The Standard Hotel in the East Village is an absolute gem! The reception staff is welcoming and professional. Our room was comfortable and clean and when I say clean, I mean spotless! The Garden restaurant is charming with great food. There are 2 subway stops a short walk away making it easy to get around the city. Highly recommend!!

I took my son to nyc for his 10th birthday. This hotel had everything we needed and wanted and even left him a little treat in our room to celebrate his 10th! I asked for the room with a tub and 2 beds and I loved having a bathrobe to wear while getting ready for the day and night.

I was in charge of planning a trip for a group of 10. The Standard East Village was in the best location and had the best rate compared to other hotels. I booked this hotel based on it’s accessibility to great restaurants, coffee shops, stores and night life.
I had to call The Standard twice, mainly for peace on my end, regarding some things about checking our luggage before our rooms were ready and various details of our reservation. Both times I spoke to representatives, not only were they extremely helpful - they are so KIND. I’m from the south, and I’m used to southern hospitality, but these customer service reps were so nice!
Upon arrival to The Standard East Village, my herd was able to drop our bags and hit the ground running in a matter of minutes. The team welcomed us with warm smiles and patience, as we had just made it into the city after getting off a flight and were a little disoriented. They didn’t miss a beat, taking our luggage, giving us water, and recommending things to do while we waited for our rooms.
Once our rooms were ready, we met evening manager, Sha. Sha made sure our entire group knew the ins and outs of the hotel. Sha also quickly became my favorite person because, for the remainder of the weekend, she addressed us all by name anytime she saw us. That’s 10 people! And that’s just my party, she had a whole hotel!
The rooms were better than I pictured. The views of the city were amazing, and there was plenty of space. Upon returning to our room one day, I noticed a note from Sha and the team. We were there to celebrate a birthday and Sha had given all 10 of us a voucher for a drink at the hotel cafe. One night, a couple of us wanted to go out to a lounge. Sha had great recommendations (I asked for very specific ones and she didn’t even have to stop and think) and was still there when we returned to the hotel, ready to welcome us and ask us how our night was.
I could go on and on, truthfully. And I was only there for 4 days. In New York, a hotel room is easier to find than a friendly face. The Standard East Village had everything and more. To Sha and the team, thank you all so much for making this weekend memorable. All 10 of us couldn’t stop raving about how incredible your service was. Some people don’t need to be in hospitality - but you guys are right where you need to be. You made us feel at home, and we can’t wait to come back!

WARNING: Do not book this hotel unless you want to risk terrible room conditions and extremely dishonest customer service. I am a travel agent who recently booked a Corner King Room for a client at The Standard, East Village for a quite expensive $900/night. The hotel's website advertises this room as being special because of its expansive views. However, instead he found a construction site complete with noisy workers on it, mere feet from his bed. (Photos attached.) This meant zero privacy for him unless he kept his curtains closed the whole time and it also meant that he was woken up by machinery both mornings. In turn, hotel management has pretended and continues to pretend that they know nothing about this construction, which is most certainly impossible/a lie and whereas at first, they offered a 20% discount off of the stay due to the complaint I filed, they have since walked it back to 10%. They shouldn’t even be booking this room (505) for anyone presently and certainly not, at an upcharge for the views. Please be careful if considering this hotel for yourself or clients of your own. For me, their dishonest and unprofessional customer service has left a bad taste in my mouth even worse than that of the room condition.

Having stayed at The Standard in London, had high hopes about my stay in NYC. I wish I’d read the other poor reviews, as I was in for a shock.
I asked when booking for a quiet room away from the elevator. When I arrived at the front desk and checked in, the lady on the front desk disappeared for a few mins and came back with a big grin telling me she’d found me a special room.
Only when I got up to the sixth floor did I find out it was exactly opposite the elevator. And when I got in the room, I realised how paper thin the walls are at this hotel, and that not only could I hear it every time to doors to the elevator opened, but I could also hear conversations of the people in the adjoining room and the footsteps and furniture scrapping in the room above. The very noisy air con mentioned in other reviews sounds like it’s in serious need of a service. At least it distracts from the continuous noise of the elevator and doors to the other rooms slamming.
Unfortunately there was little sympathy from the front desk team when I went down to chat to them. I offered to upgrade and pay the difference, but they said the only other rooms available were in that same room opposite the elevator on higher floors. A guy from the office came out, shrugged and said the hotel isn’t for everyone. So I booked into the Ludlow instead, which is different class in terms of soundproofing, size of room and decor and the service level of the team. It’s not that more expensive, so I wish I’d booked there initially instead.
Trying to see if I could get my money back for that first night’s stay I didn’t use, it then took three days for someone from The Standard to finally call me back, having called once a day to try and get hold of a manager to chat to (one wasn’t at the hotel when I had checked in initially on a Monday afternoon). When Kimberly finally called back she at least acknowledged they should have mentioned the noise issues when I booked, but said they didn’t think a refund was appropriate. Kimberly said I could come in and speak to their Guest Experience Manager, but sadly when I did later that afternoon it turned out to be Matt, the person I’d spoken to on the first day. His refrain is the hotel isn’t for everyone and there’s nothing they can do about the penalty for late cancellation, even where the room isn’t fit for purpose. When I asked whether there was anyone else I could speak to who would have more discretion to find a reasonable outcome, he threatened to call security and I promptly left.
Whilst there’s not much they can do about the soundproofing at this stage and they’re unlikely to upgrade their air con, a shame their service level is so poor and adversarial. That seems to be a running theme in other of the reviews. Not sure if it’s poor training or an attitude higher up at the hotel, Looking through their responses to other posts, I see the customer is rarely right if the feedback isn’t positive.
Hope they read some of these reviews with an open mind and see how they can improve their customer service and be more upfront about their soundproofing issues. I won’t be coming back to find out!

Hotel was amazing. The cafe downstairs is cute and the food is delicious. The hotel itself is beautiful, very chic fun vibe but still upscale. Elevator is IG worthy. We ordered room service for breakfast (avocado toast with salmon, an almond croissant and coffee) and it was so fresh. We will stay again.

We stayed here at the end of a New England cruise in order to watch the Village Halloween parade. (A must see event) The hotel is very comfortable with seating and desk areas in the rooms and walk in showers. Everything was very clean and I found very quiet my room had a great view of Manhattan. The hotel restaurant and bar is vibrant and we spent quite a bit of time there but the restaurants in the local area were more attractive for dinners out. Walking distance to Katz and if you have not had that experience you need to go.

Fabulous home away from home! Danny and his warm and friendly team ensure your every need is met! These people are seriously awesome and fun and you will love them!!
We love eating our meals in the treed courtyard or in the lovely restaurant where you can sit inside or out. The menu is varied, the food delicious and well priced and the atmosphere is cozy and warm.
The hotel has done a great job keeping the hotel spic and span, hand sanitizers aplenty and proof of vaccination is required to eat in the restaurants.
The location and proximity to NYU is an absolute bonus. We moved our daughter into her dorm in September and literally rolled her bags from the hotel. The hotel nicely stored her extra luggage until move in so her room was not cluttered!
The hotel rooms are bright, the pillows and beds extra comfortable and we love the well stocked frig in the room! We also enjoyed using the gym across the street and picked up free passes at the front desk.
We will continue to stay at the Standard and are looking forward to returning to NYC for Parent’s Wkd. Book now! You will not be disappointed!!

I have been traveling to NYC for business for many, many years, so have realistic expectations on size of rooms, noise, etc. This was my first stay at the Standard-was there for almost a week.
The staff at the front desk is lovely. Always greeted me with a smile and seemed genuinely interested in making my stay great. The property itself however was massively disappointing.
I rejected the first room (which I never do) as it smelled strongly of mold and something else that was unidentifiable. Moved to a second room (which was smaller). The room wasn't terribly clean, the layout was very, very challenging (desk lamp didn't work, desk chair a torture device, lighting in the bathroom like a nightclub). The HV/AC was malfunctioning, so the room generally stayed arctic for the duration of my stay. The carpets look like they hadn't been vacuumed in ages. There was no iron or ironing board in the room, and one of the outlets in the bathroom didn't work. Annoying most times, but at $700/night? Maddening.
The capper was the restaurant. The staff apparently willfully ignores customers so they can chat, and the food (when it finally arrived) was ordinary at best.
The hotel should stop spending so much effort on shouting about how cool it is and channel that energy into things like cleaning the rooms and replacing the lighting.

Trentykins, Thank you for this five-star review! It's great you got to experience both NYC Standard hotels during you visit. Thanks for the shout out to Nia. I agree, she does an amazing job going above and beyond for our guests. Our rooms really do have some amazing views of the city and I'm glad you got to take that in during your stay. The mushroom garden is definitely unique and adds to our cafe. We are excited to be your go to spot when coming back to the city. See you soon.

It’s actually the other way around. It’s called the penthouse, but is actually a large entertainment space including outdo areas with fabulous views of Manhattan. It’s also a popular entertainment space, so you may not always have access to it. Otherwise, just take the elevator and enjoy.
Hello David,
We will be happy to welcome you and your family. For our family we usually recommend connecting rooms or to book one of our Corner Double rooms which comes with two full size beds.
See you soon!
Franck
We stayed in a corner king room on the fifteenth floor and it was perfectly quiet. The panoramic view, while facing west and north, had spectacular southern exposure as well.
The staff is impeccable and they anticipate your needs with expedient enthusiasm.
Mommakirby, While this amenity is not yet standard in every room, we understand the commodity of having coffee at your fingertips. We do offer a drip coffee setup by La Colombe in our Downtown Studio category rooms. Don't hesitate to ask our Guest Services team for anything you may need. We will always do our best to accommodate your requests! Best, David Lopez
