Nestled in the heart of midtown New York, the Springhill Suites New York Midtown Manhattan/fifth Avenue hotel garners praise for its prime location and generally well-maintained premises. Guests commend the friendly service, particularly at the front desk, and enjoy the complimentary breakfast despite occasional space constraints.
However, opinions on value are mixed, with some travelers feeling the hotel is overpriced and lacking in amenities. Room reviews are varied as well, with guests appreciating the quietness and views but noting that the rooms can feel small, outdated, and not as well-equipped as expected.

The location for this hotel is excellent. It is in midtown, near lots of tourist things. When I first arrived, the man who checked me in, Sonni, was very helpful and gave me lots of tips about things to do in the area. Sonni was flexible, polite, and helped me to get oriented.
As a platinum-level Marriott member, I have stayed at many SpringHill Suites hotels. This was the first time I had stayed at one in the middle of a major city. Interestingly, this hotel is juxtaposed to a Fairfield Inn & Suites and a Marriott Vacation Club, you have 3 Marriott-brand facilities in a row (along the same street are a few other hotels from other brands).
Being platinum, I got upgraded, but my room was still surprisingly small. I did not pay for a budget room, but basically that is what I ended up receiving. The hotel is a bit rundown. There were pieces of plastic sticking out from the furniture in my room, there was chipped-off paint at different points, and the heater in my room did not work so I had to call the maintenance man. He explained that the thermostat on the wall was not communicating properly with the heating unit and managed to find a workaround so that I could get heat in my room.
The complimentary breakfast was disappointing. They had scrambled eggs, one type of protein (e.g., sausage), and oatmeal. I was surprised, given the location and the size of this hotel, by such a limited spread. They did have fresh fruit, but that was also a small selection. The seating area was crowded.

New York hotel rooms are a special bunch however this one was about as standard (in a good way) as NYC properties go.
First off, it is worth mentioning that the staff were wonderful. Accommodating, kind, friendly.. I enjoyed every interaction with them. The property itself is average and typical of Manhattan. It has a small, functional lobby (the doubles as a mildly crowded room for free breakfast), two elevators that never seemed to take very long (thank goodness), and smaller yet practical rooms.
I will note that my room with two beds seemed somewhat bigger than other hotels I've been in in the past. It was highly functional and comfortable with only the bathroom being a bit on the tiny side.
The free breakfast in the morning was welcome although busy and a bit minimal, it had everything we needed to start the day.
Overall a good spot, central to midtown which meant never far away from anything in the area. I would happily stay here again.

If you care about your safety and being treated well then don’t stay here!! I stayed in this hotel with my two kids. We came back our second night there to find our room open. The person who came in to clean the room put the metal latch so the door wouldn’t shut and then left the room like that, open. Thankfully nothing was taken and no one was in the room but we could have walked into much worse. This hotel does not require a key card to get upstairs so anyone could have gotten into our room.
We called the front desk and they said a manager would be in touch. That didn’t happen. We finally found a manager two days later who told us all about their safety protocols and didn’t even offer an apology.
When we returned home a manager called and tried to gaslight me and say we left the door open. I challenged him to check his records again and the next day he called to apologize and admitted their hotel was at fault.
It took four days for them to address the issue while the entire time prior tried to make it our fault.
With so many hotel options in NY, I would say skip this one and find a place that if there was a mistake would admit fault, apologize and do what they could to make it right.

This hotel's biggest asset is its housekeeping staff. Every housekeeping staff member we interacted with was charming and couldn't do enough for us. We made some requests for extra pillows etc, and they couldn't have been more delightful or responsive.
As for the rest... The night we checked in, the scent being pumped through the air conditioning (or maybe it was the cleaning products) was so strong it felt suffocating. Thankfully, it seemed to disapate over the following 24-hours. If it hadn't, I would have needed another hotel.
The rooms are poorly laid out. Small rooms are to be expected in NYC, so what you do with the space matters. Putting a partition (desk and closet) in the middle of the room, made it more cramped, dark and diffictult to move around than necessary. The sad, slumpy looking couch wedged into a dark corner, looked dirty and took up precious space.
The power outlets at the desk are so close to the tabletop, you can't get a typical Mac transformer to plug in. I had to charge my laptop at the bedside table, and then move it to the desk to use it.
Other than that, it was a typical hotel of this standard. Nothing special, certainly not $400+ per night worth. We'll be staying somewhere else next time.

Let me start off by saying that the staff of the hotel was excellent. Everyone was friendly and very responsive. When you call the front desk, someone answers immediately. When you ask for more towels, someone brings them within 5 minutes. When you have a problem with the air conditioner, at 10 pm, they send someone within 5 minutes. Those are all positives.
I understand that it is New York City, but why they call themselves a suite hotel which is very misleading. The room was small, even by NYC standards and the decor was very tired and worn. The bed was comfortable, but for the rate we paid, $450/night, I expect more. We stayed at the Residence Inn Central Park the last time, and it was much nicer.

This is probably the worst Marriott property that I've ever stayed in (I'm a Lifetime Titanium Elite, so I've stayed at a LOT of Marriott properties). First of all, no extra amenities at all, such as a simple bottle of water in the room (you can purchase water at the front desk for $4 per bottle). Secondly, the hotel breakfast closes down promptly at 9:00 a.m., which is fine unless you want another cup of coffee after 9:00 a.m. - they pick up the coffee containers and dump the remaining coffee. Our room was so tiny, that there was almost no place to hang up or store the warm, heavier clothing that we brought for this trip. In addition, the lighting was horribly dim, making it difficult to distinguish clothing colors, and reading. I will never stay at this property again. As a side note, our friends used points to book their room, and still had to pay almost $500 per night even with the points - ridiculous!

The stay was acceptable, the location of the hotel was good (3 blocks away from the Empire State Building) and a few more to Times Square. There is no nearby metro stop but you have to walk a few blocks. The room was clean and the breakfast was in line with what is offered in many US hotels. It can certainly improve both in the quality of the products and in the variety of what is offered. But we must not forget that the hotel is only a 3 star! We really appreciated the good water pressure from the shower head, while we were disappointed by the lack of a hand shower. The mattress was comfortable but, for our tastes, a little soft.
The score is so low because to date (after 8 days) they have not yet released the amount withheld upon arrival while they have taken the entire amount established in the booking. It's the first time something like this has happened to me and I find it shameful and totally disrespectful towards the customer.

I cannot believe the high reviews on this hotel and cannot believe that Marriott would be involved in any way with lending their name to same. I booked 2 rooms for 4 days months in advance.. I knew things were going downhill when I saw the scaffolding in front of the hotel. Things got worse when we approached the tiny "front desk". I saw a stool behind the reservation clerk that had a top material that was so worn I asked the clerk if he actually ever sat in it. He said no....he sat in the one behind it that was only half as bad. To include the word Suites in the title of this hotel would be quite a overstatement. I checked the dictionary meaning of a suite which said "A group of rooms occupied as a unit". For me that has always meant a bedroom and separate room in form of a living room. The 1 room was miniscule! You had just enough room behind the bed to go into the bath room. I looked for a closet to hang our clothes and there was none. I did see an ugly dark brown small piece of furniture that looked as follows. On the right half I recall something like an ironing board. On the other 50%(left side) there was a very small drawer or 2 with a safe on top which left 25% available for hanging clothes...just enough for me to hang probably my shirts and jeans/pants. NO space for ANY of my wife's clothing which included a half dozen or more long dresses. We have traveled extensively and this was the smallest room we had ever seen and overall quite depressing and claustrophobic. Don't recall there even being a window in the entire room!...certainly not the one shown in the photo to the left of this screen. We then decided that it would not be good for our sanity to stay even 1 hour in the room and at that point I would have paid ANY amount of money to get something we could be proud of l. Luckily we were able to book 2 rooms in the 2 year old Ritz Carlton. .9 blocks south off 5th Ave which was fabulous in all respects . The only thing good about this place was the front desk clerk/mgr. who indicated he would not charge us...a true gentleman. It's unfortunate that he has to work at such a dismal hotel. Marriot would be wise to no longer be associated with this dump and owners should rent out to welfare recipients or provide free rooms for the homeless.

First impression of this hotel was not good at all. Nothing close to the photos on the website. hotel is hotel and needs renovation at the earliest. we expected better hotel.
having said that hotel was clean and offered decent size room (for NY standards) with 2 queen beds. staff was very good and helpful and eager to serve. While, the hotel itself was not great, the service of the staff compensated for the quality.
the room's ac made huge sound. same was with the exhaust fan inside the bathroom. bathroom was small and instead of shower area had bathtub where one is supposed to stand and take shower.
family was unhappy as we booked this hotel on the basis of photos and ratings.
No room slippers or free water bottles at reception. breakfast was complimentary which was simple and quick one.
Hotel location was great and everything was at walking distance.
Small and functional gym. had laundry room if people stayed for long term.
overall, i would stay that hotel is decent but they should look to renovate the entire hotel at the earliest.
also had some billing issue wherein the money was deducted twice. almost 7-8 days and issue is still not resolved. having said that, i am sure they will sort it out and this was not the reason for rating being low. My comparison was other hotels where we stayed during USA trip - boston marriott copley, fairfield niagara or mariott marquis washington.
if you want to stay for location, it is good. otherwise look for hotels which have been renovated. i think next doof fairfield looked renovated and may be better choice.
