Detailed Reviews

We booked this as a bargain and didn't expect much - but we were pleasantly surprised. The room (including bathroom) was modern and felt brand new, including the flooring, tv, everything. It was SO CLEAN! Our room was on the first floor, just off the lobby and we were skeptical - we expected it to be noisy from street level noise and the lobby. It was quite quiet - we never heard traffic as our window overlooked a courtyard and there was simply no noise from the lobby either. Imagine being in NYC on the ground floor and never even hearing a siren! The WiFi was easy to log onto and worked great. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Shampoo/conditioner/body wash/hand wash/lotion were all abundant and decent. Bath towels a good size. Two pillows were provided for each guest - one labled soft and one firm. Decent quality too! Limited options for snacks available in the lobby - a little expensive but you didn't have to walk to the store. Microwave and coffee pot and mini fridge in the room! We didn't use these but could see them being real pluses on a future stay. So easy to find the place from the F train! That said, the neighborhood isn't the best one - every single apartment had bars on the windows, and it didn't feel like it would be the best place to walk late at night. So, we took a LYFT home after midnight, no problem and even with that added expense this room was a bargain! We definitely look forward to staying here again.

Hotel's Favorite
We stayed at this hotel for a quick trip into NYC. The staff was fairly friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean. The breakfast was OK. The cinnamon rolls were nice. My son liked the pancake machine but when he went back for a second serving the machine broke. The eggs seemed weird. The location being close to the subway was very useful for getting in and out of the NYC. It only took a few minutes longer than if we were staying in Manhattan. The cost was significantly less than staying at a similar hotel in Manhattan. The room was very small. They advertised free parking but by that they mean street parking, so we opted for the garage right next door. The staff there was super friendly.

Hello Krispe! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your stay with us here at the Holiday Inn Express Sunset Park! Thank you for mentioning our staff and cleanliness and we are sorry you had some trouble with the Pancake Machine. Sometimes when pancakes are in high demand, the machine might get overworked and shut down for a bit but we generally get it back and running quickly. We hope to serve you again in the future!

Overall we had a decent experience!! We arrived several hours early and Linda, our Concierge, was wonderfully accommodating!! She definitely deserves ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and I'm grateful because we were tired and needed a bathroom. The room was very clean and comfortable, no complaints at all and housekeeping was sooooo kind and courteous (I left her a tip and a note, I hope she got it). Please remember to treat people with kindness, it goes a longgggg way in reciprocation. There was a woman staying immediately to our left who began berating the housekeeper on our floor. She was yelling at her saying "Don't you speak english? Don't you speak english? Don't you speak english?" and the woman looked upset as she was trying to answer in broken english. I looked at the woman and told her to just call the front desk with any concerns because obviously the lady does not speak english and yelling at her is accomplishing nothing! If management reads this and you received a complaint about the housekeeper for the second floor on the 1st weekend in February, she did NOTHING wrong!
Two gripes...
#1 is breakfast, I understand only serving turkey sausage and turkey bacon..... however, can we make it tasty and not dried out or overcooked? A lil steam would help that! Before you ask yep I was there right at six thirty Friday morning and 7am on Saturday and Sunday!! 🤣💚👍🏾
#2 is the parking garage next door. The check out time for the hotel should coincide with the parking if you are staying at the adjacent hotel. We checked out on Sunday from your hotel at 11am and went to pick up my vehicle immediately; they wanted to charge me for an entire day because check out time for them was 6:45am. My question is, why would I pick up my vehicle 4 hours before hotel checkout unless I'm leaving that early. I negotiated a price, however, it was a very annoying way to end a pleasant mini vacation.
Linda, thanks again for such an easy early check-in, see you again in a few months!!💚

Wow! Thank you nicoliam2025 for your detailed and honest review. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay with us and that Linda took such excellent care of you. Breakfast we are always looking for ways to improve our breakfast so your suggestions are vital in that process so we certainly appreciate it. The parking unfortunately is out of our control however I personally will make sure that we pass on your comments to the garage in the hopes of improving this process for yourself and all future guests.

the place is relatively clean, BUT, the service from staff is non-existent. Had to constantly ask for things like towels, toilet paper, coffee for coffee maker, continually told we'll take care of it, yet nothing happens. Witnessed other hotel guests going through the same baloney. Staff needs to be sufficient in size to deal with the most simple and basic of guest requests. If I ask for towels and there are two of us staying the room, bring up two sets of clean towels...do not ignore me while telling me you'll take care of it, and then after repeatedly hounding I get one set...the bar needs to be considerably higher here. This is not an EcoLodge, or Motel 6, so don't act like it is.

Hello Jrusso9999, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about our property. We are sorry that you encountered some difficulty in obtaining requested items. As you stated, this is not something we want any of our guests to go through and I assure you that our bar is set much higher than this. We will be conducting an internal investigation to see what exactly went wrong here during your stay. We take all concerns very seriously as we want our guests to feel comfortable and valued and it is saddening to hear that we fell short of that goal with you. I would love to hear more about your stay if possible and would love to invite you back so that you may experience a stay more indicative of our standards. Please feel free to reach out to the property directly

Disappointed with this hotel tbh especially for the price. The staff were lovely and the bed and linen nice too. The bathroom fittings were rickety for saying it’s a new hotel and the room smelt odd as did the whole corrider. No water in the room despite there being a fridge which was disappointing and no “proper” spoons. However the worst part was breakfast. They claim it’s complimentary but is obviously factored into the price. I would rather take that off the cost and I would pay for something decent. Cardboard plates, plastic knives and forks. Restriction on bacon, egg patties made from liquid egg, hard croissants. Pancakes were the best part. won’t return.

Perfect stay! Linda was awesome and very welcoming to us. We got to the hotel earlier 10am to drop luggage, because of our flight was very early- check-in starts at 3pm. Linda gave us breakfast for free on that morning, which saved us money and time. Our first day in NY was raining so we stayed by the hotel, she had our room ready at 12pm and let us check-in earlier without charging more. Breakfast is American style, it is simple but solid (scrambled eggs, fried eggs, pork sausage, turkey patties, muffins, bagels, bread, fruits, juice, pancakes). The room was clean and we didn’t have any problems.

To state the obvious: Sunset Park, Brooklyn is not Park Avenue, nor is it Brownstone Brooklyn, with its charming streetscapes. The immediate neighbors include an auto body shop, a warehouse and a poultry market. BUT, don't let that put you off. Walk a few short blocks to the south and west and you're in a vibrant, multiethnic area with some of the city's better Mexican and Asian restaurants and shops (I live in Brooklyn and would know).
The nearby park affords views of the harbor and the skyline, and is great for your morning jog. Most importantly, the express D train stop is a block away, which takes you to downtown Brooklyn in 15-20 minutes.
The hotel is modern and well-designed. The rooms were nothing fancy but everything worked well and the bed was comfortable enough. The breakfast punches above its weight, with a generous mix of hot and cold items (a little more fruit would be welcome).
Modest drawbacks: The subway rail yard is behind the hotel and the rumble of trains is fairly constant, though quite muted (and was never disruptive of my sleep). Also, Holiday Inn has an app but its utility is limited; you must still check in at the front desk and get a room key card.
In all, a welcoming, modern and affordable spot for all kinds of travelers.

This hotel was ideal in location for our recent trip to Brooklyn. The hotel delivered on the HIX brand promises. We did have an issue with checking in. For some reason, the reservation which appeared on my app with a confirmation number and for which I had an accompanying email didn't show up in their system. Destiny, the front desk agent, took exceptional efforts to ensure that we were minimally inconvenienced -- even checking us in while still trying to resolve the issue.
It makes a difference when the folks working at the hotel advocate on behalf of guests and members. Destiny -- your assistance helped deliver a truly magical trip!

The hotel room was fine and clean. Other than that we were absolutely unimpressed. The reception staff were almost rude, certainly indifferent. The only friendly faces we met were the cleaning staff. The breakfast buffet was totally bad. The assortment was poor and every single item was microwaved from frozen or prepackaged and precooked. The location is convenient in terms of public transport but otherwise the area is not interesting or convenient in any other way. All in all, the price we paid did not meet the quality this hotel provided.
