Detailed Reviews
Try not to stay at this hotel. Although the location is ok, the rooms are dirty, ours had stained sheets, graffiti and small roaches. Many of the fixtures and fittings are broken, (including live lamps with no bulbs). Also the soundproofing is terrible, the worst I've ever experienced.

So, I'll just say up-front that I have traveled a lot and usually on a company's dime. Business travel usually means better accommodations, and then when I travel for personal reasons, I stay in pretty nice places by choice and because I am accustomed to it. I stayed at King's Hotel when I had to make a very short-notice trip to NYC for business and my department was short on travel funds. We made a decision to sacrifice staying in Manhattan, as we usually do, and stay in Brooklyn and take the train into Manhattan to save money. We found a great deal for the Kings Hotel online and booked it, without knowing anything about the Sunset Park/Boro Park area of Brooklyn - I had previously only stayed in Brooklyn in the Marriott Brooklyn Bridge, right by the Borough Hall, which is a nice area.
The hotel is okay. I did not see any problems with cleanliness in my room. The sheets were clean, but the blankets and coverlet on the bed were awful, as were the towels - very worn out and in need of replacement. The "backup blanket" in the wardrobe in my room (no closets) smelled like urine and I put it out in the hall to be picked up. But if you've seen reports on TV, you know that blankets in hotels are of dubious cleanliness anyway - I have had similar problems in five-star hotels. The floors at Kings are tile, so no gross carpet, and the bathroom was immaculate in my room. The rooms are small by absolute standards, but was actually slightly roomier than hotel rooms I have stayed in in Manhattan. There is a free breakfast in the morning that had bagels and coffee and the front-desk people were very nice and helpful to me. The elevator worked fine and although some reviews have complained about noise from the karaoke bar downstairs, all I ever heard at night was street noise (it's New York) and some thump-thumps of a sound system (but I was on the 4th floor, it might have been worse closer to the ground floor). All in all, the hotel was much, much better than the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The hotel would be fine to stay in if it was in a better neighborhood, but it is not.
Not being from NYC, I had to look this up. The hotel is right on the border between the Sunset Park and Boro Park neighborhoods in Brooklyn. It is, from what I can see, about 90% a mix of South American, Korean and Chinese, and Orthodox/Hasidic Jewish residents. That is totally fine and I found the cultural mix interesting to observe. What isn't fine is that we saw several street fights, obvious drug deals, and dangerous-looking people in the streets around the hotel, day and night. (Never did see a police car, though. Not once.) The area is filthy and there are many sketchy businesses with sketchy individuals hanging out in front of them everywhere. There are not very many "nice" places to eat within close proximity of the hotel. What restaurants are there are the generic counter-run Chinese or Mexican places where the food is of dubious origin and cleanliness. And although the subway station for the D line is very close to the hotel, it is located next to a tiny "park" that was full of homeless people, what looked to me like drug dealers and gang members, and people having loud drunken arguments, even at 8 in the morning. Basically, the immediate neighborhood around the hotel is a wasteland and not something most older, more-experienced travelers NOT accustomed to NYC outer-borough "color" want to deal with. (P.S., I am only 35).
At all our meetings, my colleagues and I were asked where we were staying and when we explained it, were greeted with expressions of horror and exhortations to "be careful" and "don't go out after dark." We actually had one business contact tell us "I would invite you out for drinks tonight, but I don't want you having to walk through that neighborhood late at night when you get back! It wouldn't be safe." Great. Now the hotel's neighborhood is affecting our business.
After three nights in the hotel, my colleague had to go back home unexpectedly and I elected to cut my trip short as well and leave also, as I frankly did not feel safe as an obviously out-of-place tourist/businessperson in an unfamiliar, menacing neighborhood. I am sure there are Brooklynites out there saying "that neighborhood's not that bad." If you live there, or somewhere like it, and are used to it, it is not that bad. If you live in a nice, upscale neighborhood in the Midwest or Southwest or West and you come into the area as an outsider, yes, it is that bad and frankly, for me it was terrifying. My street at home is like something out of Leave it to Beaver, with nice neighbors and manicured lawns and kids playing in the street. Definitely no junkies shooting up, or street fights between gang members. So yes, I thought it was that bad. P.S., it is at least 40 minutes on the D-train from the 9th ave. station by the hotel to midtown Manhattan, just so you know.
So here's the bottom line. If you are a young traveler with gumption and some self-defense skills looking to experience the big city, trust me, you could do far worse than than this hotel, especially compared to some of the hotels in Manhattan that seem hell-bent on ripping off rube tourists. If I had been traveling in my 20s on a pleasure trip with my 6'1", 220-lb husband who lifts weights and knows karate, I would have had no trouble with staying at Kings. But as a mid-thirties business traveler traveling with another woman, it was awful. 40 minutes to get to the city on the train, so we couldn't go back to the hotel for a breather between widely-spaced meetings, and God forbid you forget anything when you head out in the mornings. No place to meet business contacts for a nice drink proximal to the hotel. No fun restaurants or boutiques to check out after the business day is over. I would definitely NOT recommend the area to women traveling alone, in general, old or young, no matter what you're traveling for. Much better to pay a little more, pick a decent hotel in the city, and feel comfortable about where you're staying.

I made a short 3-nite trip to NYC to celebrate my son's engagement. I wanted to stay within a reasonable reach of his place in Brooklyn Heights as well as Manhattan. Kings Hotel was only a half-block from a Subway Station, making travel reasonable despite the cold snap that hit New York for my visit.
The reception desk folks were very helpful and always present. Check in and out was a breeze. I was told I wouldn't be able to get a cab to pick me up at 4 am on a Saturday in that part of town - the gal behind the desk made it happen.
The place was modern and had an upscale feel (lots of marble and wood) and the room quite comfortable. The price was easily the best I ran across in my searches.
Other reviews complain of noise, but even with a room directly across from the elevator I had no problems. The hallways are marble, too, and by about 9:30 a.m., the cleaning crews are a bit noisy, but so what?
Two other points 1) arriving late, I was interested in finding dinner, and the staff directed me to menus from restaurants that delivered. I had a tasty and VERY reasonable meal in no time. 2) the hotel is working on remodeling to add a lounge u (city inspections are running slow) -- maybe next time!
I would wholeheartedly recommend, and stay again if/when I can visit this great city again.

I found this hotel on a whim when I suddenly needed a place to stay and am so lucky to have found it. It is clean, comfortable, quiet, safe, and convenient (everything you need is right around the corner and it's almost too easy to get to Manhattan). However, the best part of this is the staff - they are incredibly helpful, nice, and always there for anything you need. I couldn't recommend this hotel enough, especially for solo travelers or couples who need somewhere reasonably priced to stay that is simple but still has everything you need. I would highly recommend this hotel, and hope to come back in the future!

The rooms are dark and old. The bed, in our room, was destroyed, and the old TV was malfunctioning. The toilet tank was noisy and and need exchanging .
On top of all that, they asked for USD 100 deposit, for what remains a mystery as they offered nothing.
The location was near Brooklyn China Town, but an easy access to the Subway but a long way from New York s interesting places.

Is this really a hotel?? Run away!
Bad neighborhood, room not clean, mold, no ventilation in the bathroom, incessant noise outside and in the hotel, damaged electrical outlets, missing towels, dirty sheets.
And no, there is no parking but 5 permanently occupied spaces in a very cluttered garage.
You will pay a lot for a night in this hotel but you will not sleep!

This establishment shouldn't be listed on any respectable hotel booking site. It's a brothel!
The first 2 nights were extremely noisy both inside and outside the „hotel“, but we thought it was an isolated incident. Turns out it wasn’t – the daily mayhem was the result of it being a brothel rather than a hotel. The last night we watched the show from our window until 4am (since it was impossible to sleep anyway). It got really active around midnight. As usual, there was loud music, cars pulling up and leaving, engines running, shady characters coming and going. Hookers were being picked up from the Karaoke Bar by drivers every few minutes. A guy in a van parked at the entrance (engine running, of course) was obviously smoking drugs for hours, later staggered out completely off his face, then attempted to drive off, only to crash into the hotel. Finally the side walk was cleared of other cars by various shifty characters, and he drove off in that condition.
During all this time a lot was happening on our floor, too. Hookers were going in and out, slamming doors, negotiating their next deals, and fighting with clients. The walls are paper thin so we could hear all this. It was
disgusting. Once the Karaoke Bar finally closed at 4am (it’s open that long every night), the nightly mayhem culminated in drunk hookers vomiting outside the „hotel“. Lovely...
The room was run down but kept clean. However, the mattress was horrible and the blankets old and disgusting. There was a stench of weed in the hallway every morning. Breakfast (only until 9am on week days!) was very minimalistic: bread, cereal and coffee, paper plates, cramped and grubby dining area. No eggs or cheese etc. The employees were generally unfriendly. We were met by a rude lady on arrival and barely greeted by anyone during our stay. We were told only when we complained on departure that the second floor where we had been was entirely rent-by-the-hour rooms. The full payment was taken from my credit card before we arrived against the terms we’d agreed on, and our request for a refund was ignored, unsurprisingly.
They should make up their mind whether they want a hotel or a brothel. The two things are absolutely not compatible, and their advertising is fraudulent when they claim it's an innocent, normal and family-friendly hotel. It's most certainly not!

I paid in advance for three nights through Priceline for this non-refundable hotel.
When I arrived they told me that I don't have a reservation. Later they told me that they sold this room to somebody else. My credit card had been charged for three nights. My friends told me a lot of stories about New York, but when it's happening in real life, when you have no place to go and you paid in advance for a place to stay - it is very scary and horrible experience.
Stay away from this place - this hotel is a scam, It is a shame to have such a dishonest business in states. Priceline should not offer this fraudulent hotel to anybody - the price for a night maybe cheaper but they rip you off, and leave you without shelter.

We booked two nights at Kings hotel on hotelbook.com after reading pretty positive reviews on trip advisor and expedia. We came to visit a friend and we were looking for a place at Brooklyn. The hotel seemed like OK choice considering price and location (close to where our friend stayed). Street looked bad but hotel itself looked clean and decent. Hotelbook charged credit card for one night.. Receptionist charged second night right upon arrival. It was strange but we did not see big issue.
We requested non smoking room and were told that we were getting non smoking room. The room was on third floor. There was an ash tray, it had strong odor of cigarettes, traces of cigarettes on night table walls and ceiling…yeah ceiling it is not a typo. We asked to change the room but we were told that hotel was full and there is no room. It was warm outside so we decided that we would keep a window open. We were real tired and went to bad at 11pm. Despite how exhausted we were there was no chance to sleep at all. There were incredibly loud noises from everywhere: doors wildly slammed, guys yelling, signing, ladies laud giggles and yelling, phones ringing, walky-talky etc., etc. We thought it was just too early and some large group of people just arrived, but it went on and on. Screams and voices got louder and scarier. My husband suggested to call reception but I talked him out of it. I thought it would be safer if we just stay very quiet. Yells, slamming doors and laughs lasted till 10am so we did not have even a minute of sleep.
We went to reception in the morning and asked for refund because we wanted to move to another hotel. Receptionist explained that second and first floors they rent per hour therefore they are bit noisy (bit noisy ha ha) and said she would move us to 5th floor. We insisted on getting refund. Receptionist had several calls with she said manager and explained that she is not allowed to refund our card and that we should cancel reservation through hotelbook and other BS of the kind.. We canceled on line and got cancelation number. Receptionist explained that this is not enough and she need cancelation faxed to her from the reservation site so she can refund our money. Sounds great right?
We called the reservation company (by the way we will never use this site again ) and were told that they are not sending cancelations. They fax reservations only. After wasting two hours we agreed to move to fifth floor. Other option was to loose money or to waste entire day.
In all fairness to the hotel second night was relatively uneventful There was noise but it was distant enough for two people what did not have any sleep a night before. So we did hear noises but they were not as load as it was on third floor so we did sleep that second night.
Bottom line is: if you are looking for a room that is let per hour Kings hotel is a good choice. If you want to have a night sleep pay 10$ extra for some other hotel otherwise you risk to get a room at third floor.

I just was trying to warn people - how horrible this hotel is, how rude their service is, how really far from an american definition of a good and honest business it is.
