The Whitby Hotel is my favorite hotel especially when traveling as a solo female. Small and intimate. Everyone addresses me by my first name as requested. Victor and Tony attentive and helpful. Victor (my favorite) gave me a tour of the hotel including the owner’s suite and the private movie theatre downstairs. Restaurant/bar is pricey but lovely. Fell in love with the panna cotta and the house made burrata cheese. Lunch first day for soup, salad, dessert and cocktail was $125. Louis, Manny at desk and Otto as bellman were great wait. Waiter Marco and Carlos welcomed me by name and talked about foods, unique art collection, and the city. Head waiter Pedro was welcoming and Katherine-General mgr stopped by to inquire about my stay and offered me a glass of champagne. Walking distance to theatre district. Rooms are impeccably clean. Hotel is quiet. Housekeeping is quietly attentive of when your room is available to clean. 24 hour room service is wonderful and flexible.
There are hotels that are far cheaper but none with the extras that are standard at the Whitby. It has spoiled me for other hotels in NYC. Despite the price I will try to return.

Another lovely stay at my second home in New York.

Nice welcome and a cute little gift with a personalised note in my room, I love it when hotels recognise you like this.

All staff were great, as usual. Dark haired lady behind the bar at night and the long haired chap who delivered room service in the morning deserve a mention. Breakfast staff were all so friendly and nothing to much trouble.

Room was bright, large and spotlessly clean and the bed, as ever was big and comfortable.

My only issue, everyday I ordered room service items were missing, basic things like cups, tea strainer and even items of food and drink, was irritating having to call back down and wait another 15 minutes, especially based on the cost and tray charge. If you could fix that you’d be perfect in every way.

Saying that... I’m booked to see you again in April.

We spent four nights at this hotel and it was the only time in our New York history where we did not have to sleep with our ear plugs and get woken up constantly. Our room number 608 was off the main hallway and never did we hear another guest or hotel staff person. While the room view is of the alley behind the hotel, the benefit is that you don’t hear any traffic, sirens or pedestrian activity and it’s remarkably peaceful and a nice break from the hectic city. The rooms and common areas are impeccably and pointed and maintained. If you happen to be here for a conference, the facilities in the basement are uniquely decorated and exquisite. The adjacent Whitby restaurant and bar also is excellent as we had breakfast, post theater and dinner there with wonderful experiences all around.

We stayed here for a weekend meetup with friends. The hotel is beautifully decorated, and is perfectly located. It was also quiet considering the midtown location. However, it felt expensive for what it was (though we know that prices are inflated throughout the city).

The biggest issue there is the laughably bad restaurant service. We had lunch and a breakfast there. A quick lunch of one course ended up taking two hours. Breakfast was even worse. My husband ordered hash browns and oatmeal and I got the continental breakfast. The first thing that arrived at our table was the hash brown, before we even got coffee or plates. My husband ate the hash brown on his little bread plate. They never even noticed. We got our coffee ten minutes later after we asked about it twice, another 20 minutes went by before we got the rest of our breakfast. We know that there is a service shortage throughout the country, but given the prices they are taking from guests, they should be able to afford better trained staff.

The restaurant was so bad that we ordered our breakfast in our room on the second day just to avoid it.

We stayed at the Whitby for 4 nights over NYE. The hotel is in a great location, close enough to the action but set back enough that you can avoid times square if you wish.
The hotel is beautifully designed, and our room was equally gorgeous with a very comfortable bed. It was also surprisingly quiet considering the location.
Our only comment is that it would be great if there were tea and coffee making facilities in the room and our first day we found an false eyelash in the bathroom. However, this was quickly sorted by the staff who sent a complimentary fruit and drinks as an apology.
Other than this we would definitely stay at the Whitby again when we next return to NY.

The hotel is beautiful, everything about the hotel is beautiful. My phone calls arranging the rooms were so easy, the reservationists go above and beyond to help. We arrived a hour before check in and they welcomed us and took our bags and showed us to the restaurant until our room was ready which was only a short time after we arrived. The turn down service each night was so nice with the waters and pillow spray bottles. Hand written notes were left in our room to welcome each of us. It’s a wonderful location, the beds are heavenly and the rooms are quiet. We look forward to returning when we’re in the city.

We just spent a few days at the Whitby and I think we have our new favorite NYC hotel. The room (one of their smaller rooms) was clean, modern, and well sized. Soft sheets.
The bathroom was terrific -- great shower layout, strong water pressure, US style towel heater, etc. Great closet space with fun but useful lighting. The downstairs jazz bar/restaurant was a delight. The after hours room behind reception (with an honor bar) was a terrific addition.

This hotel, like the others in the Firmdale chain, is charmingly decorated, extraordinarily fresh and clean and a delight to stay in.
The room itself was quite comfortable with a very large bathroom; It had a wall of windows, so it was full of light and generally very thoughtfully designed. The public spaces, the bar/restaurant and the library are just as pleasant to be in. The staff is first-rate and the quality of our stay exceeded that of just about any hotel experience we've ever had. The art collection is whimsical and uplifting. Just a lovely place to be.

The Whitby hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff were amazingly attentive, friendly, professional and helpful. The entire hotel is welcoming, inviting and so whimsical. I highly recommend this hotel especially because of its perfect location. The rooms are crisp and well thought out. Even the solid doors are quiet when shutting. Housekeeping does an excellent job and have everything you need at a moment’s notice. Thanks for such an enjoyable visit. We will be back!

The Whitby Hotel, Manhattan, is more than a hotel. It's an experience. The hotel is beautiful and reflects the work of the owner/interior designer. There seemed to be no end to the interesting art, china, tapestries, wall coverings, furniture and collections of books. The rooms are impeccably clean and include twice daily housekeeping visits. The bathrooms are bright with lights and the beds include Frette linens. What really sets this hotel apart is the friendly and attentive staff. After checking in we received welcome notes from the head housekeeper, head concierge and the general manager along with a box of delicious chocolates. The front desk and concierge staff that included Frederick, Victor, Manny, Tony and Jerry were professional, friendly and helpful. They assisted us with tickets, maps, subway travel, taxis, restaurants and recommendations for sites we might enjoy. Victor even remembered our names. After 6 days, it was difficult to leave The Whitby Hotel.

Most rooms are king bedded but I believe that they can accommodate 2 twin beds in some room categories. I would check directly with the hotel for more specific information.
