We stayed at the Park Central Hotel for my 40th Birthday celebrations in NYC. Having read some reviews ahead of our stay, i was concerned about the lift situation, so ahead of our stay emailed and requested a low floor, just in case it did prove to be a big issue. Whilst it's true work is going to upgrade the lifts, resulting in fewer lifts operating, we never waited more than a few minutes for either a guest or service lift. Ahead of staying, my wife contacted reception to see if they could do anything special for my arrival, and the lovely Betty didn't disappoint. On arrival there were balloons, banners, a bottle of wine and even a cake! We'd like to thank Betty and the team for such a warm welcome! Our room was on the 5th floor and was massive by New York Standards. The room was clean, warm and even though we were on the 5th floor, we couldn't hear the noise of the city. In terms of amenities, the room had everything you'd expect including an iron, ironing board and a safe. And as a bonus, the bathroom actually had a bath! The hotel did impose a 'resort/facilities fee' on arrival (around $40 per night), which is really money for nothing, however pretty much all hotels do in NYC so it's just one of those things you accept when you stay in NYC. At the start of our stay a $400 deposit was taken on card, and this was all refunded easily on departure (less the value of the resort/facilities fee). Moving on to the location, it really doesn't get much better... situated on 7th Avenue and within a few minutes of 2 subway stations, you're within a 5 minute walk uptown to central park, or 5 minutes downtown to Times Square. Nearby there are quite a few shops for essentials, Carnegies is a great spot for American Breakfast, and there is a Shakeshack a moment away for a quick bite to eat. The hotel has a complimentary luggage room if you arrive/depart early, so our first and last days were not spoiled by having our luggage on us. We made our way from JFK easily enough without booking a transfer. We took the skytrain to Jamaica station in Brooklyn, then got on the E subway to 57th Street/-7th Avenue station, which is a couple of minutes from the hotel, and all in all the journey from JFK to hotel took about 50 minutes. We had a great time in NYC... did all the observation decks (Empire state with 102 floor is the best and the Freedom Tower was the worst). We watched Hamilton at the Roger Richards Theatre and would recommend Bond42 for pre theatre meals/drinks. We also ate out at a restaurant called Hawksmoor, which served possibly the best steak i've ever eaten and is definitely worth checking out. Back to the hotel though... I'm sure with a bigger budget than mine, you could find a better hotel, however i think you'd struggle to beat the location regardless of how many dollars you spent. The hotel was spacious, clean, comfortable, welcoming and the lifts were really manageable. I would thoroughly recommend this place.

Hotel's Favorite
We've stayed at this hotel 4 times, and its the best value for money if what you are looking for is location and comfort. This last stay was particularly good because the people at the hotel were very kind to accommodate my needs, especially the guest experience manager Betty McKenzie. Since there is no kitchenette or fridge in the room, and I need it to refrigerate something and then had it warm up each morning, she offered me a kettle and a mini fridge, which totally took care of my need. On top of that, I wrote to the hotel the day before, telling them that due to my flight being canceled, I was now arriving on an earlier flight which meant I was to arrive at the hotel at 6 am, without being able to sleep at all the previous night; Betty was extremely nice finding a room for me to check in at that moment so I could sleep at my arrival; in order to do that, she upgraded me to a better room which was the one available at that time. She really went out of her way to help me with everything, and that made all the difference. At the time of my stay, they were doing maintenance on the elevators so only 1 was working but I never waited more than 5 minutes.

…until I know for certain they’ve fixed and re-commissioned ALL the lifts/elevators. Once they’ve confirmed that all 4 of them are working then one can stay there with confidence because it’s a good hotel in a great location. But really…for a high-rise hotel to have a mere 2 lifts working whilst queues build up to pack in like commuters on the Tokyo metro or waiting for 10 minutes on your floor for the lift to arrive only to find there’s no room because it’s already full beyond capacity…it just isn’t good enough. I understand this has been a long term issue. So come on guys, get them fixed and operating. That aside, a fine hotel, impressive lobby, nice bar area, helpful staff. I’d certainly stay again in a year or so when I’m likely to be back in NYC. The subway is a minute away, Central Park 5 minutes, Times Square 7 minutes and a couple of great diners and 2 good Irish bars that serve locals rather than tourists. 1 star deducted for the lifts but other than that…

Everything about this perfectly located hotel was appealing except the elevator service. The hotel is apparently upgrading the elevators but is doing so in a manner making getting from the lobby to your room or room to lobby an ordeal--a 20 or 25 minute adventure. The lack of normal, acceptable elevator service defined my stay and is the only reason I wouldn't return.

The hotel is lovely. It looks impressive, is clean and very tidy. We had a classic king room, and it was spacious, clean and well presented. Staff were polite, helpful and courteous. The hotel is ideally located in NY - far enough away from Times Square to have reasonably priced shops and eateries around, but then a short walk away to get there. There is WiFi throughout the hotel, and it’s really good. There are quite a few places to eat and drink nearby. Our favourite was Premier Deli Cafe for breakfast, which was just a short walk away (towards Times Square). Lovely pastries, coffee and good tasting tea. The only issue was the lifts. It was mentioned on previous reviews, and the hotel said they were dealing with it. There were four, but two were not working - leaving 2. However, during our stay one day, one was t working. This turned into a nightmare as the hotel was full of young people who I think were attending a youth UN convention. This meant queues were ridiculously long & hence waits. This was the only thing that spoilt our stay - but was was a pretty important issue.

We stayed as a family of four during February half term. This was our first visit to New York. I must say I was a little worried before arriving about the lift situation but it caused us no bother and we didn’t wait more than 5 minutes even at peak times so do not listen to some of these negative reviews! On arrival we were greeted with balloons, banner and a sweet treat for my boys ( it was my son’s 16th birthday) Betty in guest services was lovely and very easy to deal with to request this. We only went into the bar once which was a lovely experience, very relaxing. The location of the hotel was perfect for us, we walked everywhere. Times Square in one direction and Central Park in the other. The room was cleaned daily to a high standard. If we were to return to New York we would definitely return.

Stayed at Park Central hotel and celebrated my daughter’s 18th whilst there. I had emailed before arriving asking if there was anything that could be done to help celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Having spoken with Betty guest relations manager via email she said that she would be able to accommodate the celebration. When we arrived it was lovely to find balloons, card and cookies and a cake in our room which was a lovely touch. The actual hotel itself is lovely and rooms were very clean and did the job. Before we left we had heard about the lift situation which only affected us a couple of times where there was no lift. This wasn’t a major issue as just used the stairs. When lifts were working we never waited more than 5 minutes for one. Overall our stay at Park Central was a good one

I was very excited to be visiting New York for my birthday and booked this hotel as a package with BA holidays. I hadn’t looked on the review sites before booking (note to self - always check the review sites!) and wasn’t aware of the lift issue until BA emailed me about a fortnight before. I then looked at the various reviews and began to dread the holiday.. However, it wasn’t an overly bad experience for us personally. Firstly, the lovely reception lady removed the destination tax as we were given our room - I think this is because we were on the 18th floor! We then booked a luxury river cruise for my birthday with Matt (concierge) who was AMAZING! He even gave us a card to get a free drink at the hotel bar! On my birthday itself, we were given a lovely bottle of wine and cake in our room, and we didn’t get the random smoking charge added which many people seem to get. However, I wouldn’t go back for a number of reasons. The lifts are a pain - it’s not a deal breaker but it does prevent you from just nipping in and out during the day as you don’t want the wait. Our room was fine - lovely bed and fabulous hot shower. Yes, they need updating but they are more than adequate for a few days. I am staggered that they don’t have tea/coffee/water in the room - especially when going to their coffee shop requires a long lift wait. Even a self serve machine on each floor would help until the lifts are sorted. The other disappointment for us was that there was no restaurant and the bar was closed for two of the four nights we were there. So, you always have to stay away from the hotel. As others have said, the location is amazing for seeing the big sites of NYC and all the staff we met were very pleasant. If the hotel was actually functioning properly then it could be an option for the future, but I feel it needs significant investment and better facilities before it can truly compete with others. It’s not a four star hotel by any stretch at the moment.

Wendy, we're glad to hear of your pleasant interactions with our team members at the front desk and with Concierge Matt, and we're happy your birthday was commemorated with a surprise gift in your room. In regards to your feedback about the elevators, indeed we're aware that they can sometimes be busy and we're working extensively to ameliorate this. We understand that in-room amenities like coffee and tea can add to the comfort of a stay, your suggestion about self-service machines has been noted. You're right, improvements in certain areas would enhance our guest experience, and we are persistently looking into these upgrades. We appreciate your comments about the current lack of restaurant service and changes to our bar operation. This feedback is invaluable as we aspire to fully satisfy our guests' needs. It's unfortunate you did not get the chance to experience them. At Park Central Hotel New York, we take pride in our fantastic location and our amiable team members. We aspire to provide a service that truly represents a four-star hotel experience and ensure any changes we make are only for the betterment of our guests’ experience. Thank you for your detailed feedback. We hope that we would get another opportunity to deliver a superior experience should you decide to visit New York City in the future.

The best 40th birthday!! My Mum and I stayed at the Park Central Hotel, New York this February 16th-20th, and have had the most incredible time. When we arrived, unfortunately (due to a current renovation of existing lifts) there were some issues with the lifts, meaning we had to use the service elevator along with many other guests… HOWEVER, this was made right by the hotel staff and namely and specifically Noah Valera. From the moment we spoke to the Manager - Noah, he was attentive, kind, diligent and made any lift problems irrelevant with his excellent customer service, and we are so grateful. I was celebrating a special birthday, and it was our first time in New York… and one to remember forever. We received a welcome birthday gift of wine and cakes, and on my birthday, champagne was delivered to our room with a fresh fruit platter - a really special touch from Noah. We also received breakfast tokens as a way of saying “sorry for any inconvenience” in terms of the lifts, and this was so helpful and welcomed. We also got upgraded to a double king sized bed room so that Mum and I were able to relax in our own comfort. The Hotel is 2 short blocks from Central Park, very accessible on 7th Avenue and you can see Times Square lights in the distance… around a 15-20 minute walk. Opposite is Carnegie Hall, and on the corner looking out is Carnegie Hall Diner… which is a MUST visit!!!! With queues around the corner over the first weekend we arrived, we only managed to eat here on our last day for lunch… it’s probably a blessing in disguise to be honest, as with the large portions and incredible menu (a whole page on Plant Based food - (see separate review), we would have been too full to walk anywhere. All in all, the Park Central Hotel was an absolute JOY!!! Nancy the lady that runs the stunning bar was a delight, very friendly and accommodating, the door and porter staff were so sweet and friendly… and Elsa on reception also kind and generous. Do not hesitate to book this fabulous hotel, I will certainly be booking again when I return to New York. Thanks to everyone involved, but mostly our Manager Noah for the best birthday ever.

Our experience of this hotel is very much marred by our first encounter with the hotel staff . Hotel looks great from the outside ,foyer smells great , location is perfect short distance from Central Park one way and short distance to Times Square and the Subway in the other. Beware a wolf in sheep’s clothing, on arrival at reception we were met with a very sour greeting from the receptionist who informed me she was going to block my credit card for $1400 , reeling from this ( I had paid for the holiday in full some months previously) I questioned the amount and she said oh actually it’s $900 which she said was for a security deposit or in case we spent money in the bar or shop which I said was ridiculous. She volunteered to get the manager , who was equally sour faced and said if I didn’t like it they would cancel my reservation and I would have to ask my agent to find us somewhere else for myself and my 18 year old daughter, bearing in mind it was by then 11pm UK time and not wanting to be left stranded in an unfamiliar city I felt we had no option but to go ahead with this! The receptionist refused to give me a receipt and said it would remain a pending transaction. This was not the case and I have had to wait 17 days for this to be returned to my card , and had to contact my credit card company! As we left the reception desk the receptionist shouted at me and don’t smoke in the room or it will cost you $500 ( I don’t and never have smoked ) . On arrival at our 11th floor room there was a large dirty stain on the carpet between our and next rooms door which remained for the entirely of our 9 day stay. The carpet was frayed in the room and the decor very tired , the blind and ceiling stained in parts. The room was extremely hot and we couldn’t open the window even slightly. We turned the heating off but most days we would come back to find it had been turned back on to 28 degrees! On the plus side the room was large the beds comfortable and we were given plenty of towels ( although they were rather small). There was no complimentary water in the room or kettle ( we asked for one but it never materialised) . There were two thin plastic cups on the dressing table! As other guests have mentioned there was often a smell of weed on the landing and only one lift was working , which was usually very cramped , although we did meet some lovely fellow but equally disgruntled guests! To conclude we loved NYC but I wished I had taken heed of the reviews prior to our trip and found a different much friendlier hotel that doesn’t try to scam its guests!

Nikki, it's unfortunate to hear about this first impression you received from our colleagues at reception. It's important to us that every interaction enhances your experience, so it's disappointing that we failed to meet expectations in this instance. We assure you the card holds are a standard procedure, not meant to cause distress but to ensure seamless transactions during your stay. Your comments about the room's condition and serve as vital information for us to improve on these aspects. Your citation of the smell on the landing is concerning, as we strictly enforce a smoke-free environment policy. We understand that these occurrences may have caused discomfort during your stay. It saddens us to hear your overall experience was less than enjoyable. By taking into account your invaluable feedback, we can implement changes necessary to ensure a more satisfactory visit for future guests. We are hopeful to have the opportunity of welcoming you back for a more enjoyable stay.
