Set in the heart of Boston, The Newbury Boston garners high praise for its excellent location, amid the buzz of Newbury Street's shopping and attractions. Guests have called out the opulent amenities, including a well-equipped gym and a rooftop restaurant with breathtaking views, though some feel the premium cost of food and extras leaves the value for money open to debate.
The hotel boasts modern, immaculate rooms; however, a few visitors mention soundproofing could be improved. The service at The Newbury is often described as exemplary, with a staff committed to guest satisfaction and an atmosphere of comfort and luxury.

One of the best stays we've had in a long time. The staff, the accomodations, and location are all 5 stars. We originally booked a classic suite, which turned out to be rather dark with views of a brick wall, so we upgraded to a park view suite which was well worth the price. The room was bright, spacious and very well appointed and had wonderful views of the park. The bed was very comfortable, as was the large sectional in the living room. The bathroom was very nice, though very small. We brought our dog and everyone from the valets to the front desk staff. was very friendly and welcoming to our pup. We enjoyed room service every day for breakfast and also had a few meals in the dog-friendly guest lounge and the service and food were both excellent. We appreciated the free waters/sparkling waters available in the lounge all day. The hotel is close to lots of shopping and restaurants on Newbury, Boylston and Beacon Hill, and the proximity to the park was very convenient for walking the dog.

This was hands down one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Everything from the location, to the cleanliness of the room and hotel, to the excellent staff and food was excellent. The gym was also the best gym I’ve ever used at a hotel. I can’t wait to take another trip just to stay here a few days.

The best hotels are the ones, which you don't want to leave, even if they are in a prime location, i.e. downtown and near lots of attractions: a beautiful park, a nice shopping street... Even an "ordinary" King Room at the Newbury Boston is well appointed, modern, light and bright, and comes with a beautiful lounge seat along the window sill, which I used a whole long morning to work a bit. I got a room at the 15th floor - lovely! - I met sweet valets (who let me park my rental car for a moment, so that I could check in and drop my luggage in my room, before returning the vehicle to Sixt several blocks away), I was lucky to have a charming bellman, who carried my suitcase and backpack to my room and was happy to give some explanations. A polite and friendly concierge made sure that I had reserved a table for breakfast the next morning at Contessa, which would be fully booked, he assured me. The superfriendly host at the reception opened the lounge - they call it The Library - for me, even after I had returned my room key, his charming colleague had offered me a late check-out at 3 p.m. the previous day... I could go on and on. I only stayed 24 hours, but I enjoyed every moment. And I enjoyed the delicious granola for breakfast, too. I guess, I will be back at The Newbury, next time I'm in town. Because I got all this, in spite of the fact that the hotel was fully booked (given the national holiday that weekend) and in spite of the fact that masses of guests filled the lobby, lounge, bar and restaurant. Somewhat stressful, but the staff did not have the guests suffer for it.

My recent stay at the Newbury Hotel in Boston was an absolute dream come true! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by a remarkable guest experience team that went above and beyond to ensure my stay was nothing short of extraordinary.
The attention to detail and personalized care extended by the entire staff truly made me feel like a VIP. I was particularly impressed when I received a call from the general manager, Rob Lowe himself, who wanted to personally check in on my satisfaction. This level of dedication to guest satisfaction is truly remarkable and sets Newbury Hotel apart from the rest.
One of the highlights of my stay was the culinary journey I experienced at the hotel's remarkable dining establishments. The caviar at The Street Bar was an absolute delight, bursting with exquisite flavors that delighted my palate. The presentation and service were impeccable, leaving me with a lasting impression of elegance and sophistication.
At Contessa, I had the pleasure of savoring the butternut squash carpaccio, a dish that exceeded all expectations. The delicate balance of flavors and the artistic presentation were simply outstanding. The culinary team's dedication to quality and creativity truly shone through in every bite.
Aside from the exceptional dining experiences, the overall service at Newbury Hotel was flawless. Every time I walk into the Newbury Hotel, I am transported back in time. Because of its old-world elegance, I expect to see Jay Gatsby himself descending the grand staircase after having dinner at the rooftop restaurant Contessa. But my favorite space is the Street Bar tucked just inside of the revolving door. This space is warm and cozy and the perfect place to get stranded during a snowstorm. I was lucky enough to get a seat at the bar and Tyler was my bartender. He made me feel so welcome like I was a guest in his home. A glass of water immediately appeared in front of me as I was getting into my seat (the bar is a tight fit). I ordered the Street Bar Sour which was perfectly balanced. After some meal suggestions from Tyler, I ordered the Butternut Squash Soup and Fries. The fries are the best you will find anywhere. These fries along with the attention I received from Tyler will keep me coming back as well as recommending to friends and visitors.

I have stayed at The Newbury three times between January and April and have found the hotel and restaurants to be outstanding. When a valet greets you by name when you step out of an Uber, that’s very special. When you enter the hotel there’s a very pleasant underrated scent that is both sophisticated and clean. The rooms are all sensibly arranged and I have to give credit to the housekeeping staff. Not only did they food my clothes impeccably, I discovered them scrubbing every inch of the bathroom every day. Again, a hard working, sophisticated and special team. I don’t review many places but completed this one without hesitation.

The newbury is my new favorite hotel to stay at in Boston. Not only is the location perfect but the service is amazing. We checked in slightly early and housekeeping got our room ready so fast we were able to check in early. The bed was so comfy I fell asleep and my husband had to wake me so we would make it to our concert on time. The bedding and pillows felt like I was sleeping on a cloud. Overall great place to stay

This is a great and elegant hotel. Back in its Ritz Carlton incarnation, my office was just around the corner, and it was a great place to meet friends and clients for drinks or meals. In its current incarnation as The Newbury, it has both caught up with the times and restored the classic look and service that people loved so much. My recent visit was a reunion with a childhood friend, and I booked a suite through American Express. I was delighted to get one of the 40 guest rooms with a working fireplace. A butler comes to build the fire for you. The fireplace is quite safe with double doors, both a screen and a glass front. Food and beverage prices are quite steep, though that is somewhat mitigated by the AMEX "fine hotels and resorts" program that includes a substantial food and beverage credit. The Newbury is in a great part of town. If shopping is your thing, Newbury Street is an upscale shopper's paradise. (As a rule, the higher the numbers on a Newbury Street address, the lower the prices.) The fancy designer stores are mostly in the first two blocks. The Back Bay residential neighborhood is as pretty as any city in this country and a wonderful place for a stroll.

Very rarely do I feel compelled to write a review like this, but with this property I feel I have to give fellow travelers a fair warning.
Now the hotel looks great on the outside and the doormen are extremely helpful. Everything falls apart the minute I check in, and the elevator wait is probably the worst I’ve ever experienced.
This is actually my second time back to this hotel since I have been a member with leading hotels of the world for some time and always love to try out new boutique hotels. I was so excited to try this one in Boston that recently joined the program. The check- in process couldn’t have been worse. Their staff are undertrained and do not seem to understand anything about leading hotels of the world membership levels. I wasn’t given any outlines of the benefits I have during the stay like one would have if they booked via Amex FHR. The front desk staff do not make people feel welcome. I asked about tolls when driving in Boston one day and I was simply told that “I have no idea since I don’t drive”
The worst part is probably the front desk manager who got into an argument with me for a guaranteed perk reserved for the top 1% of leading hotels of the world members (Aurelian members). I asked to verify my 4 pm late check out as a courtesy but was told that it’s only for amex members. I then contacted leaders club to help me sort it out and they were able to secure it for me. The front desk manager called me a few moments later. Instead of apologizing for her lack of understanding of their own in house membership tiers and benefits, she started by saying she was going to offer it to me anyway before leaders club intervened. This demonstrates failure on the training of the staff as they do not want to engage in verbal confrontation with the guests especially when they are in the wrong here.
I really wanted to like this hotel as I’ve been booking almost exclusively with leading hotels of the world whenever there’s an option to do so. This one does not feel like it lives up to the caliber of a leading hotel. Perhaps with time they will get better, but for now I would recommend booking somewhere else. I booked a stay at mandarin oriental Boston prior to this one and had a great time. For the price they charge, there are too many top tier options to bother with this one.

SleepySea, your feedback is precious, as it incites opportunities for refinement. I regret to learn that your recent experience with us showed imperfection, particularly regarding misunderstandings revolving around membership levels and benefits. Speaking on behalf of all our team members, I unreservedly apologize and I assure you this is not reflective of our elegant service aura. Elevating our guests' experience is of paramount importance to us, and I'm saddened to hear about the annoyance you encountered with respect to elevator access. Your constructive criticisms will certainly be used to review and rectify this matter expeditiously. Your ongoing loyalty toward boutique hotels and the Leading Hotels of the World program is greatly acknowledged and appreciated. It’s laudable that you uphold such high expectations because it prompts us to cultivate a breathtaking experience that fulfills them. I promise to channel your feedback to our team who will rigorously seek to master the necessary knowledge pertaining to our caring hospitality and membership standards. I am ardently hopeful that you will provide us with an opportunity to reclaim your trust and demonstrate the brilliance of our services that our esteemed guests typically savor. In the illustrious spirit of this grand hotel's tradition, we do believe in the magic of constant evolution. With warm regards.

I had the fortunate opportunity to tour the Newbury Boston and was impressed beyond words. Mr. Reda Ibrahim was so knowledgeable about every corner of the hotel and brought to life its rich history and evolution. No detail was left to chance at this hotel. From the moment I entered, I was warmly greeted with a subtle yet gorgeous scent that I later learned was a signature fragrance. The staff were extremely diligent and courteous - I didn't even have to push the elevator button to get to the restaurant because there was someone there to do it for me.
And speaking of the restaurant! Contessa was an excellent experience all its own. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. Everyone was so attentive that the moment one gets up, there is someone there to re-fold their napkin. Our server, Lydia, was a gem. From her knowledge of the menu to her gracious service that not once felt intrusive or overbearing.
I cannot wait to come back to Boston!
