I spent a lot of time on TA searching hotels for my husband’s surprise birthday trip to NOLA. Let me just say that all my research paid off and staying at Place d’Armes was one of our trip highlights. First impressions are everything….PATRICE and ANDREW were who we met first, both friendly and smiling. We arrived on Monday July 18 around 1:30 p.m and were assigned room 215. There was so much we loved about the room…apparently the room had been remodeled recently.
Our room was clean and spacious…we loved the view of the courtyard from our balcony, housekeeping provided clean towels daily, the cooling system was easy to control (loved the added ceiling fan), refrigerator perfect temp, safe and the overall vintage look of our room.

This hotel is about 2 blocks from Cafe du Monde and 1/2 block from Cathedral Square and many other restaurants/shopping on Decatur. It’s also not too far from Bourbon Street (about 2 blocks)…close enough to walk to but far enough away from the noise. The hotel is also a 5-7 minute walk to The French Market. Armstrong Park is about 7-8 minute walk.

The Place d’Armes definitely provided us with some serenity and calm after walking the FQ each day. We enjoyed talking to staff about their beloved city and welcomed all suggestions from them.

Tips: *different room types check the website for what’s best for you
*purchase bottled water to keep in your refrigerator
(we went to Rouse’s market which was a few blocks away on Royal St.)
* don’t forget swimsuits for the outdoor pool
*take the time to learn the history of the hotel
*enjoy the peace of your balcony or courtyard

Let me end with this….it takes a group effort to make a vision come to life. Every employee (housekeeping, maintenance, front desk, parking attendant) that we encountered from July 18-23 added their piece to the make the puzzle complete.
We’re definitely highly satisfied and will return in the future.

We travel to see family in LA frequently and many times we like to take an extra day, stop in NOLA, have a good meal and walk the quarter. We've stayed here several times because we love the old world charm they have retained on the property - courtyards, brick walls, balconies - and the rooms are really nice with the same charm. They offer valet parking (that you can get to your car anytime) and the room comes with a continental breakfast. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

This small hotel was just in the right spot. It was right in the center of the French Quarter but far enough from Bourbon Street to not be noisy.

We were able to walk around the city, come back to hotel and then head out again with no 'down time'. Except for the day of the Sugar Bowl (prices were over 200 dollars that night) the normal price was under 120 dollars and included a continental breakfast.

The staff was very helpful with dining suggestions and even gave us some coupons for various places.

The room was a little older with wooden floors and in our case on the inner courtyard room, a bit of a hike up wooden stairs that were pretty slippery when it rained. But the room was clean and quiet with plenty of towels, plenty of hot water and a room safe - so a pretty good value for the money.

We originally booked on a travel site for Hotel St Marie where I would have received 5 stamps towards my free night, which would have made it 10 and our hotel on our drive home would have been free. Because that hotel didn't open, we were moved to the Place d'Armes and had to book thru them resulting in the loss of my stamps. I was happy to receive a balcony room here as that's what we had at the other Hotel. Our room faced St. Ann Street. The location is very good. We liked the balcony, although it is not peaceful as homeless and drunk people are constantly yelling and traffic is loud. Every morning between the hours of 4:30 and 6 we would be awoken by the extremely loud garbage trucks and street cleaners. Our last morning we wanted to sleep in but had to listen to beeping and loud running trucks doing construction outside. (Be advised everything echoes in a major way in the French Quarter).
The size of our room was also good. Water pressure in the shower, A/C, wi-fi, and most employees all good (one male night desk clerk ignored us every time we said hello, quite rude). Bed was comfortable, towels were soft. No housekeeping. No breakfast or even coffee (in room coffee was horrendous and undrinkable, tasted like burnt popcorn). Unfortunately the room had a very strong mildew/mold smell, and towels never dried. Our clothes we hung up all reeked of mold. The smell actually bothered our breathing at night. The tiny fan in the bathroom did nothing. The room was also filthy! From thick dust, to the carpet that had sticky spots and turned our socks black, as well as visible mold everywhere, a hole in the entryway wall, a broken mirror on the closet door, soiled surfaces, a price sticker on the chair from a former guest, and general grime on everything!! We have stayed at multiple historic properties that were old, yet CLEAN. I wish I could add more pictures as I have tons. Despite the location we will not be back and wish we would have moved hotels after the 1st night. Loved New Orleans, but very upset we spent so much to stay here. This hotel was closed for months this year-would have been a great time to do repairs and a major cleaning. Hopefully they are doing this where we originally booked. A shame.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 teens spent 3 nights in a courtyard room at Place d'Armes in November 2020 and we loved it!! The location can't be beat - it's just steps from Jackson Square, which is the heart of the French Quarter. You can walk to everything in the French Quarter and beyond. We loved being so close to the action. But the best part is that as soon as we returned to the hotel, it was a quiet and peaceful oasis. Our room (#127) was charming, spacious, and beautifully appointed - we loved the exposed brick wall and the huge attached bathroom that had a sink/mirror/closet/fridge/microwave/coffee pot and then a separate toilet/shower room. Lots of space for four of us to easily share. And the best part was the lovely table/chairs just outside our room with a fountain and plants nearby. We ate every meal at this table and it was so cozy and peaceful. The staff were all friendly and welcoming and helpful when we had questions or needed local suggestions. And we loved that the parking is attached to the hotel instead of off-site so it felt safe and we liked knowing we could get our car easily/quickly when we needed it. Overall it was a fantastic stay and we highly recommend it!!

We went for 3 days, I’ve booked the room with king bed and balcony, it was perfect! We went to another hotel for our last stay (1200$ a night) and we regretted it because we found that Place d’Armes was nicer! More personalized approach, smaller and beautiful. The inside garden is really nice, you have a small continental breakfast to start the day. People who wrote bad comment regarding the breakfast clearly don’t know what “continental” means. So you will have coffee, orange jus, muffins, croissant, pastries. Everything to start your day right! For sure if you want a big brunch or breakfast just go to a restaurant. The wifi worked really well! The room is not too small, it’s not big but perfect just to sleep, we even ordered food one night and ate on the balcony. the room view was amazing, and yes it’s really noisy even at the middle of the night, early in the morning but that’s the reason why we wanted a balcony, to see the street and the vibe of New Orleans. I suggest a garden view room if you prefer to be more silent. The staff is amazing and gave us good recommendations about where to go, what we need to visit etc. For sure we are booking with this Hotel when we are coming back. thank you for everything!

Being from the gulf coast I frequent New Orleans on a regular basis and have stayed in many hotels in the French Quarter and Garden District, Palace D’Armes is by far the nicest one. Beautiful rooms that are spacious and clean, very quiet and cozy and if you book a balcony room you can see the profile of St. Louis Cathedral. Only one entrance that you need a key to enter, very safe. Staff is wonderful especially Mark who spent 20 minutes on the phone with me to answer all my questions. Staff really makes you feel like family. The price was the best in the Quarter and the quality of the room really deserves a higher price tag, Nola can be very expensive but this place is the real deal. Will be staying here next time I’m in Nola.

Just stayed here for 5 days. This historic hotel is located at the famous Jackson Square. We had a room with a street balcony which was worth the money. We sat out every day to enjoy the sites and sounds of the Square. The rooms have been remodeled since our last stay. Job well done. Very comfortable bed, large shower with rain and handheld heads. The addition of small refrigerator was a plus. Housekeeping services only available upon request due to Covid but room was set with needed items and lots of towels. Easy to get additional coffee items. The courtyard is lovely and was getting a lot of use. They have a pool that kids/parents seem to really be enjoying. They get extra points for having a pool swing chair, giving access to persons with disabilities to also enjoy this amenity. Now the staff... what a great group of friendly, informative people. We met many of them during our stay. There was always a "hello", "how are you", "have a good day". They were knowledgeable, helpful and engaging to chat with. All in all it was a great stay. If you are looking for a hotel near many things like history, food and music this is a perfect choice.

Perfect middle of French Quarter location. We were booked for a courtyard room and it wasn't ready early so we got upgraded to a junior suite which was very kind of them. We were just early arrivals...they didn't need to do that but it was great to have an extra sitting area. The staff is very friendly. Andrew was very helpful to us in booking a taxi to go back and answer any questions we had. The room itself - our friends had a regular room in which the bathrooms were all new. Our room had an original bathroom - very tight and tiny. Had a bathtub with shower. No drain plug in bath so you couldn't take a bath and the fixtures were rusted. Looked so old. There was also black mold on the ceiling. The only sink was outside the bathroom. If hotels are going to do this, install a hand towel rack....so difficult to keep clean (esp. when there is no housekeeping service unless you request). It's also very loud - with old pipes, you hear the rooms around you early in the morning. Other than that, we had a lovely view over the courtyard on the 2nd floor. I would stay here again but would request a room with a new bathroom. My other suggestion would be to upgrade the toiletries.

I chose this hotel based on its location in the French Quarter and because it’s not a huge hotel chain but rather a mid-size hotel with quaint features. I booked a King suite via booking.com for the 4 nights we would be in New Orleans. Check in was a breeze and it wasn’t until the third day that I realized our room was a King balcony room and not the suite I reserved. I mentioned to Patrice at the front desk that I would like to be moved to the Suite if available and she was able to get a Suite ready for us that afternoon. She called to let me know our suite was ready a couple hours later and was very gracious when I let her know we were a bit far away and wouldn’t be back until around 5 that evening. I can’t say enough nice things about Patrice and the staff in general. They really do everything they can to make sure you have a great stay.
We were very happy with the Suite as it has a lot more room to move about. No balcony but at least we had a room for the first two nights with one! That being said…while the balcony is nice and very French Quarter-ish, because it’s an old building, the noise from outside was never completely muffled. So if you are sensitive to sounds and prefer more quiet, maybe a balcony room isn’t for you. Our King balcony room was 302 and our suite was 308.
The hotel has a lovely courtyard and pool and you have to enter thru the lobby to access the hotel grounds which gives you a feeling of security. The lobby has one computer if you need to use for business and they also sell postcards for .50 which I loved because I always like mailing them postmarked from our travels.
Valet parking is $42 a night with in and out privileges. They didn’t have the complimentary breakfast (due to COVID) but they do offer housekeeping if you want.
This hotel is very close to Jackson Square but also far enough away from Bourbon Street so you aren’t in the middle of the chaos. It was a perfect location for our visit.
I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.

I believe there are some balcony spaces facing the courtyard, all are not private bit may be a shared space. The ground floor courtyards are not private, you may have a table and chairs right outside your room and someone else can use them. We never had a problem finding a place to hang out, it just wasn't always right outside our room, although most of the time we were able to sit in front of/close to our room.
