The Hyatt Place New York/Chelsea is commended for its central location with easy subway access and safe surroundings, as well as its clean, modern ambiance. However, the hotel's rooms, while clean, are often criticized for being cramped and noisy, with some maintenance issues reported. Guests have experienced a mix of service quality, ranging from helpful staff to frustrations with slow elevators and inconsistent housekeeping. While amenities are modern, the value is questioned due to high costs and additional charges.

Gorgeous views, great beds, awesome location, good value, decent breakfast, decent gym.

However, as most people have pointed out, the hotel has about 500 rooms over ~50 floors. But only 4 small elevators, one of which was always down. You have to budget 15 minutes for your ride. I arrived middle of night so didn't realize until the morning how bad it is, and ended up 10 minutes late for my meeting. I also was heading to a wedding the next day and realized when I reached the lobby I forgot something important. I lost 30 minutes due to the lifts.

Over 4 nights, I prob spent 2+ hours waiting for elevators. Forget about going down to grab breakfast or for a quick workout before going back to shower - you would need to set aside 45 minutes (15/each way). Once you're lucky to get an elevator, you often stop at 10+ floors and have to tell people there is no room. Further, they use the guest elevators to transport huge bins of dirty (and clean) sheets and towels, so you're crammed in there. The hallways also have shelves of sheets in the middle, so when you figure out which elevator just opened you have to run with your bags around them. If someone were deaf or blind, I can't imagine how they would navigate this. The lifts are not close to one another, constantly chime even if they're not at your floor, and sometimes don't announce when they've arrived on the floor.

Too bad nice hotel with good value has a no-go design flaw.

Hyatt Place Chelsea is a 45 storey tower.
The entrance is on W 24th between 6th and 7th Ave (closer to 7th). I got there around 4 PM on a weekday. The lobby was on the small side. A few people were seated in chairs near the elevators. I did not see any other seating areas in the lobby.

I had already checked in online but I had to stop at the front desk to show my ID and credit card. They put a $100 hold on my credit card (apparently standard practice to cover “breakages” and “room charges”) which was refunded at checkout. My room was on the 6th floor but when I asked if a higher floor was available, they changed it to a room on the 21st floor with a view of the city over the rooftops.

The room was small (<200 sq ft). It had a king bed with small bedside tables on either side. There was no other furniture (I.e., no desk or dresser). Beside the bed there was a small cupboard which contained a safe and a minifridge and a larger cupboard with ironing board, iron and some hangars.

The bathroom was spartan but adequate - sink, minimal counter save, shower stall with shower curtain. For me, the best feature was the (almost) floor to ceiling window that occupied an entire wall. Through it, I was able to see the Empire State Building lit up at night. It also had blackout blinds (manually operated but way to pull up and down) and also a translucent shade.

There were four elevators. When I checked in, only two were working. They said technicians were working on the two non-functioning elevators (they were working a couple of hours later). The people at the desk warned me that the elevators can be slow during “rush hour”.

They serve a fairly sumptuous breakfast between 6:30 AM and 9:30 AM on weekdays (7:00 AM and 10:00 AM on weekends). Buffet style with hot items (scrambled eggs, bacon, small pancakes, oatmeal) and various cold items (fruit, yoghurt, various dry cereals, cold cuts, pastries, bread & bagels etc). There was a toaster to toast bread & bagels and a microwave tucked away in a corner. Beside the buffet area, there was an unexpectedly large seating area where one could sit at small tables and have breakfast. The staff that I met in the breakfast area were Spanish speakers with limited English. They were all very pleasant and helpful. The etiquette seemed to be that after eating, you put the used dishes and utensils in designated bins placed at one end of the room.

Checkout (which I had done online) at the front desk at 9:00 AM, was quick and efficient. They used the Curb app to call a cab and scanned a bar code into my phone.

One limitation was that they did not have water and ice machines in each floor. From the 21st floor, I had to go to the 25th floor to get water (necessary because the 2 small bottles of water in the room had large tags that said it was free for elite Hyatt members but all others would be charged $5 per bottle!).

In summary, I had a satisfactory overnight stay at Hyatt Place Chelsea.

We traveled to New York City with high expectations to explore its many attractions. Our stay at Hyatt Place/Chelsea offered a mix of positives and negatives. We booked a room with a king bed and a pullout sofa for our teenager, and we brought along our two dogs. Upon arrival, unloading was chaotic due to having to double park on the street during heavy rain. The luggage carts provided were small and inadequate, causing some of our belongings and dog food to scatter in the lobby. These luggage carts, often referred to as bellman carts, were not spacious enough to accommodate our luggage and other items effectively. The front desk ladies were friendly though and attempted to help as best as possible.

We were informed that we could park our vehicle in an offsite garage and get reimbursed through hotel validation. However, upon reaching the garage, we were turned away because of our full-size SUV. This led us to find parking ourselves through an app called SpotHero, costing us $300 for five days. It's worth noting that this hotel may not be suitable for families or groups of more than two guests.

On the positive side, the hotel's location is excellent, offering breathtaking views of the skyline and being within walking distance to many city attractions. The facility itself is modern, clean, and well-maintained, having been built in 2021.

The room size is understandably compact at 186 square feet, leaving us with minimal space, especially when the foldout bed was in use. We recommend packing as if you are going for an overnight stay rather than a 6-day stay to manage the limited storage space effectively. Additionally, the bathroom is extremely small and hard to maneuver, which can be challenging for some guests.

Safety concerns arose as we had to stack our belongings by the door, limiting our exit options in case of an emergency. Furthermore, when bringing the cart up stairs, a large rack blocked half of the hallway, preventing the cart with luggage from fitting through. This rack is continuously outside of the room and poses a hazard in case of emergency situations.

At a rate of $300+ per night, we expected a lot better in terms of room functionality, safety measures, and overall guest experience.

The breakfast included with our stay was decent but limited in variety, consisting of sausage links, yogurt, scrambled eggs, cereal, bagels, toast, juice, coffee, and fruits.

In summary, the hotel has its merits, particularly its prime location and modern facilities. However, improvements are urgently needed in parking accommodations, guest amenities, room and bathroom size, space management, and safety measures to better cater to families and larger groups, especially at the premium price point.

Really enjoyed the stay - the room was clean, and had a great view. The staff was warm and welcoming. The bar staff (Bryan Londono) was great and really personable. So conveniently located to a bunch of things to do. Would gladly stay again, whether on business or pleasure.

This is a great hotel with modern, clean New York-style rooms. It was very easy to get to from the 1-line station on 23rd street which also gives you plenty of travel options throughout the city. The lobby was tastefully appointed and the front desk employee was extremely welcoming and able to have me checked-in and on my way to my room within minutes. The rest of the staff that I interacted with was similarly friendly and helpful, especially Gary the General Manager. Some of the older hotels are harder to navigate with bad signage which was not a problem at this property.

Once in the room, the first thing I noticed was the awesome view of downtown. The bed and desk chair were very comfortable and while closet space was at a premium it easily handled everything I brought. The bathroom is hidden behind a sliding door at the foot of the bed and it is bright and spacious enough. The shower gets hot quickly and has very good water pressure.

Overall, I was very impressed with this new property and look forward to staying with them again.

I completed a wonderful stay here for my birthday. This special occasion was acknowledged with a handwritten card and celebratory drink voucher slipped under my door.

I am a World of Hyatt loyalist and checking in at the member’s desk was fast and efficient. My King room was on the 26th floor (there are a total of 46 floors) and as others have flagged, half of the four elevators are currently out of service. These elevators are modern with touchscreen buttons and have some of the highest ceilings so you won’t feel claustrophobic riding them. There is a gym that I didn't use in the basement. I was intrigued why there were so many French speaking guests.

My corner room had a direct view of the Empire State Building, One Vanderbilt, and Hudson Yards. Room size was cozy but on par with hotels in dense cities, like New York. Room décor was modern and I appreciated that there were plenty of convenient power sockets, including the USB outlets on both bed stands. The room and everything in it were in excellent condition. There was a refrigerator though no microwave; but one is available for common use on the second floor. Good toiletries, steady hot water, great water pressure, excellent shower head. The windows can open and I appreciated how sound proof they were after hearing how loud it is with them open. I appreciated the quietness and responsiveness of the climate control.

The free breakfast area on the ground floor is airy, light-filled and clean. There were varied food options that was constantly being replenished. The dining staff were constantly cleaning and very attentive.

It looks like there is an outdoor patio off the bar area on the 2nd floor but closed during my stay because it was unfinished (hotel opened 2 months ago).

During this Covid-era, cleanliness is very important. While the trend with hotels have been to cut back, they still had daily housekeeping at this hotel. All public areas were spotless.

Every one of the staff I encountered were helpful, courteous, and friendly. Like the front desk staff Dymin, Natalie, Tenzin; who enhanced my stay with their hospitality.

This location is close to three different metro stops and you can get to pretty much anywhere in Mahattan from those three stops. As always, free breakfast is an unbeatable amenity. This is also close to several eating joints that are open late and are reasonably priced. Make sure to try the $1 pizza store around the corner, or the Hill Country BBQ Turkey Club a couple of blocks away. Be aware, it is on an alley not a main street so you are headed in the correct direction even though you think there is no way a hotel would be on that small street. If you see the Motto you are headed in the right direction!

It was the worst high price hotel experience for a long time. I spoke to the reception three times but they didn't care and I don't need the hotel apologizing and blaming covid for everything, you should work on your standards.

We booked two rooms from 27th to 30th of December 2021.

1) rooms are tiny, don't have a shelf for our stuff not even a hook to hang wet coats or jackets. A/C makes noises, beds are okay. Bathroom small but nice and modern.

2) The breakfast was bad and even small city or family owned hotels offer better breakfast.

3) Bar and restaurant were closed (due to covid). All restaurants and bars in NY are open, following the given restrictions.

4) 2 out of 4 elevators didn't operate for all three days. In a hotel with 45 floors you easily wait 5 min and then stopping in each floor for people hopping on or off.

5) fitness center was under construction and didn't look welcoming.

All over a hotel which charges 200 - 300 a night, I expect a better maintenance level, more service and a stuff members who cares.

Hello L5881RKdanielb, Thank you for staying with us and for posting feedback. For the items that are in our control, we are working hard to improve. The hotel opened only 3 weeks ago, and unfortunately, we experienced a pipe bursting within the first week of operations. This took out half of the elevators, the fitness center, and numerous guest rooms. As we just opened, we were waiting on approval from NYC to open the bar, which we have finally received. And just this week, we implemented an improved breakfast, offering more of a variety. We are sorry that you disliked your stay. We hope that perhaps you will give us another shot, as we are working out the new construction kinks. Safe travels!

There are so many things to mention.
The rooms are small and the aircon is noisy.
Breakfast from 6-9 am. Why this timing? From 8.30 am don't even dream getting down quick with the lifts. At this time everyone is trying to come down for breakfast. I have waited 23 minutes for the lifts one morning. 45 floors, 10 rooms on each floor and there are 4 lifts(which staffs also use and they can over ride them). You do the maths! After the first day we gave up on breakfast. Not to mention the size of breakfast room. Good luck finding a table.
Nobody had an idea to extend breakfast hours instead of putting a poster in the lifts explaining how busy it gets during this hour?
We had an issue with the aircon during the night, at 4am decided to make an unbelievable sound. Went down to reception and make Shaun listen to the recording.
He agreed this room is not fit for the purpose so he told us to pack up, wake the kids up and come down 20 floors so he can see we left the room and then he can gave me the keys for an other room on the 21th floor (one floor higher than my original room). He clearly has no understanding of what packing involves. It would have taken me hours. I suggested that he gave the key for the room on floor above so I can just move my stuff bit by bit without packing everything into the suitcases. HE REFUSED the only sensible solution at 4 am. Me and my husband had no sleep for that night. Next day an engineer came to fix the problem which solved the issue for an other two days before the noise started again. Front desk staff understood my frustration of packing up and agreed to gave me the keys for the other room so I can move by belongings bit by bit until Shaun butted in and he over ruled her decision. I needed to call the manager who said I can move whatever way I want and sent the bellboy with the trolley to help.
Shaun is an unpleasant , unkind person who lacks of empathy which is a vital quality of the front desk staff. Elaine in the other hand is everything Shaun is not.
Really Hyatt?

The location is perfect, because the 23rd station is a two-minute walk away, the room was cleaned daily and the breakfast was full American style. The wifi has good speed and for the price it is really very good, I could definitely repeat it, we went with a child under 12 years old and without any problems. And there was no noise in the room, we slept well, the view was incredible, we were on the 22nd floor
