We enjoyed our stay in the hotel and loved the garden view. I called it "Tropical Paradise". The staff were great and friendly. I would recommend this hotel to our family and friends and will give a rating of perfect 10.

I must say our stay at the Don`a Marta Hotel was the most wonderful and romantic time we have ever had, in a place that is a Tropical Paradise. Very safe, secluded and secure this Hotel, the owers Morris, Roland and their employee's were just Fantastic. Everybody there was exstremely friendly and the 2 restaurants they own that are walking distance from there hotel were also very good!!The breakfast included everymorning at the hotel was in the most romantic setting by the ocean under a gazeebo. Just incredible!!! I would without a doubt, Highly recomend this hotel to everybody!!! All this at a price you will not believe, more than reasonable. DEFINETLY PARADISE!!!!!!

After careful review of all the possible places to stay in the area, DM seemed like the run-away winner with all of these super positive reviews.

Much to our dismay, it just simply didn't measure up.

The rooms were not as big as the pictures make them seem and there are only a few to choose from. The one closest to the beach was small and was filled with tons of mosquitoes (which may have been due to the rainy season but our other choices after DM weren't as bad).

We opted to go with a bigger room, which wasn't that much bigger but had an extra folding couch. (which also had tons of mosquitoes) The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. Would have been ok, if all the rooms didn't seem so moldy and damp. The smell took a while to disappear and we were prepared to tough it out as we were planning on staying two weeks and DM was the only hotel that accepted credit card.

The TV only has one working channel and the room service food (from their restaurant) was pricey and we hardly touched it.

The washrooms were kinda dirty and had cobwebs in the corners as well as holes in the screens in the windows.

The shrubbery in the compound seems over the top to the point that it gets kinda difficult to move around.

The friendly staff that all the reviews seem to rave about were either on holidays themselves, don't work there anymore or just flat out did not like us. But to be fair, there was a gentleman, by the name of Roland (I think) who was accommodating. Everyone else looked as if they were unhappy or being held there against their will. The owner, whom I spoke with when we checked out, was also a nice guy...a foreigner too.

To top everything off, everytime we asked about credit card payment before we left Manila and while we were there, the answer was always yes (as it says all over the internet).

That, unfortunately, wasn't the case. when I had had enough of the shortcomings that DM had, I opted to cut our stay short and check out after two days. When I did, I was informed (rather politely) that credit card would not be an option as it wasn't set up yet because they didn't have a landline.

I don't intend to be mean...I just simply want to help fellow travelers who may be expecting to be able to pay for their stay by credit card and who may have been super impressed by all of the super positive reviews that DM has received. This is a major concern for these parts of the Philippines where ATM's are scarce and people may not have enough cash if they were expecting to card their stay.

We eventually moved on to Las Vegas Beach Resort in Talisay where we will surely return for our future trips to Leyte.

Response from Tahusanon, Owner at Dona Marta Boutique Hotel

Thank you for your review, we always like to hear from our guests even if they are not completely happy with their stay with us. It help us to do better in the future. We are so sorry that your stay with us was fraught with problems regarding the lack of credit card facilities. This is due to the fact that this part of Southern Leyte does not have telephone land lines, therefore no credit card facilities. In our efforts to assist our guests we can process a credit card though our USA affiliates, however we do need to have, at least 12 hours prior to departure the credit card information due to the time difference between the Philippines and the USA. Normally this process is quite simple, however in this case due to your sudden departure there was insufficient time to contact our affiliate and process your card. We do apologize for that. The really bad weather which brought floods and landslides to this area made it very difficult to communicate with you and for this we are deeply sorry. We would like to compensate you and your family for this disappointment by offering you and your family a complimentary dinner at our Rositas Native Restaurant the next time you visit our area

I am an American, my bride is Filipina

Over all experience of our three night stay was very good. Well worth the price ! ( bring cash ! no Atm or bank for hours drive).
Hotel rooms in great shape, staff very very good.
Food from the adjacent restaurant very good, same owner as hotel.

We arrived after a storm, but our weather there was great. Our beach front was cleaned while adjacent beaches remained messy from the storm.
If your viewing Venere.com about this hotel you will experience some inacuracies. While we were there the sand was not white and the surf was not crystal clear blue. Maybe the storm was a factor? There is'nt an outdoor pool but they have a seawater hydro massage Jacuzzi. better to call the hotel directly for new improvements. They were very, very nice people.

We could see white sand beaches on the adjacent island, the hotel can take you there for extra fee.
Safety: As anal american, I felt safe there, the neighbors are british, american, australian, german and filipinos.

If you truly want to think about your safety consider your method of travel, you can request for a van with seatbelts but most jeepneys/buses and vans don't. the roads are well paved but the route is through the mountainside with very steep ravines...exciting but scary at the same time. The 2.5 hour-ride back felt much safer because we were in a fullsize bus. Maybe because the driver was slower and it wasn't raining in the mountain section.

I must tell you about the woman grooming her daughter for lice. Fortunately her son was between us. If any if this rattles you, consider getting a van. no cabbies there.

We might go back next year and defititely visit st.paul's island!

We spent 8 nights at Dona Marta in June 2012 and we could not have been happier with our visit. The room was absolutely spotless. Beds were nice and comfortable with good back support. Our beach front cottage was very close to the beach where we could hear the waves breaking on the shore. The beach is great, mostly had it to ourselves. The floor of the water is smooth sand with no junk to step on. The gardens are beautifully manicured and very tastefully done. The breakfast, served in a gazebo in the garden close to the beach was really a nice touch! Breakfast was good and Ray could not have been more accommodating. Fresh fruit was served every morning with breakfast. Watermelon, mango, etc. The restaurant just a nice walk down the lane named Rositas' was really great food and very nice people serving us. Unbelieveable large menu and the food is great! Try the grilled mahi mahi! Very cheap prices and high quality food all served by a very cordial Filipina guy. As everyone knows, the staff can make or break your stay. The guys here could not have been nicer people. They went out of their way to please us in every way. Ray, Rolando and the owner Maurice and others are the best! They arranged for our transportation and just made our stay more enjoyable with their friendliness. The one negative review posted here I take with a grain of salt, as some people cannot be pleased, obviously! If you are looking for a safe.peaceful, romantic getaway with your honey....go there! Also, the price is very cheap for what they offer. We hated to leave as i am sure you will too!

A real gem, a small boutique hotel offering a very personalised service. Situated right on a broad sandy beach, ideal for swimming, beach activities, and long walks. The nearby "native" restaurant, which is under the same management, serves superb food, in fact some of the finest we have tasted in the Philippines. The fish is always fresh, the vegetables grown locally, and the menu surprisingly comprehensive for such a relatively small place.

After I read the honest reviews from this page, I decided to reserve a room by calling the owner who was extremely kind and helpful.
What a time it was indeed! The first-rate staff, beautiful rooms with ample space, the superb garden, pool and the fact the beach is only 10 yards away make this place an abolute must when vacationing in Philippines.

you can work quietly on your tan while relaxing to the sound of the waves, the restaurant who delivers food for the hotel is only a few yards away and has an excellent menu.

While I was there the owner even let me use his motorcycle to run errands dowtown hinunangan, I just kept the tank full.

I strongly suggest anyone planning for a great vacation time to consider this hotel first, highly recommended for quality and value.

The DM Hotel was the first place we stayed on the Philippines. The Courtyard was like a botanic garden, the staff was always beeing made us the stay like in a family. The beach was clean and right for long walks. The nearby "one and only" restaurant Rositas served delicious food as traditional philippines taste and seafood, too. Their seafood casserole I can warmest suggest to everybody.
Only the rooms let you feel there is a woman`s hand missing, but big enough for a stay and
the beach front rooms had a small private terrasse, too.Only the noise of the aircondition made the sleep noisy. Breakfast was very nice, specially served in the morning in the wonderful yard with a bright look to the sea.
It is worth to go there if you like to relax, have charming personal service away from traffic and noise.

Hello Dave. We do not have a specific airport transfer service to the hotel, however we can make arrangements for you to be picked up and transported here. There is a charge for this service. We sometimes need to be in Tacloban and could co-ordinate with your arrival. We would need the details of your flight i.e. airline information, arrival time etc. There are also several For Hire services at the airport should you wish to negotiate upon your arrival. The trip would be approximately two and one half hours duration and is quite scenic, therefore enjoyable. I hope that this information has been useful to you. Rolando
