This place is just awesome . It's traanquility and serene enviroonment makes us so connected with nature and fills us with positive vibes and happiness . In addition to that it also provides us with homely food and hospitality . It's all worth your money...!!
I stayed on 2nd Jan 2017 with my wife and three daughters and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Everything as promised in the website was delivered and more. I read all the great reviews and finally a vey recent different review made us think twice. But we went ahead on the basis of all the positive reviews and had a whale of a time.
It is hard to believe this luxury resort is in operation for two years because everything looks so new and no spots and scratches and not a speck of dust either. The owners bungalow is adjacent and they personally take it on them selves to ensure that the whole property remains spotless new. The linen, mats, sofas, walls, bathrooms, door handles, steps curtains are so fresh and clean.
The food was authentic kerala cusuine and as promised. I believe in Rome do as the Romans do. It has been a long time since I had all items in excellent taste without even one item spoiling the taste. As we had to leave in the afternoon we did not get time to personally thank the super chef who does all the cooking in the adjacent owners bungalow. Many times in other resorts and hotels the aroma and fumes from the kitchen destroy our appetitie much before the actual meal. But here we enjoyed hot meals served by Arun . He is a gentle caring person and is hugely responsible for the neatness of the property and is always keeping a watchful eye and appears anticipating any of our requirements eagerly always being careful to remain out of our sights for our privacy. He talks Hindi and Malayalam and maybe English too. He was a delight for my three teen age daughters as he helped them do fishing at the property. I like staff at hotels the way Arun is ..humble, polite, not overly enthusiastic for the sole reason of impressing but actually doing more than that in a non intrusive manner . Bravo Arun keep it going and my daughters have already returned back from school today after sharing the great fishing stories with their friends.
Each room has a personal balcony where one has either a backwater view (the water is less than five meters from the room). The other side has rooms of the famous kuttanad green paddy fields. We had taken two rooms (one with a paddy field view and the other a backwater view) will post photos of both the views from room. Rooms are huge and beds are cosy and with crisp white linen. Each room has AC and TV with hot water in bathrooms. I could not believe the shower curtains and bathroom walls were so neat. I did not find time to see TV but they are there. Backwater view rooms are big and the paddy field view rooms are even bigger.
The Manager Mr Anoj is a very enthuastic allrounder and is also the owners brother. He ensures total satisfaction from the point of contact. He took us on the speed boat cruise and gave the wheel to each of us for the whole time while he was watchfully near at hand. The speedboat is also new and neat with a powerful motor which zooms and kids enjoyed it thoroughly. Three persons at a time so after the second trip he took the kids on an extra trip also seeing the eagerness of the younger one. He even brought three cushions from the bungalow for my daughter to sit on to raise her height in the boat. We took the speedboat trip in the morning hours and we felt it was excellent during that time. There is also a retractable canopy if required for people who prefer not to enjoy the sun and rains.
We also had a motor boat cruise on a bigger boat with two decks the lower deck has seating but we enjoyed the top deck which was open and gave a continuous 360 degree views and sky with the cool breeze. We started after a small rest after lunch and timed it for the three hours cruise to be back by 6 pm as per government regulations. This timing of being back by latest 6pm to 6:30 pm should be always meticulously planned as if we start at even 4 or 4:30pm then also no boat can operate after 6:30pm so we will lose out of the fun. So start around 3 to 30 pm so that you get full entertainment. Huge fines as after 6:30 pm as fishermen take over the backwaters and lay their nets all over and any damage to their net can cause huge damage to propeller and to their nets and livelihood. So govt ensures strict implementation of this rule, so no point requesting boatman to stay a little longer after 6:30 pm. I realized and observed after 6:30pm how not a single boat was operating and how all the fishermen tookover as if waiting for 6:30pm. I had a half mind to request Mr Anoj to extend the cruise a bit longer but refrained from it. I sat in the balcony of the room enjoying the evening later and also just to check if what he was saying about nets etc was true and yes it was. The fishermen and boats come very close to the balcony and we had a close up view of them laying nets and catching fish from the balcony. It is mostly one person with a headlamp on a canoe. Later after dinner we just chatted with them as it was only a couple of meters away.
There is huge parking space and also a conference room on top floor for big parties too. The Church is a 2 min walk away on the banks of the backwater so we got up early and had a chance to attend the mass too. On the way back walked through the paddy fields. We even took a small country boat ride back and forth to the other side just for the experience. As we had already taken houseboat rides earlier and kids were not keen on slow boats, we did not opt for it. The faster options suited us and I would recommend a houseboat which is also available for people who prefer them. We did not go to the beach too nearby but can be an exciting option for those who are keen.
Cuisine is all authentic Kerala kuttanad cuisine and I still regret having not being able to meet the chef before leaving. Hats off to you Chef. Mr Anoj Thanks for surprising us with a cute 18th Birthday cake for my daughter. Owners wife Mrs Sherley and her brother Mr Anoj are genuine Kuttanad people. They have maintained their property in the best way. Hospitality comes from their heart. I hate the artificial smiles and wishes which is normally seen in resorts where staff are employed. My younger one simply could not believe that Arun was working here as she says Sherley and Anoj treat Arun like a family member with so much love and care.
Will cherish fond memories and surely return back for backwater holiday here. In the meantime will have no hesitation in recommending Captain Cabin for Kerala Backwater holidays.
May Almighty God bless you all and Captains Cabin.
Captain's Cabin is in a great location for exploring. Just outside are two ferry crossings - one in a wooden canoe with a man paddling and the other a small boat with an outboard. The crossing only takes a few minutes. They organise whatever you need and nothing is too much bother. I too run a tourism business of six rooms so I'm impressed by the management. Guest experience is not just about the bedroom, it's about everything else that makes a holiday special and this family understand that.
We ate in for a few meals. I'm happy with the Indian breakfast but my family went Western. Just to say, Western food is not what they do - and nor should they start! The meals are fine, at a communal dining table. But they also do room service! And there's the upstairs communal area as well. This is a great hotel for families, especially with young children. It's all very modern.
A Romantiv view in the evening and night. Easy to reach to the main road but away from its noice.... great village experince with fresh fish
