Nestled in a prime spot, Hotel Beacon is celebrated for its advantageous location, mere steps from subways and Central Park, as guests have often mentioned. While the charm of its atmosphere and the practicality of well-equipped kitchenettes for extended stays have earned the hotel compliments, opinions diverge on the value, with some travelers finding the balance of cost and amenities agreeable, and others pointing out the absence of complimentary perks. The spacious rooms, though acknowledged for their size, are frequently suggested to be outdated and in need of a refresh. The cleanliness and service, particularly the housekeeping, receive consistent praise for maintaining high standards.

I think this was our 10th stay at the Beacon over the past 15 years. I won't stay anywhere else in New York. The location is superb (close to subway, grocery stores, Central Park, river), the rooms are huge with small kitchen and dining table so you can eat in. It makes being away for a long time do-able to have the space to have the older kids in the lounge room and our own separate bedroom. We had 16 nights here this trip (2 adults, 2 adult kids) and it was totally comfortable because we had so much space. The laundry is great and means you don't have to pack as much as you can wash on the go. I have met some great people in the Beacon Laundry over the years, it's actually really fun to go do laundry there! No it's not 5 star and you don't get turndown service or chocolates on your pillow, but when I'm away for weeks at a time I want somewhere that I can feel at home in and have space to eat and move around. The bathrooms are small but you manage. Housekeeping is great and I do love that you don't wash the dishes/glasses/cutlery you use - housekeeping replace them every day with fresh ones so you know they are nice and clean and sanitary.

We were on a family vacation in NYC and stayed at the Beacon. We already knew the city a lot and we always stayed in the Upper West Side for the pleasant climate of quiet neighborhood. This time we chose this hotel and it was a great experience. The room we chose had a room with a king-size bed, plus a living room with a sofa bed, a toilet and a well-suited kitchen, with stove and oven, microwave, coffee maker (they offer 4 capsules every day), toaster, refrigerator and utensils in general. In addition, if I need other utensils, just ask. The environment has several cabinets, 2 televisions and air conditioning. The latter, as in many other hotels in the city, due to the age of the buildings, works well, but is noisy. The hotel staff is always very friendly and friendly. We had to stay 2 nights beyond the booked due to the problem of the company CrowdStrike that canceled Flights, and did not measure efforts to keep us accommodated. The region is ultra well served and in front there is a very good supermarket and excellent rotisserie, plus countless restaurants around and location less than 2 blocks from the subway, plus bus lines. If you want a good place to stay, go easy.

This was my second stay at the Beacon and it was excellent. Things I liked:
-Front desk/lobby staff super-friendly, helpful, and always greeted us upon entry/exit.
-Room was always immaculate. Got to know one of the housekeeping staff and she was delightful and friendly!
-Although other reviews say rooms need an upgrade/updating, we found ours to be quite updated, nothing looked old/worn. Ours was a King Suite.
-Large rooms compared to other NYC hotels.
-Soundproof rooms.
-Comfortable beds.
-No bugs that we noticed.
-Windows that actually open!
-A/C and heating worked flawlessly.
-Location is fantastic. Market across the street so helpful.
-Mini kitchen saved us $$ as we were able to make our own breakfasts.

In summary, a stay that exceeded our expectations. I don't have a bad thing to say about the Beacon!

Great location within walking distance of a subway on 72nd st. Hotel room desperately needs an upgrade, and cleaning needs to be addressed. We stayed for 5 nights and our room was not hoovered, bins were changed and towels replaced along with kitchen crockery but no other cleaning took place. Kitchen worktop was not wiped over, bathroom sink was not clean smears on bathroom mirror. The shower in our room could not be adjusted and it’s difficult to shower with the water pressure (full force), heater isn’t the best either pumping out hot air or cold air. Cracked bathroom and kitchen tiles, bath also looked marked and time to be replaced. No wardrobe just a cupboard with no light which also houses the ironing board and safe. Impossible to see the safe without a torch. Cupboard looked dark and dingy so lived out of our suitcases. Room is very dark with no ceiling lights only lamps. No restaurant or bar, so hotel doesn’t offer much other than a room and kitchen. Whilst some guests may welcome the addition of a kitchen this layout is similar to a bed sit or student accommodation. We would not return. Apart from a pleasing exterior with its Christmas lights the hotel loses its appeal once you step into the lobby lifts to the accommodation floors.

Dear Anna M, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your recent stay with us. We truly value your input, as it helps us identify areas where we can improve the experience for our guests. While we’re glad to hear you appreciated our convenient location and festive exterior decorations, we are very sorry that your stay fell short of expectations in several areas. The housekeeping issues you encountered, including incomplete cleaning and upkeep of your room, are unacceptable and not reflective of the standards we strive to maintain. We will be addressing this matter with our housekeeping team to ensure improvements are made immediately. Your observations regarding the condition of the room and its facilities, such as the shower, heater, and lighting, have been noted. We understand how important it is for our accommodations to be functional and comfortable. I want to assure you that renovations are part of our plans, and feedback like yours is invaluable as we prioritize updates. We regret that the lack of an on-site restaurant or bar affected your experience. While many guests do appreciate the kitchen facilities, we understand that everyone’s needs differ, and we are sorry that our setup did not meet yours. Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts. We sincerely apologize for the shortcomings you experienced and hope that, in the future, we might have the opportunity to provide a much-improved experience as one floor was completed and if you contact us directly, we will assign a room on this floor for your next stay. Best regards,

The Hotel Beacon was perfect for our 7 night stay. We booked a two bed suite, 4 months ahead of time, with free cancellation up to night before stay. I cannot praise it highly enough. All the staff we met were very friendly, helpful, courteous. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were big, spotlessly clean and well thought out. It is a lovely combination of excellent quality and homely. Big comfy beds, big screen TV’s and well equipped bath/shower rooms. WiFi excellent, and free! When you use the kitchenette you leave used items in the sink and the maids remove and replace daily when they clean the room. There was a full size fridge freezer and full oven and hob, toaster even coffee maker etc. Everything you need to prepare a meal. Old solid building with modern double glazing so rooms were pretty much silent. Was very hot when we were there and air con was very efficient. During our stay one of the hair dryers and one of TV’s stopped working, both were fixed immediately. Location is honestly ideal. It is a very nice, safe, neighbourhood with gorgeous big old houses so lovely to stroll round. Hotel is a couple of blocks from the peace of Central Park, the nearest entrance to which is across from the famous Dakota Building. Loads of restaurants all around. Best bit is the subway access,72nd St station is a 3 minute walk from hotel and the express trains is just 2 stops to Times Sq and goes direct down to Lower Manhattan. We came back late and felt quite safe. Excellent way to get around. On last day we checked out of hotel at 11 am, but were able to safely leave our bags for 5 hours before returning. Were even then able to have a wash and brush up before they loaded our bags into a cab to the airport. If I go back to NY again I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else. Cannot think of a single negative, Hotel Beacon is perfect in my opinion.

I met some friends in the city and stayed overnight at the Beacon. The location is ideal, on the upper West side of Manhattan. It is peaceful there and if vacationing, you avoid the congestion of midtown. Its location makes it walkable to Lincoln Center and the Beacon theater. It is an ideal place if you are staying in the city for some time, especially if you are travelling with your family and want to keep costs down. The room is large and I think one of the most important features is that it has an almost complete kitchen so a family could prepare breakfast or a quick lunch before going out again and enjoying the city. It comes equipped with a coffee maker, a two burner stove, a toaster and cooking equipment. There is a large market across the street from the hotel and a diner-restaurant next door for a quick meal. The bathroom is comfortable. The water pressure was good and hot and there were ample towels provided. My check in and check out was uneventful. If you need to be in midtown this hotel is a little off the beaten path but the subway/bus is nearby and provides quick and easy access back to the hotel. It was very pleasant and would book the Hotel Beacon again.

We stayed for a week at the Hotel Beacon for our first trip to NYC. Location is great, very short walk to subway station which was very convenient, and short walk to Central Park, restaurants & the museums on the west side of the park. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a King room on the 15th floor facing west. View of the fantastic Ansonia apartment building. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable, nice bed linens and pillows. Nice high ceilings and large window made the room seem large. Air conditioning worked well. Tiny kitchenette: small frig, sink, Keurig coffee maker and dishes; it suited our needs as we wanted to have a simple breakfast in the room each day to save money on restaurant meals. Food market right across the street and Trader Joe's a few blocks away. Bathroom was small but sufficient. Prior to arrival I was a bit concerned about a couple of recent reviews about bugs, but we did not see one bug, and I looked very carefully when we got into the room. Very clean. Overall very happy with the Hotel Beacon!

Stayed with our daughter early November and we absolutely loved our stay in fact it was faultless. From the moment we were checked in by Yomi we knew we had chosen the right hotel for us. Lovely comfy beds, spotless room, small kitchenette with a coffee machine that actually made great coffee. The room had everything we needed for a great stay. From our room on the 9th floor you could hear no street noise at all. All the staff we met were just so friendly.
The location is perfect as it is in a quiet area but just a couple of minutes walk to the Subway. There is a great supermarket just opposite the hotel and Central Park is just a short walk away. An extra bonus is Levains Bakery is only a couple of minutes away and the cookies are just to die for and the best we have ever tasted.
We have no hesitation in recommending the hotel and the location and a huge thank you to the whole team at The Beacon for helping create special memories on what was a father and daughter trip of a lifetime :-)

Like many NYC hotels, this is quite an old property but it tastefully done with rooms of a decent size for NYC - and we actually got a good view from the 10th floor (always ask). The room itself lacked a few power sockets, but we came prepared with extension leads and adaptors! The hotel lacks a decent lobby as is often the case in this city but it's generally very nice inside. The staff were very helpful and the hotel is well located for transit @ 72nd Street and local synagogues (Lincoln Square is less than 10 minutes walk).

Dear RoyalSilk, Thank you for staying with us. We are glad you like the view from the 10th floor. It's great to hear that despite the property's age, the rooms were tastefully done and offered a decent size for New York City standards. It's true that some older hotels might have limitations in terms of power outlets, but it's fantastic that you found a solution to make your stay comfortable. The hotel's location near transit at 72nd Street and its proximity to local synagogues, especially Lincoln Square, seem to have added to your positive experience. The helpfulness of the team is always a major plus, contributing to a more enjoyable stay overall. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights about your stay at the Beacon Hotel! This was our 6th stay at the Beacon over the past 13 or so years. Obviously, we really like staying here. It's a bit expensive, but worth it to get the great location and have the option of a suite. One of us wakes up about 2 hours earlier than the other so it's nice to be able to shut the bedroom door and start the coffee consumption without disturbing the spouse. We love the nearby grocery stores (Fairway, Citarella, Zabar's) and being able to eat some of our meals in the room. We also usually need to do some laundry and the Beacon has a nice laundry room. It did take me a little while to get the new app going to pay for the machines this time but once this boomer figured it out it was fine. We did notice that the little kitchenette area needs some attention and /or updating; the cabinet doors and drawers were getting kind of worn out and misaligned. Other than that, the suite was fine. The daily housekeeping service was very nice; so many other hotels no longer offer this. The front desk staff are polite and professional and the guys at the door are quick and helpful with luggage, getting taxis, etc. We will continue to make this our spot in NYC.

Dear susann201, It's fantastic to hear that you've had such a positive experience during your 6th stay at the Beacon over the past 13 years! Your loyalty and appreciation for the hotel's amenities and location are evident. The flexibility of having a suite, especially with the option to close the bedroom door for early risers, and the convenience of a kitchenette for preparing meals contribute to a comfortable and enjoyable stay. It's great that you make use of the nearby grocery stores and appreciate the added benefit of a laundry room. We appreciate your feedback about the kitchenette area needing attention, and it's valuable for the hotel to be aware of any areas that may require updating. It's wonderful to hear that the daily housekeeping service was a positive aspect of your stay, and the professionalism of the front desk team and the helpfulness of the doorman/bellmen make a difference in creating a welcoming environment. Thank you for sharing your experiences, and it's clear that The Beacon is a special place for you in NYC. We can't wait to welcome you back! Best regards, Milja

Can anyone confirm if a double suite is higher up with a nice view?

I’ve stayed there several times. I’ve had them on higher flooors (above 15) and lower floors. The higher floors have better views, but not what I consider to be “great” views. I don’t think the Beacon has views of the iconic Manhattan skyline. That being said, I really like the hotel - lots of space and the kitchenette is great. We never cook in the room (although you can) but the big fridge and the extra space is nice. We stayed there in May and they were remodeling their rooms. I think they were starting on the top floor and working their way down. Call the hotel directly and ask your questions. They have always been very helpful. The Beacon has always been our go-to hotel in Manhattan.

I would say yes but about 3 or 4 transfer later. So much easier taking a cab. There is a flat fee to anywhere on Manhatten. Worth it.
