Detailed Reviews
The hotel is located next to the Subway so it’s easy to get to Manhattan pretty quickly.
The rooms were small but well decorated and in good condition.
Within walking distance you have a few grocery/ convenience stores and a small selection of takeaways/ restaurants.
The price of the hotel for this location was pretty good and it would be one of the main reason for my rating!

We were two couples visiting NYC on a city break for my friends 50th. We couldn't get anything uptown and stayed here as it was a good link on the metro.
The room had 2 queen beds, with a full bathroom with a bath tub. The size of the room with the 2 beds is a little cramped, but not too disimilar to other city hotel rooms.
We were out of season and didn't have any issues with the breakfast room. Breakfast was surprisingly good and adequate. There were cereals, toast, bacon and scrambled eggs. The eggs were realluy good. The coffee was ok too.

Clean beautiful rooms. They are a bit small but functional. Staff was very nice and helpful. We were on the bottom floor but did not hear any noise. Subway is right outside the hotel as well a a Dunkin’ Donuts and 24 hour market. Parking right on site. We felt safe and secure. We will stay here again if the need arises.

Customer service is way less than stellar. Act like you are bothering them. Hotel is being renovated and only thing available is bottom 1 st floor. You have to go up to 10th floor to get ice. Smelled like cigarettes. Breakfast was bad. Eggs..cold and hard. Half cooked potatoes. Very sparse pickings.

Don’t be fooled out of town tourists. This hotel is being used by the City of New York as a homeless shelter. Homeless loiter outside and the room contained a price list for any missing items (clearly inflated). My husband observed a homeless gentleman taking advantage of the free breakfast.

I want to add an emphatic & strong positive recommendation for this hotel. My wife & I spent a long weekend in NYC at the Best Western Plus in Brooklyn after reading the many other positive reviews. We weren't disappointed in ANY way - the front desk staff was friendly & efficient, the fresh breakfast each morning got our long tourist days in NYC off to a great start, the location right on the MTA "R" subway line can't be beat, and we loved the immaculate, stylish, and renovated room we stayed in on the 8th floor.
It really surprises me when anyone writes that the rooms are small. Maybe it's when a room is configured with two queen beds and the customer is, um, a tad large themselves. My wife and I found our king-bed room to be a good size. PLENTY of storage, too, and a nice writing desk with two open power outlets at the base of the lamp.
The only minor, "first-world problem" issues we found:
* Wifi reception in the room was strong, although bandwidth seemed a little low at peak hours in the evenings
* It's true the seating in the breakfast area (even considering the expansion room around the corner) is a little tight, but you can always enjoy your breakfast in the room. Any inconvenience is MORE than made up for the cleanliness and freshness of the breakfast, and the fact we never saw the hotel run out of any of the breakfast items.
So, in summary, we enjoyed...
* GREAT location convenient to the NYC subway system. Get yourself a 7-day all-you-can-ride MetroCard for $30 and use the heck out of it!
* IMMACULATE rooms. No blankets that go unwashed between guests - the blanket is sheeted above & below. I really like the smaller (but still plump) pillows because the housekeeping staff can tightly fold the pillowcases so you don't worry about contact with the pillows during the night.
* Renovated rooms in a modern clean uncluttered style in soothing beige, brown, burgundy tones.
* FRIENDLY and EFFICIENT staff.
* Fresh hot & cold breakfast, not just continental-style: Scrambled eggs, bacon and/or sausage, waffle maker plus syrup, toast, bagels with cream cheese, sweet rolls (danish), milk, juice, coffee from an "on-demand" style machine, yogurt, fruit
* GREAT VALUE for all of this in NYC
NOTES ABOUT THE SUBWAY :
For anyone looking forward to using the great MTA subway system this summer (2014), don't worry if you read that the service on the R line is still affected by Hurricane Sandy restoration through October 2014. It's true that the R line doesn't go straight into Manhattan under the East River tunnel on the weekdays, but the transfer to other Manhattan-bound trains a few stops north of the hotel is very easy. Google directions will guide you through it perfectly, and it even understands the different way the trains work on weekdays, late nights, and weekends.
You'll be about 30 minutes into lower manhattan, and maybe another 10-15 minutes up to the south end of Central Park (e.g. 59th st at 5th ave). The R train 25th St station is on the SAME BLOCK as the hotel - right across 4th Ave when you're heading north in the morning, and practically at the edge of the hotel parking lot when you're coming "home" in the evening or at night. We considered Aloft and Hotel Le Bleu also in Brooklyn, but were concerned about the slightly longer walking distance to/from the subway at those locations especially when returning later at night.
If you're heading to JFK airport when you leave the hotel, do plan on about 1.5 hours of travel time before you're standing in the TSA checkin line at the airport. Basically you take the R to the A to the AirTrain system around the airport. There will be about a 10 minute wait at each of the two transfers. We left just after 630am and got to the airport shortly after 8am for a 930am flight. Clearing security on a weekday morning only took about 15 minutes.

As a Brooklyn native who lived in the Park Slope area when I was born, I was looking forward to staying in my hometown when I came back from California on both business and a mini-vacation. First, a brief disclaimer. A prior review described the surrounding neighborhood as "questionable". Though it may appear that way on the surface, the truth is that it's not questionable, it's Old New York. If you look at the local people on the street, it's a diverse mix of all ages and backgrounds, and many families and kids. Take a stroll up any of the numbered streets (24th, 25th, 26th, etc) toward 5th Avenue and you'll see gorgeous apartment buildings and homes with quiet surroundings. So don't let what the eye first captures dissuade you; this is a fine neighborhood to stay in. As with any part of the city, you should be cautious and street smart at all times, especially at night. But one of the pluses of this hotel is that the subway from Manhattan is just a few steps from the hotel entrance. And to head out in the opposite direction, just walk across the street.
Other positives for my wife and I were the small market next door, the Dunkin' Donuts across the street, free continental breakfast starting at 6:30 a.m., and the free (and fast) wi-fi in our room. But unfortunately, the staff dropped the ball repeatedly when it came to good service.
First, we booked a queen bed room through Travelocity and ended up in a room with only one double bed, not a comfortable option for two people. So we were switched during the evening to a room with two doubles. Then the next day, we had to switch AGAIN to the queen room we should have had in the first place. Somewhere during this rapid room shuffle, a jacket of mine was left in the wardrobe of one of the rooms. I asked the manager if housekeeping located it, he said no. We looked in the previous rooms, and it was gone for good. It indicated that housekeeping may have not even bothered to check the wardrobe when the room was cleaned. Further, the queen room we were put in was not replenished with new towels. So on these two points, the lack of thoroughness on housekeeping's part was very disappointing.
I also sensed a "we don't care" kind of attitude from some of the staff. They acted as if they were being bothered and inconvenienced by simple requests that didn't require any extended efforts. This will unfortunately prevent the hotel from becoming an above average option for travelers to NYC.
Based on the service lapses from the staff, this won't be a place that I will stay at again or recommend to others. It's a new hotel though, so opportunites still remain for it to put more energy and focus into providing quality service to guests. That said, a very marginal three stars is what the Best Western Plus Prospect Park Hotel earns.

My husband and I both enjoyed our stay at this hotel and will most likely stay here again in the future. We had a family gathering at a restaurant in Brooklyn to attend on Saturday night and wanted a place to stay nearby that was reasonably priced. We checked in with ease, the concierge was very friendly and informed us that the continental breakfast was included in our room rental as was the parking in the garage underneath the hotel. .
The room was clean, neat and nicely decorated. It was a little snug with the two full size beds but comfortable enough. My husband loved the large plasma t.v., and I loved that their was not two, but four pillows on each bed. And the beds were so comfortable, we both enjoyed a wonderful night sleep. The shower pressure was great too. We highly recommend this hotel.

We tried to find a reasonable, nice hotel in Manhattan but failed. Fortunately, we discovered this hotel at a good price moments before committing to another hotel. We had read good reviews about the place and we were not disappointed. In fact, it exceeded our expectations overall.
The manager told me that the hotel was less than a year old. I had asked him since everything looked so new. The room was very clean, and the bed was perfect. All the plumbing, electrical, and air conditioning worked without a flaw.
The 25th street subway station is only a few yards from the front door, so getting into Manhattan was simple and quick. The station has two entrances. You must cross the street to enter if going to Manhattan. The entrance next to the hotel door will take you south, further into Brooklyn where you can transfer to another line for Coney Island and Brighton Beach.
The staff is friendly and efficient. Internet (wired and wireless) was fine.
The breakfast (included) was good but unimaginative -- coffee, tea, juice, boiled eggs, toast, bagels, pastries, fruit, and cereal.
We would definitely stay there again and have already recommended it to friends.

We were here last night. Very clean, no bugs inside or outside.
Sorry, never heard of it.
You know, there probably are but we never use them so I'm not 100% sure. We used one once in Mexico and it didn't work, we had to get staff to open it.
What is the best way to get from jfk to the hotel? How much will a taxi cost? How long does it take?
Best option is Uber/Lyft. Will cost between $50-70, depending on the time you're travelling. Cater for at least 45 mins travel time. Yellow cab from JFK would cost a little more.

We booked a car with Carmel. It was about $50. But it paid online, no hidden costs other than a tip. They sent us a text to tell us what car to look for. It was safe and reliable.
