The DWIGHT D, a city house hotel, is Philly’s original, and most loved boutique hotel. Located on 16th Street, just below Locust St., in center city Philadelphia, PA. Why the name? The property was formerly the headquarters for The Eisenhower Fellowships organization. Over 60 years ago Dwight D himself requested a Philly location for the newly founded organization bearing his name and 256 S 16th St was selected. Today we remember their time at this address with our name, The DWIGHT D. The DD offers luxury accommodations in an historic 1850s brownstone which was completely remodeled in 2014 and underwent a second round of renovation in 2020. The DWIGHT D's location in the heart of Philadelphia makes it an ideal hotel destination for both tourists and business travelers-the hotel is two blocks from The Avenue of the Arts and The Kimmel Center, two blocks from Rittenhouse Square, and within walking proximity to The Philadelphia Convention Center, Philadelphia's historic district including Independence Mall and the Liberty Bell, and Philadelphia's visual arts district including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Foundation, and the Rodin Museum. The DWIGHT D has 11 guest rooms each with a private bathroom in various sizes from Queen to King to a large King Suite. The hotel also features adjoining restaurants La Viola and Monk's Cafe, a lounge, conference room, private dining room, and large landscaped courtyard. The DWIGHT D is the perfect place to host group get-a-way weekends combining hotel accommodations with theater, shopping, spa, and dining excursions. In addition to room accommodations, the DWIGHT D offers unique options including rental of the property as a whole to sleep up to 22 or rental of event and venue space.

I absolutely loved my stay at The Dwight D last month. I came into town for one night, and needed to find a hotel. I’m a big fan of design, so I always stay at well-designed hotels. Hotels that make design a priority and recognize that it is an integral element of the guest experience. I Googled Philadelphia’s best designed hotels, and found an article that featured The Dwight D among its top 10. I called the hotel and spoke with Vittoria, the owner. She answered my questions, and was so thoughtful with wanting to accommodate me; a personal touch, that it seemed like I was talking to an old friend. And because of our rapport, I booked the room.

The Dwight D has a similar feel to a very personal bed and breakfast. I hadn’t realized this until I arrived, and was pleasantly surprised. A B&B in that there isn’t a formal reception area and you’re given a key to the front door. Beyond that, I felt very pampered and taken care of. The design is gorgeous. Vittoria and her husband designed all the rooms; and you can feel the personal touches and attention to detail. She reserved a beautiful room for me that was inspired by the beauty and comfort she felt in her room at her grandmother’s home. The bed was comfortable with loads of big, fluffy pillows; the bathroom was well appointed and modern; the window looked out onto the newly designed and enlarged garden. Downstairs there is a lovely living room; perfect for sitting with a book, talking with other guests, or admiring the garden. She also showed me renovations underway at the building next-door she has acquired. Stunning! It includes an open commercial kitchen for weddings indoors and in the back garden, and special chef appearances for culinary events. I’m thrilled for the expansion of their space and felt fortunate to get a sneak peak. I can sum up my experience of The Dwight D and Vittoria with one word: lovely.

Our stay at The Estate House, part of the Dwight D hotel, was delightful. Owner Vittoria was communicative from the start, and met us at the property upon our arrival. She was generous with her time and showed us the house from top to bottom. There is some renovation going on to connect this townhouse with the hotel proper, which actually worked well for us as it gave us access to an additional room, where we gathered for morning coffee.

The owners have put a lot into this property and it shows. If you appreciate grand, older homes, this is the place for you. Tall ceilings and windows, deep moldings and creaky wood floors add to the charm. The kitchen is MUCH nicer than mine at home, and was extremely well stocked with many spices, oils, flour/sugar, and on and on.

There was plenty of room for three couples to spread out. Outdoor green space is a precious commodity in the area, and this rear garden is just lovely — very large, shady, and private.

We appreciated the numerous “little touches” that added to the enjoyment of our stay. Temporary dashboard parking passes, two kinds of bottled water in each suite, iPad in each suite with local info highlighted, charcuterie tray and wine waiting for us…

The location is also fantastic — a block or two from Rittenhouse Square, many local cafes and eateries, and more. You won’t be disappointed if you choose to book this property.

After arriving by train in the late afternoon to find my Airbnb rental had not been cleaned, I could not believe my luck in getting a last minute booking at the nearby Dwight D. Hotel. Everything about this hotel is fabulous: hosts, accommodations, hospitality and location. The property itself is beautiful and the hosts, Vittoria and Ken are not only extremely professional as well as friendly, their knowledge of Philadelphia and all that it has to offer is phenomenal. In addition, the top notch toiletries, bottled water and beverages, bedding and towels and a super comfy bed put this hotel at a 5 star rating. The location near Rittenhouse Square and all that it has to offer can’t be beat. I will never stay anywhere else in Philadelphia; the Dwight D. Hotel is a jewel!

Rooms are very comfortable, the owners are extremely helpful, staff are friendly, amenities such as filtered water and morning coffee & tea were much appreciated. On this particular occasion, we were able to partake of a chef’s table dinner event, which was fabulous. It all bodes well for the planned expansion to include a bar and restaurant. Also, the location is fantastic for visitors wanting to visit attractions such as the Rodin museum and Philadelphia museum of fine arts. Can’t say enough about the Dwight!

As so many others have noted, this is a lovely property in all respects. It is small, elegant, extremely comfortable and well situated to walk almost anywhere in downtown Philadelphia. We chose this for size, location and historic feel, and we're so glad we did.

The owners, Vittoria and Ken, are warm and welcoming and Vittoria, a designer, has done a phenomenal job renovating two historic brownstones and connecting them in a way that is beautiful and unique. We moved rooms over our two-night stay, so we got to enjoy a deluxe queen and the suite. Both were great; well outfitted and immaculately clean, with extremely comfortable beds, large TVs, good linens, bottles of water (still and sparkling!), high-end bath amenities and fluffy robes. Some of the larger rooms have small refrigerators as well. Fresh coffee is available in a sitting room on the main floor from 8 till 11 each morning and there's hot water for tea all day. No bar, but plenty of places within a block or two for a drink, and wine glasses and corkscrews in the rooms to enjoy your own bottle(s). There is also a spectacular garden in the back, with outside heaters and a small fire pit.

Two things to know: there is no elevator and some steep stairs, but the owners are great about helping with luggage. There's a loading zone right in front to empty a car and at least two garages within easy walking distance that the owners recommended.

It was my first time in Philadelphia and staying at the Dwight D Hotel was just as much of a highlight as the rest of the city. This beautiful boutique hotel is in a lovely neighborhood. Vittoria and her husband were so kind and personable and made us feel at home in Philadelphia. The hotel is so modern and chic and clean. There was great attention to detail all throughout the hotel which made it feel extra cozy. Vittoria was even kind enough to give us a ride to the train station at the end of our stay. Highly recommend this gem of a hotel.

Vittoria and Ken were model hosts who clearly pay careful attention to details at their beautiful hotel, a gorgeous and well-kept mid-19th century brownstone near Rittenhouse Square. The accomodations were spotless, the decor was both stunning and inviting, and, best of all, the hosts were kind and generous. The Dwight D provides a warm, upscale experience without any pretention. I look forward to returning!

The Dwight D is a very nice historical property with elegant rooms and a great location. We did feel however that it lacked small touches we have experienced at similar properties around the US and elsewhere, touches that could make for a more welcoming and first class experience. Here are our observations/suggestions for making sure the overall experience is 4 star. The toilet paper is the cheapest see through tissue- do a bit better, offer some small snacks like a few cookies or a little wine in the late afternoon, have real milk or cream for the coffee bar- not just Coffeemate, place a book in the room with information on the hotel and Philly, leave a note to welcome guests to the room.

In September, we had the entire hotel booked for the weekend of my son’s wedding in downtown Philadelphia. We were from out of town, so we booked family and friends to stay with us, and The Dwight D hosted a gorgeous rehearsal party in the garden. It could not have been more perfect. I arrived early and once I had gone over plans with Vittoria and her staff, she handled everything. The food was delicious and beautiful (kudos to Chef John, who didn’t blink when we asked for adjustments for dietary restrictions). The service staff was so professional and friendly, and the bartender was excellent. In this hotel, every tiny detail is anticipated, from upscale toiletries to comfy pillows and even an iPad in each room. The garden and common areas inside the hotel are beautiful and comfortable, and we had the added advantage of having the entire place to ourselves. The location is in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance to shopping, city hall, and the historic district. Hopefully, I won’t need to host another wedding in Philadelphia, but whenever I visit, I already have the perfect place to stay!

Staying at the Dwight D was a brilliant experience! Unfortunately, my husband and I got a flat tire on our way into Philly, and Vittoria actually stayed up and waited for our arrival; she truly went above and beyond. Now, I don't recommend getting a flat tire...but this does show you the level of service that the Dwight D offers to people who stay! They care about your needs and your well-being. Vittoria was in contact with me the entire time during our rough experience, and it was wonderful to see a then-stranger caring about us.

Additionally, the hotel itself is just lovely. The architecture of the building is stunning, and our room was decorated beautifully. We loved the shower (it had a rainfall shower head), and I love any place that uses L'Occitane for toiletries (including lip balm)!! The location is great due to its proximity to Walnut Street and Rittenhouse Square, and everything was accessible for the weekend.

I highly recommend staying at the Dwight D. It was one of my more memorable hospitality experiences due to the kindness of the staff (who always greeted you by name) and comfort provided!
