Nestled in the heart of the city, Hyatt Herald Square New York garners applause for its spotless rooms and modern charm, with the rooftop bar's stunning vistas being a particular highlight, despite a few remarks about the food selection and missing coffee makers. The hotel's prime location is celebrated by guests for its proximity to local attractions and transport.
While views on value diverge, the warm atmosphere and commendable staff contribute to a pleasant stay. However, the coziness of the rooms receives mixed feedback regarding space and contemporary appeal.

Detailed Reviews
The stay was for 11 nights at the Hyatt Herald Square for two weeks of in-person meetings in NYC. We chose the hotel due to its location (walking distance to meeting location) and good value vs. other hotels we considered in the area.
The staff was very attentive and helpful throughout the stay. Some of the amenities are still somewhat limited such as food service say an open rooftop bar would have been nice but the lobby bar had good drinks and snacks.

We had a good time staying here in late July for four nights, and got it for a super cheap deal, but we booked it in early March when everything was still shut down. It was near many train stops, and we did grab food one night from the hotel’s restaurant, and it was good. They let you order food and drinks and take it up to the rooftop area because the bar up there is currently still closed. There is an amazing view of the Empire State Building up there! The staff at the downstairs bar/restaurant were super nice. We ordered an early morning taxi to JFK from the hotel and that worked out well for us. Unfortunately, there was another couple who also ordered a taxi the same morning that we left, and it never showed up, so you may want to double check with the front desk that the taxi is confirmed.

Excellent hotel located in proximity to Penn station and the fashion district.
Hotel check in was quick and painless. You are emailed when your room is ready if you arrive early. You can have the hotel hold your bags for you.
Our room was located on the 9th floor - room 905 tucked away in a 4 room corner quad not one sound on the floor. It was silent. We were there for 2 nights. We had a king room. Comfortable bed, extra pillows and blankets as requested were placed in room.
Room had a mini fridge, single cup coffee maker, Starbucks coffee and tea, safe, etc. flat screen tv.
Bathroom was modern with rain shower head-strong water pressure and nice hot water.
We ordered pizza from Joe’s and had it delivered no issues at all.

+1
I had a quick stay at Hyatt Herald Square, for only one night I did not mind too much, overall I found the hotel to be mediocre in pretty much all regards without a lot that stood out positively or negatively. Given the large number of choices in the city, while nothing was unacceptable, I doubt I would come back.
The price tag at this hotel is not that low to begin especially considering that the rooms are small at 18-20 sqm, but strangely there is sometimes a material price difference between the entry level room which I booked, and the room with city view, which is what I was told I was upgraded to as Hyatt Globalist guest. While I was on a high floor which possibly helped to limit the street noise from the room, honestly the only thing I could see outside my room was the building in front so it is questionable why someone would want to pay a lot of money extra for that view, anyway it was an upgrade so no complaints. While soundproofing from the street was decent, from the hallway it was less so. The bathroom was ok but not great, thankfully it had a stand-alone shower not a tub, but it was not a rain shower and nothing fancy; also the toilet did not flush properly. They had Pharmacopia bathroom amenities like many Hyatt Regency hotels.
In the (small) bedroom there was a mix of carpet and floor tiles, I think if they did away entirely with the carpet it would be better. There were convenient power plugs on both sides of the bed and the bed itself was reasonably comfortable, but the air conditioning hidden behind a panel was very loud. I also noticed they lacked a “do not disturb” sign, nobody knocked on my door at an inopportune time but it should be an easy fix.
Similar to the room, breakfast was nothing to write home about, it was entirely continental with no hot food, overall quite underwhelming. I only grabbed a fruit cup and a yogurt with granola.
Overall I struggle to find strong points to this hotel, although it did not have any unacceptable issues worth complaining about either. The rooms were small even for NYC standards, Globalist upgrades are unlikely to result in a more spacious room, my room did not really have a view despite the name, nothing from the room was luxurious or wowed me, breakfast was forgettable, and all of this at a price point which is not that cheap. Personally I don’t see the appeal to return.

I have stayed here several times in the last few years and have had a consistently good experience. The staff is engaging and responsive and while the rooms are not spacious, they are clean and comfortable. The location is convenient for subways, buses and taxis with a variety of good restaurant selections within walking distance. Other than enjoying a light breakfast and an occasional evening snack, often in the rooftop lounge, I don't spend much of my day time in the hotel. However, I have been comfortable with the way the hotel has adapted the services throughout the pandemic. Each of the 6+ Hyatt locations that I have stayed at in Manhattan have been positive and unique in their own way. The Hyatt Herald Square is the location that I have chosen to return to most often.

I like the location of this hotel, the appearance was nice staff was very friendly. I chose this hotel because they had queen size beds. Unfortunately these were the hardest most uncomfortable beds I have ever had in a hotel. The pillows were flat and worthless, me and my teenage daughters left with body pains. If you like hard beds then this is the place for you, if you want something soft and comfortable I cannot recommend this hotel.

I recently stayed at the Hyatt Herald Square with my family for a graduation event and had such a positive experience! The staff members, notably the front desk staff and bar staff were so welcoming and helpful. Notably, Judy at the front desk helped check us in and her commitment to customer service was bar none. Given we had our stay on two reservations, Judy was able to seamlessly get my family checked into the rooms while I was stuck in transit. In addition, Rachel at the front desk provided an easy and seamless check-out experience. The rooms themselves are small, but are well equipped for your needs and we had daily housekeeping (a service that seems to have gone downhill at many other establishments due to COVID). Lastly, the rooftop was amazing! Beautiful views and more than enough space, most of the time it felt like we had a private roof to ourselves and enjoyed morning coffee or lunch under one of the cabanas. Thank you to the staff for making our stay so pleasant!

Hyatt Herald Square is located in a great location with a ton of restaurants and stores within a 2-minute walk. It's also close to the Path and Subway stations. The hotel staff is super nice and friendly and very helpful. They have good safety protocols so you don't have to worry about random people walking into the hotel. Everything worked as expected in the room for me. The gym is small but has all of the essentials for a quick workout. If you drive into the city, they have valet parking so you don't have to find your own parking garage.

Most of the other hotels I stayed at during my trip were a little cheaper, but were a lot worse. I wasn't too disappointed with my stay at the Hyatt, though obviously there were some cuts.
The rooms had modern decor, which I was into. The view sucked as I just saw other buildings. The rooms were pretty tiny - after I opened my luggage rack, I had about 8 inches of walking space.
The keys were not tap - you had the key them in. They also do not work properly. I had to replace mine twice as I was not able to open the lobby door to get in with my key. The front doors are locked at all times because of interesting characters outside, but perhaps the most annoying part of it was that the concierge did not have a button on their side to open the door. They had to stop helping whoever they were currently engaged with and walk over to the other side of the door to wave it open. This was the most inefficient thing I've ever seen at a hotel.
As I was working remotely on this trip, I was a little annoyed at a few things. First, I could hear my neighbors talking as they were also working remotely. Second, the wifi on my phone kept disconnected for some reason. The chair provided had no back support - it was essentially a stool.
Overall, the stay was okay.

If you're coming from JFK, you can go right from the terminal to the AirTrain to Jamaica Station, where you can transfer to the Long Island Railroad which will take you to Penn Station in NYC. It's just a two block walk from the exit of Penn station on 7th Avenue to the hotel. The total fee for the AirTrain ($8) and the LIRR ($7.75 at off peak times and $10.75 at peak) comes to under $20.
If you're coming from Newark airport - it's similar. Take the AirTrain from the terminal to the airport rail station and then take a New Jersey Transit commuter train (not an Amtrak train) to Penn Station New York (ticket costs $15.50, but there are discounts for seniors, disables, military and children) Be aware though - just to confuse everyone - there are two Pennsylvania stations - the first one you would come to is Penn Station Newark - don't get off there, but stay on the train until the final stop at Penn Station New York.
As to the weather - there is just no way to predict. I would anticipate chilly, but the way it's been recently all bets are out the window. Have a great time!
