Choice Hotels promotes the Ascend Hotel Collection as "historic, boutique and one of a kind". The L Hotel is in no way a “boutique”. Though not built that long ago, it is getting run down and has small rooms and limited facilities. It does have its advantages: comfotable beds, convenient location, reasonable prices for NYC, and free parking. But it has embassingly bad breakfasts that often run out of bagels and bread, leaving you to choose from bad muffins or limited cereal options. It feels like the operators are consciously underinvesting to take the most that they can out of the business. It's tolerable, but set your expectations before arriving.

Hotel's Favorite
We traveled all night and were able to get in a little before the normal check in time. We also had formal plans the following day that required us to check out late. The hotel allowed us to check out late however there was a fee. I felt the fee was fair for us to be able to get comfortably ready for the event we had planned. The staff was available 24/7 and very accommodating. The room had a nice view and was clean. The hotel also offered free first come first server parking. This was also a plus.

This was a great place to stay! The room was clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable, and there were breakfast items available in the morning. The desk persons were friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a good experience!

The hotel was purchased by Choice and they did basic remodeling and stuck their Ascend flag on it. I stay at a lot of their Ascend Collection hotels and this one is on a Quality Inn level 2 stat hotel. The area is very sketchy and not safe at dark. The rooms are the smallest I have ever stayed in, the bed you and suitcase are about all you can fit. There are only 8 parking spots available and the street parking is not available as their are car repairs business surrounding the hotel ,so if you do not get one of the 8 spots you have to park several blocks away which is not safe.

Needed a hotel for an overnight stay in that part of Brooklyn for myself and a colleague. Hotel was more than satisfactory though room was pretty small! Breakfast was spartan could easily be improved upon with some whole wheat items (bread, cereal) and some yogurts. Want to thank Wallace at the front desk who was particularly helpful!!! Pretty convenient also to subway lines about 10 minutes away.

We stayed here the weekend after Thanksgiving. Checking I was simple and quick and we were given a room on the top floor which had a view if Brooklyn and Manhattan skyline. Room was clean an comfortable. It was quiet and whenever we needed anything the staff was very accommodating. Parking uis limited but we were lucky enough to get a spot for the 4 nights we were there. There are two subway stops within a 5 minute walk and they have trains which take you into Manhattan fairly quickly. Given the prices of Manhattan hotels this is a great option. The neighbourhood is safe and we had no issues returning late at night to the hotel. The free breakfast is nothing special. There is a great breakfast place right around the corner and you can have a great breakfast forva decent price. Definitely stay here again as I refuse to pay Manhattan prices for a place to sleep.

New, good quality hotel, with nice rooms, comfortable bed (except for annoying plastic mattress protector), great shower, and fridge and coffee maker in room. Great views of Manhattan and Brooklyn from high rooms on back of hotel - opposite the lobby on street side. Some limited parking, that’s a plus, especially on weekdays, not so important on weekends. Very limited and underwhelming breakfast – only white bread and low quality muffins and bagels and dry cereal plus oatmeal. No wheat bread, yogurt, or fruit. Not even real orange juice but an orange flavored drink. They need to upgrade breakfast.

I lost a bag with jewelry. I contacted the hotel over the phone and sent them multiple emails. THERE IS NO answer. My nephew who lives in NY visited them in person. The lady at the reception told him that they were VERY busy and promised to get back to him and me. It was about ten days ago. I again emailed them. NO answer.

Booked as a stop off after landing from JFK as we was then travelling south to New Jersey the following day. Area is rough, I wouldn’t be alone outside after dark for sure. The hotel as very limited and tight parking, approx 6-8 spaces at rear of building however if you park over the weekend you can outside the building without risk of being slapped a ticket. The receipt was a bit musty smelling, as was majority of the hotel. The rooms were ok, decent size for what we needed. Small double bed, A/C, TV. Bathroom is also ok, decent size shower etc. Great for a brief layover, nothing long term or a short break I wouldn’t recommend.

We just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel and found it to be of great value. Our room was smaller than the pictures relayed but it was clean, comfortable and local to what we needed. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. We needed extra towels and cups and that was no issue. They delivered those promptly as well as extra coffee! The air conditioning in our room wasn't cool enough and they adjusted that promptly as well. The complimentary breakfast was a nice benefit. We had a microwave and a small fridge in our room which was very helpful! We wouldn't hesitate to return to this hotel again!! There is a most delicious pizza place around the corner called Gravesends. Just fabulous!!! We also went for lunch to a Mexican restaurant around the corner called Ms Lupitas. Food was delicious too! There is a wine and spirits store in same vicinity. Costco is also close, a 10 minute walk and they also have wine and spirits attached to this 2 level store.
