The M Social Hotel New York Times Square is a hit for its cleanliness, with guests commending the tidy rooms and facilities, though a few spots could use more attention. Its prime Times Square location and vibrant atmosphere, complete with live music and a chic rooftop bar, are highlights, despite occasional noise complaints.
While the cozy beds are a plus, the lack of in-room coffee machines and slow elevators have drawn some criticism. Service is largely applauded for being attentive, but opinions on value are mixed, with some guests finding the costs steep relative to the hotel's offerings.

Decent sized room on a high floor, although the bathroom was very dark. It's what I would call "New York dingy". It's a little bit worn, a bit tired, a stain on the carpet and lounger. It did not seem like the hallways were vacuumed every day, or they need new vacuums. Someone's leftover drinking glasses were outside my door when I checked in, and still there the following morning when I went out. The staff is very responsive. They offered a coffee machine on check in, and had that sent up. When the TV remote didn't work, someone came with a new one pretty fast. I requested a spoon for some yogurt I had bought elsewhere, and room service kindly let me know that it would be $3 to have that sent up due to the delivery fee. So I didn't get the spoon. The outdoor bar and seating is very nice, especially at that location. The location was good, especially because we saw Cabaret, which was across the street from the hotel. I come regularly to see family who live nearby, but will try a different hotel next time.

This is our 3rd stay at M Social in the last 3 years. We keep coming back because the value, location and fabulous amenities/service cannot be beat. The location is perfect as it is just above Times Square ( avoiding the noise/ crowds) and walkable to great restaurants, Central Park, MOMA and the Broadway theatres. The front desk staff are always helpful and friendly. The housekeeping staff is so quiet - you just never know they are there while you are sleeping in from a late night out in the city that never sleeps. They even left us a thank you note for the daily room service tip and always greeted us with a hello or good morning. The rooftop bar cannot be beat with the incredible view and fire pits. The bartenders were creative and service was great! We enjoyed the daily breakfast buffet - well stocked with traditional American Breakfast ( eggs, bacon, toast, potatoes. Pancakes/ french toast as well as various pastries and fresh fruit. The coffee was excellent ( so no need to run to Starbucks!. We got the bed and breakfast special with a larger room with view of the Hudson and included breakfast plus daily bar credit. Really a very good value a d all with an excellent t view. This is our new go- to hotel for our annual New York City trips/ adventures.

My sister and I booked a room at M Social Hotel New York through Airbnb and stayed there from Dec. 17-19. On the night of the 18th, after being out all day, we returned to our room around 6:30 PM and ordered room service for dinner. We had gotten caught in the pouring rain on the way home, so my sister was using the blow dryer to dry her hair and clothes while we waited for our pizza to be delivered. Sometime before 7 PM the room service attendant came to deliver our dinner. While we were eating our food (pizza literally in hand), we received a phone call from the telephone in our room. When I went to answer, I was greeted by a hotel employee who accused us of vaping or smoking in the room, saying that a sensor had gone off and alerted them of there being vape or smoke-like substances in the air. She said that a $500 charge was automatically added to our card because of it. I was immediately confused and began asking questions, to which she replied that they use a third party company for sensors that will detect if someone vapes or smokes in a room. I explained to her that my sister and I do not smoke and that we do not have anything on us that could’ve caused these “substances” to be in the air. I also explained to her that we were in the middle of eating dinner but she insisted that this detector was accurate and said we could even go down to the lobby to view the “report”. I told her that “we would like to finish our dinner first and then we would love to come down and take a look at it.” When we went down to the lobby, a front desk associate went to the back and got the lady who called us. She handed us a piece of paper of a line graph with a single, perfectly straight line (which looks exactly the same as every other graph I’ve seen posted in these reviews). Based off the graph, she said, vaping or smoking was detected between 7:10 AM - 7:50 PM. I asked her how this sensor works as it could not possibly make sense that there was smoking detected while we were in the middle of eating dinner. She said there was nothing she could do about the charge. The reasoning she used to defend her claim was, “people will tell us they don’t vape or smoke, but then when we go clean their rooms, we sometimes might find evidence of smoking products”. I find it somewhat insane that she started resorting to hypotheticals to back up the accusation. I asked her if she was aware that the google reviews for this hotel are flooded with people sharing very similar experiences of being falsely accused of smoking in their room and being charged $500 for it. She said she was aware, so I asked her “If you’re aware of this, why do you guys keep doing this to your guests?” I also explained that a lot of the reviews mention that people were using the blow dryer shortly before they were called and accused of smoking. She continued to rely on this third-party company’s report and said that the only way to remove the charge would be to dispute it with our credit card company. Be aware that the hotel does not care at all about addressing these concerns and their only solution is to copy and paste the same response under every review that brings this up. The graph that the employee handed us says that the third-party company is called Rest. Yet, aside from the Rest company website, there’s absolutely no information anywhere online regarding the devices.

Response from General Manager, Guest Services / Front Office at M Social Hotel New York Times Square
Responded Dec 22, 2024
Thank you for reaching out to us about this matter. In all of our guest rooms, there is a device that is constantly monitoring the air quality to ensure that the room and the hotel is an absolute smoke free environment for all of our guests. These devices accurately report when detecting any smoke particles from smoking or vaping activities. They can also accurately differentiate among steam, shower, aerosols, hair spray, candle, cooking and etc.. The device in your room collected and analyzed smoke particles from your room and confirmed they were smoke particles that violate the hotel and NYC indoor smoking policy, which is why you were charged. We have also posted notices in all of our rooms to let our guests know that if they smoke or vape, they will be charged $500.

I stayed at the M Social Hotel near Times Square in New York City during the United Nations General Assembly. Overall, this was an excellent venue but the rewards program left me disappointed. I will not be back on a personal booking for this reason.
The location is excellent. I felt close to everything and was easily able to get food or entertainment when I wasn’t working the long hours required by my work assignment. Several pizza places, French restaurants, steakhouses, and other dining options were easily accessible from the hotel. Broadway shows were also close by and for further away destinations, the Subway was close and taxis / Ubers were abundant.
My room was large for a NYC room and the bathroom was nice. Plus points for the “gentle shower” shower head, minus points for the shower door and bathroom door positioning requiring the bathroom door to be closed in order to enter the shower. I banged the shower door inadvertently a couple times opening the bathroom door due to what I saw as a poor layout. Soap, towels, and other bathroom accessories were available and adequate.
Other room amenities included a mini fridge, combination safe, and iron / ironing board - all of which were extremely handy and put to use. My desk plug and light did not work, making computer work with a laptop more difficult and less convenient. I had to either sit on the bed to use my laptop with plug or stretch the plug across the desk where it was taut in order to barely make it to the outlet over the mini fridge. I don’t usually even check on outlets working (or not) in the room but this was annoying due to needing to use my laptop several times during the stay.
As mentioned, my biggest frustration came in the form of the hotel rewards program. My booking was made under a group, government-rate reservation. When I called to check on the reservation, I learned from the group sales person that the reservation was not eligible for hotel points. I have traveled frequently for work and this is never the case with M Social’s competitors.
The only silver lining for someone else booking my reservation is the hotel points accruable through the respective hotel chain for future personal visits. Until this policy changes with M Social, I will not be back whenever the choice is mine. It’s a short sited policy and I’m hopeful that future management will change this soon.

The hotel look and feel is good but services sucks.. not consistent at all, may be it depends on the mood of the staff. Check in was crazy the girl took so much time to look for our booking, and kept asking the same questions even if I already showed them our booking confirmation from Agoda. Good thing the bellman interrupted and transferred us to another front office girl who was more accommodating, young and fast. Called he room services if we can have utensils brought to our room and the front office guy answered “oh, you have to come down at the front office to get it yourself, we don’t deliver to rooms unlike where you came from”. VERY RUDE! Their elevators don’t work well and will take so much time especially after 9pm as they only maintain 1 working elevator at night.
The room is very small, beds were comfortable though.
Good view but not really excellent at the breakfast area.
Breakfast served is fairly good and servers were nice.
Thanks but will not recommend because service customer service is really bad.
Location? Fair. But scary late at night.
Parking: NONE, they just affiliate to somewhere close but even bellman and front office don’t know where exactly

We have stayed at this hotel several times and have never had a bad experience. Check in is quick and efficient, rooms are clean, beds are comfortable, and we hear very little street noise. Black out curtains work well. At busy times the elevators can get a little backed up, but this is not usually much of a problem. Great location, friendly staff, easy parking in a garage on the same block. We usually keep the "do not disturb" sign on our door the entire trip because we don't feel the need to have our towels changed every day, but frequently we see housekeeping staff in the hallway and they always ask if we need anything in our room. Will definitely return.

Upon arrival they asked my 6yo her name, and said they had something special just for her. They gave her a paw patrol water bottle and she felt so special that they "knew she was coming." The rooms were clean, they had foosball and video games in the lobby. The housekeeper was so sweet, always offering to clean even when we told her we didn't need it. She insisted we let her know if we need anything. There were two separate elevators to get to your room, anyone off the street could get up to the lobby, but you had to have a room key to access your specific floor. There were always 2 employees down at the main entrance, but did not greet you, open the door and didn't seem to stop anyone asking for their room key. We were there for 10 days and couldn't figure out why they were there. We loved being in the theater district, it was close to times square and a subway. We would stay again.

Amazing! The Inn is just top-notch, equipped from head to toe with a bar, a restaurant on the reception level, a gym on the first floor and especially a rooftop (unfortunately paying). The rooms are very large and we have a just crazy view on time square with the shopping street you can stay there for hours in front of the window. Small weak point, the size of the beds is quite small and the beds near the windows hear the noise of the streets which makes sense considering the location. Everything is nearby central Park is 10min walk and time square 2min.

We stayed in the room with a view of Times Square and our experience was wonderful! The location is excellent, but not only that, I thought the hotel was great in terms of cleanliness of the rooms, sound insulation (you can't hear any noise from outside or from other rooms), decoration, amenities, security. We only contacted staff at check in/check out and in both situations the service was very friendly and resolute. It is really necessary to take two elevators to get to the rooms, but I never had to wait too long for access. Without a doubt I would return!
