Nestled in lower Manhattan, The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel captivates guests with its old-world charm and eclectic elegance, though it's not immune to noise complaints. While many travelers admire the well-maintained rooms and the cleanliness of the property, some are disappointed with the room size and noise levels, which can impede a good night's sleep. The hotel's amenities, including the praised bars and restaurants, add to the allure despite some minor drawbacks.
Service experiences vary, with instances of both exceptional and underwhelming encounters. Despite its prime location and aesthetic appeal, guests have called out concerns regarding value for money.

Came into NYC from Long Island on a Friday. Easy drive in and valet parking was very efficient. Bags were taken and we walked in. Check in was very smooth. We stayed via Amex FHR program and person who checked us in was very familiar with the program and explained all the benefits and gave us the letter explaining. We did get a slightly larger room on upgrade program. Aldo the bellman was knowledgeable as he delivered bags to our room and explained the hotel.
Hotel runs very well. Lobby is nice, bar area is great. It was suggested by concierge George to book a table at the bar so did that for Friday at 5. Good move as it did get crowded on a Friday. Service was good and Expresso martinis were on point.
Concierge George was able to secure a dinner reservation at a restaurant we were not able to get on our own, so very appreciative of that. George provided lots of other suggestions and knows the area very well.
Room was very nice 6th floor, and quiet as road in front of the hotel is narrow so cars drive slow. Windows open which was nice.
Breakfast each day for us was in Temple Bar and it was very good.
Beekman was on my hit list for some time as many people suggested for this part of manhattan. The location is great and exploring lower NYC from this location is a home run!

The Beekman hotel is s lovely respite in lower Manhattan. In fact you could say it is a hidden gem with five star service. A definite go to. The staff is so courteous. Our waiter Jason Byrd was a love. The food is excellent. One not so small thing that impressed me was that without asking we received a clean wine glass for every pour. I usually have to ask but it was standard here. Stop in and see for yourself!

Average sized room for NYC but reasonably well appointed. Would rather more storage than a table with expensively priced candy and drinks to entice unsuspecting guests. Rooms were clean and I was pleasantly surprised that they made up the room each day (Like the old days!) without asking specifically. Glad to say that the plumbing and heating all worked very well, even the sink 'plug' worked properly (unlike many hotel rooms where water leaks away before you can use it!)....liked the fact you can open windows in the room for some (brisk) fresh air overnight. Overall, a good experience in a retrofitted hotel within an old building, very nicely done. Sadly, points lost due to the restaurant and bar not being directly run by the hotel itself (was told those services are outsourced)....no priority given to hotel guests resulting in us waiting almost an hour for a table for two for a nightcap with nowhere to wait other than a cold corner next to the coat closet, made to feel embarrassed and after a long wait even though a table sat empty for the whole time, left to go to our room feeling slighted. the reason they gave for the empty table was that a reservation had failed to show and that there was another reservation 30 minutes later after we asked to sit there (around the same time frame the table was empty prior to this). So, enjoy the hotel but don't expect to casually walk in after a long day and sit at the bar to relax, you will need to make a prior reservation and then hope everyone else is on time.

The Beekman is touted as a 5 star experience in a grand old world style hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful. The lobby is grand and warm, the furnishing interesting and eclectic. But that’s where the 5 star experience ends. Check in was fine, average for a lower end hotel, swipe your credit card and elevator is over there and that’s it. Nobody asked to help us with our bags. No offerings to set up reservations for dinner. No small touches that make you feel special and welcome. When we asked for late checkout, they made it seem as though it was a huge deal to extend it an hour.
Warning: there’s a $35 “destination” fee that is supposed to get you Wi-Fi and bicycle rentals. The Wi-Fi is slow, however and there’s an up charge for high speed internet. Also, you can rent bikes at the nearby citibike locations for half that fee.
The room, again, has beautiful furniture but it’s small. The bed sinks in the middle and there are 4 flat pillows on the bed. Nothing special. No extra blankets in the clothes chest, no sham pillows to sit up in bed with.
The terrace is nice, more in theory that in use. Ours had one wall with an artificial hedge on one side but the other side was completely open and looked into the ENTIRE gym next door. You feel very exposed. The terrace was, frankly, dirty and the door was stuck to the point where they had to send someone up to open it for us. No pillows out there, no covering for the rain. There were cigarette butts everywhere, including on the furniture. The table and chairs had stains on them and were clearly not cleaned in a while.
Another warning: There’s heavy duty construction going on across the street and it’s almost impossible to enjoy the terrace with the CONSTANT sounds of jackhammers going. Looks like they are erecting a building so that problem is not going to be relieved anytime soon.
The last straw was that despite us knowing that the type of room we had was not booked for the night when we were leaving, they wouldn’t extend late checkout another hour without a $50 fee. $50, for an hour!!
Overall, we really wanted to enjoy our Mother’s Day treat and a night away from the kids was great-but we could have gotten the same experience for significantly less money.
Would not recommend.

I loved everything about my two night stay. The hotel is gorgeous from top to bottom. Coming from a background in hospitality, I have high standards in the execution of customer service. This hotel delivered-- check in and check out was well coordinated, the food was magnificent, and every single staff member I had the pleasure of speaking with was courteous (I can't remember everyone's names but the last person I spoke with is Dan). I highly recommend this hotel and would love to return in the future.
In the age of COVID: give a little more time than usual to place orders from in room dining. I had time to spare so I didn't mind. Get the croissants. They are everything.
The hotel has hand sanitizing stations at every high touch point (elevators/doors).

We stayed for a week in Jan 2019, having done extensive research into all the best hotels in NYC. We were celebrating my wife's birthday. After a long flight from the UK, we were greeted by quite a curt and obtuse front of desk lady (short, curly brown hair and round glasses). When you check into 5 star institutions, such as the Beekman, you expect to see a warm and caring personality; However this lady was the most disinterested front of house we have ever met. I told her we were celebrating my wife's birthday to which she congratulated us, and I asked if there was anything the hotel could do as a kind gesture. Sadly the hotel didn't acknowledge her birthday which would have been nice.
The setting of the Beekman is fantastic as other reviewers have pointed out. The rooms are well instructed, if a little noisy from the traffic outside. The lighting in the rooms is fantastic and beds are super comfortable. The continental breakfast is good. They don't have a kettle or teacups in the rooms. Each day we had to ask for teacups and once waited for 50 minutes for 2 teacups to be delivered to our room!
We had a nice stay at the Beekman, but we feel that when you pay top dollar you expect an excellent level of service for returning custom. I'm not sure if it wasn't for the architecture and setting of the Beekman, that it warrants it's 5 star rating.

Dear EyedocBirmingham, Thank you for staying with us and your honest feedback. I was very happy to read that you enjoyed the architecture and the setting that we have created. I cannot agree with you more that our beds are super comfortable. Your comments on the service that you received from our front office host, however, has me very surprised. This is not the standard that the team members are known for and certainly not the service culture that we have created. I apologize that your welcome experience was not perfect. I hope that we have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide a world class experience in the future. Thank you again for your review. Warmest regards, Nick Hafer General Manager

This was my second trip to the Beekman. My first was a year before on the recommendation of a friend. The first time I walked in I was blown away by how comfortable I felt immediately. It’s a warm welcoming hotel which most high end boutique hotels definitely are not. It was the same this second time. I had brought my girlfriend to get engaged and the staff and management went above and beyond what was required.
The rooms are well laid out and spacious for a NY hotel. The fittings and pieces are stylish and functional. My girlfriend loves the bathrooms there and says it’s the most comfortable bed she’s ever slept on. As I mentioned the building is gorgeous and lovingly restored and the atrium is a must see. I’ve dined at both in house restaurants and the food is excellent at Temple Court and Augustine. The bar room is a hip popular hang out spot for the FiDi crowd. You may think it’s far from what you want to do uptown, but almost every subway line comes together near here and it’s a 5 minute walk to almost any line and you’re on your way.
It’s a premium New York hotel, it is not cheap, but good things shouldn’t be. The Beekman is worth every penny, and it is now my go to hotel every time I’m in New York. You will not regret staying here.

We usually stay in Midtown whenever we visit NYC but we saw The Beekman was available thru the Amex FHR program so we gave it a try. We were blown away! The architecture is even more impressive in person, and the decor from the lobby to the room are truly unique. We had breakfast every morning since it’s included as part of the FHR program. Breakfast was delicious but a bit pricey if we didn’t have the credit. The on-site restaurant is open for breakfast on weekends only so we had to order for in-room dining for 2 out of the 3 nights. The bed was super comfy, and the shower water pressure was great. The hotel is just a few blocks away from the Fulton station with access to many train lines. It was so convenient. And did I mention there’s a Shake Shack there too, which made the hotel location even better :)
We’ll definitely stay here again next time we visit NYC.

Lobby bar is a great place for a drink and small plates. Room was larger than many NYC rooms but still not spacious. Bathroom was very large- very nice! Construction on building next door was very loud; started early and ended late. Bell staff was helpful. Plenty of hand sanitizer throughout the hotel and the guests were strongly encouraged to wear masks....most of them were doing so. I'll be back post-Covid to enjoy everything at the hotel.
