In his most famous work, Childhood and Society, celebrated psychologist Erik Erikson notes, “Those with the best places to stay in probably travel most.” It’s pure speculation, but the former Harvard professor may have had XV Beacon in mind when he penned this insight. You can travel the world, but will find few boutique hotels with the same dedication to personalized service and executing on the details for the guests lucky enough to stay in one of XV Beacon’s 63 rooms. Details like Krug in the mini bar. Details like a choice of six different types of bath salts. Details like an embossed linen cloth placed beneath slippers so one’s bare feet need never touch the thick, spotless carpet. Though my stay at XV Beacon was BP (Before Pandemic) in February 2020, the experience remains fresh in my mind due to it being my last business trip before a year of COVID-created house arrest. I almost didn’t stay at XV Beacon at all. In fact, I almost stayed at the Marriott Long Wharf due to its close proximity to my meeting, but as luck would have it, rates were through the roof due to a large Biogen conference being held there at the same time. This same two-day conference would end up being one of the original COVID-19 superspreader events, infecting over 20,000 in the Boston area and eventually thought to be responsible for spawning 330,000+ infections across the world. Remember this when you next weigh a choice between staying at a hotel with 63 keys vs. 400+ rooms and 20,000 square feet of meeting space. The hard product at XV Beacon is great –- high thread count sheets and thirsty towels on heated towel racks, in-room FrancisFrancis! espresso machines and Harman/Kardon sound systems, electronic ignition fireplaces and dedicated work, relaxation and sleeping areas. But what really sets the hotel apart is the service. No request is too large... or too small. XV Beacon delivers intimate personalized service in the way big luxury brands aspire to emulate, but simply cannot because of their size, scale and infrastructure. Take for example the redoubtable and indefatigable Miriam –- checking in guests arriving in the evening at the front desk and then staffing the concierge function with equal alacrity the following morning. Whatever brings you to Boston, the staff of XV Beacon will assure that your stay is optimal. The embedded restaurant Mooo is technically a steakhouse but there are plenty of alternative options for non-carnivores. Eat, drink and be merry in a socially distanced, responsible fashion. I must confess I had a bit of a double take at breakfast that recalled a scene in the HBO masterpiece "Succession." In episode 6 of the second season, the Roy family make their way to the fictional lodge retreat “Argestes” (actually filmed in the Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid, NY) to close a deal. Scion Kendall Roy orders a Cobb Salad for lunch that arrives… along with the check for $75. My breakfast a Mooo consisted of one bowl of McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, a glass of grapefruit juice and a cappuccino… and a bill for $35.56. I should have opted for the minibar Krug instead. As I gulped hard and started to add a gratuity, I noticed that a 20% service charge and 7% tax had already been added to arrive at the princely sum for perhaps the world’s most humble food: oats. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced an included service charge – that was not noted by the waiter – for a solo restaurant breakfast. Goodness knows the restaurant and hotel industry has suffered enough over the course of this pandemic to begrudge anyone making a big markup, but the failure to point out the included service charge was a notable oversight. Still, when your travel plans take you to Boston, give XV Beacon a try. Chances are you’ll be back. And did I mention the Krug?…
Hands down, without a doubt, the BEST Hotel and Restaurant called MOO, in not only Boston, but I would definitely have to say almost anywhere in the world! The incredible service and individual client care was truly impressive. I needed a ride- and like magic I was taken to my destination in a beautiful black luxury sedan. I requested an extra side dish for our incredible brunch in our gorgeous cozy room with a fireplace and again like magic it appears! Lastly, but most definitely not least, we met the GM, Amy, and I was sooo impressed by her memory of us and previously visiting- she took the time out of what I’m sure is a very busy day to greet us and treat us to a glass of Prosecco- we were so touched! Now that is top notch creme de la creme!!
I cannot say enough about this hotel. As Boston residents, we wanted to mark a special birthday and sure enough this hotel captured our hearts in a matter of minutes! the experience is priceless, perfect for an intimate getaway. The staff is outstanding in every way possible. Having traveled around the world, this is by far the best hotel experience I have ever had, Your won't be disappointed in anyway!
I whisked my husband away for his birthday and our first stay at a hotel during COVID. While a little nervous, all of my worries quickly disappeared when we arrived and saw the extensive COVID protocols in place. We were upgraded to an amazing room (no view however). The room was cozy and perfect, hence my title. As it was only about 10 degrees outside, we stayed in the room by the fireplace for a lot of the trip. We ordered room service from MOOO and it was absolutely delicious. The best part of our stay, however was the service. From the moment we checked in until we checked out, we received fantastic and personal service and felt like we were the only ones in the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel for the service, rooms and location.
I booked this hotel for my husbands birthday weekend. Best decision ever! The staff made everything so easy and were so accommodating. With Covid we were super excited to get out of the house and they let us check in early. Wow! It gets better. We even received a room upgrade and were able to book the fitness room just for us and were driven to we needed to go in the hotel car. I emailed a couple days prior to arrival to see if they could surprise my husband upon arrival by delivering whiskey to the room. The emailed me an extensive list to choose from and delivered whiskey as well as birthday cake. The room was beautiful and we loved the in room service from Mooo for dinner and breakfast. Super Covid safe protocols. Loved the disinfecting machines in each floor, pre wrapped remotes, silverware etc. I cannot thank everyone enough for making his birthday so special. We will be back…
