central Business District, you will be paying $50/day for parking and valet, so this is a big deal. The hotel has sort of a mid-century vibe, the employees are friendly, the place is clean and it's in a safe neighborhood. (A hospital is next door and there are people and security outside 24/7. There is a breakfast buffet every morning (6-10 am). I give the Alder five stars, because it is a great value for the price. It is a comfortable home base in New Orleans.
Note: If you don't have a car, the Alder might not be the best bet, because you're out of the main tourist area with not much public transportation available.

Our first trip to New Orleans and we lucked out with this gem! We would definitely stay here again.  The room is well furnished and spacious. I absolutely adored the furniture in this room, besides looking great it is very functional. Plenty of storage space. We stayed on the 5th floor near the emergency exit stairs and did not hear a sound. The price for this room cannot be beaten and parking is just across a very narrow street in front of the hotel. Parking here is free with your room, while most other hotels in Nola charge for parking. Security for the parking lot is provided as well. The neighborhood is quiet and we felt perfectly safe here. The staff is extremely friendly and efficient. Our room was CLEAN, no dust, no hair!!! Coffee maker, microwave, fridge, digital SAFE, iron, and board, blow dryer!  Beds are very comfy, had a great night's sleep! Pillows are fluffy and plentiful. The cleaning staff has to be some of the best in the profession!

Hi Kirsty, according to Google Maps, it would take 50-minutes (2.5+ miles) to walk to the zoo from our hotel. We would recommend another mode of transportation: streetcar, taxi, or a ride share service. Learn more on getting around our neighborhood on our blog.
