We recently stayed at The Carvi, now called the Blue Angel, for a long weekend in NYC. This small boutique hotel is very well located on 55th and Lexington, an easy walk or cab ride to Central Park, the Met and other attractions. This hotel is quite affordable for the area. Our room was clean and comfortable. What really sets this property apart is its excellent customer service. Highly recommend.

Great hotel, great location, lovely staff. Room was the largest hotel room we have stayed in so far in New York. Modern and clean. Great location, only a block or two from the subway. Front office staff were always friendly and we really enjoyed our stay.

This was our fourth visit to New York and we’ve stayed in a variety of locations, all very good and the Carvi or should I say The Blu Angel is no exception. Upon our arrival late Monday the 19th of September were given a warm welcome by the ever so lovely and extremely helpful Mara. There is a snacks fridge in your room, in the lobby of the hotel you can help yourself to as many coffees as your body will allow. The room was neat and very tidy, the air con was excellent and the location of the hotel was pretty central to what we wanted. Enjoy your stay and don’t forget, if you need assistance, Mara is an utter joy to deal with.

Loved this hotel - great location for getting around - close to the main attractions - felt 100% safe getting around - friendly and very helpful reception staff who were great helping us plan our time in New York - spacious family room with a mini fridge which was filled daily with soft drinks and snacks - hot drinks available to self serve in reception which was great - lovely little outdoor seating area on floor 7 to sit and relax - highly recommend this hotel :-)

I stayed here alone for two nights. I had a patio room in the basement/ground level, and it was super quiet. There are only a few rooms on the ground level, and there was a door between the two patio rooms and the rest of the floor. The patio is small and dark - you can only see a sliver of sky between the buildings - so even on a sunny day it is dark. But it is still a very nice spot to get some private fresh air in the middle of NYC. Room is small. A previous reviewer was upset that they had reserved this room and were upgraded to a bigger one, but they were two adults and a toddler, and I do not think three people and the gear needed for a toddler would fit in this room. Also, the shower is small, and there is no bathtub. The only place to sit is the bed and one kitchen type chair. There is no closet, just a small wardrobe. However, everything is very clean and well-maintained. There are nice touches like flowers and a small refrigerator plus snacks in the room that are included in the room price, so you don't have to worry about being charged exorbitant prices if you are hungry late at night and eat one of the snacks. The bath towels are the biggest and thickest I have ever seen in a hotel, even much fancier ones. The towels are fantastic, and you can easily dry yourself with one. The only problem is that they are so thick that they may not be dry by the next day. I had to ask for another one, which the front desk happily provided. The furniture on both the patio and the 7th floor rooftop deck is not very comfortable, but it is fine for spending a few minutes and these spaces are nice to have in a hotel. Location is great. I usually stay near Penn Station, but now that I know that the hotel is right around the corner from the E train, which goes right to Penn, I will stay at this hotel again. It is also a short walk to Central Park. Eateries are a lot more plentiful and affordable than they are further north, but you still have the quiet of a residential neighborhood. The Asian bun place next door was very good. I also discovered a window service place, Carole's Cafe nearby. You need to take the food to go, but it is located in a little oasis with tables and a waterfall! But the best thing about the hotel, and the reason I am giving it 5 stars, was the staff. Every single person was friendly and helpful with no stiffness like in bigger hotels. Any question - whether it be where to eat alone nearby or discounts at local museums - was enthusiastically answered. Everyone had a smile, even though I know this has been a very tough few years for people working in the hotel industry. Kudos to them. I will definitely look to stay there again, especially if I am traveling alone.

We had a wonderful weeklong stay at the Carvi. It is a small, inexpensive boutique hotel located at 55th & Lexington. If your base is Midtown East, the location is perfect. It's a quick walk to Grand Central and Central Park. The rooms are clean, the beds very comfy & the noise level really low for NYC. There's also a sweet little terrace on the 7th floor to relax and enjoy a cocktail after a day of playing in the city. The staff are wonderful too. Mara was especially friendly and helpful.

The lobby and rooms were clean and had modern styling. The bathroom has marginally adequate counter space, and the shower stall was about two-thirds the width of what I am accustomed to. The beds were comfortable. The room had a small desk, sufficient for remote work. Admittedly, I was a bit disappointed on arrival that the lobby was so small. There's room for about four persons to sit, which is adequate if you're waiting for someone. The seventh-floor terrace closes at 10 p.m., so we mostly used it in the morning. A shade structure would be greatly appreciated because the morning sun shines directly on the terrace. The location is excellent, as mid-block 55th Street is quiet at night but puts you within quick walking distance of four subway stations (63rd & Lexington, 59th & Lexington, 53rd & Lexington, and 51st & Lexington) serving several lines (Q, F, N, R, W, 4, 5, 6, E, M). The staff was very polite and helpful.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The location is wonderful, but out of the hustle and bustle of Times Square. Staff are very pleasant and offered advice when sked. No tea/coffee in the rooms, but there is a stand in reception to help yourself and make your own. Nice small and cosy roof top to enjoy, no bar or restaurant at this hotel though. Spacious room considering its NYC but basic. I would return and recommend if you want a cheap but comfortable stay.
