The citizenM Boston North Station Hotel is lauded for its friendly and efficient service, despite occasional lapses. Its prime location near TD Garden and central attractions is a highlight for guests. However, many feel the hotel doesn't offer good value, pointing out the expensive, compact rooms and limited amenities. While the cleanliness is generally applauded, some minor issues have been noted. The hotel's atmosphere stands out as modern and stylish, with a commendation for its tech-savvy approach, although the rooms' size and lack of certain features have drawn some criticism.

We've stayed at a citizenM location in NYC and enjoyed it, so we felt confident booking this location. The room layout is a little unique, but it is certainly functional. The location was near a major transit stop, with lots of shopping and dining options.

Staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was spotless! Will definitely stay again.

The standard super-small rooms of Citizen should be priced consequently. 400+ dollars per night, with 20 usd extra foir the breakfast, are not reflected in the size and quality of the room. Also, the cleaning option automatically disabled (I had to turn it on) is not fair (and, btw, it worth more than the 3 dollars they claim the will donate)

Hi there maxkava, We never like to hear that one of our guests had a less than positive experience during their stay and we apologize for not meeting your expectations. Our rooms are designed with a functionality focus rather than space. We believe that all the little perks like streaming TV, consistently hot showers, and a comfortable XL bed are more important than extra space but we do understand your preferences. Please know that our living room spaces are designed entirely with our guests in mind! We encourage you to join us at any time to fuel up with our locally sourced breakfast in the AM, kick your feet up and relax in the afternoon, or gather with friends in the evening before a night out in the city. Please rest assured that all guest donations to straight to our citizenMovement charity - for more information, you can check out our website info on this - go to our citizenM webpage and select 'citizenmovement'. I think if you are traveling solo or as a couple and catching a game at the TD garden or need easy access to the MBTA subway, this is a great location. Premium room upgrade is worth it to see Boston skyline.

By far the smoothest check-in and check-out experience I ever had. Took one min each way and when I showed up around 9AM the morning of my check-in, they even had a room available for me to early check-in so I didn't have to bag storage.

Only things I wish were better about the room were more desk space and stronger shower pressure.

Our room was smaller than our master with a bathroom that is not really a bathroom. There is no privacy to do your business without the other person hearing everything. The water pressure sucked in the shower which is basically on top of the toilet. No way to have two people getting ready at the same time. I am fairly petite and this felt like I was staying in a camper with the size of the bathroom and everything else. Breakfast is $20 per person per day and tastes like the continental breakfast at motel 6. No decaf coffee and the rooms don’t have coffee but the “fridge” they advertise is a drawer under the “bathroom” sink that is more like an ice chest and holds nothing more than two Gatorade bottles. You have to go all the way to the main lobby and ask for ice from the canteen. This was far from a luxury hotel experience and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone staying for any longer than a day or two or with another person. Not worth the price difference in other basic hotels. The ONLY positive from the 5 days we stayed was the location to public transit, which also come with the price of homeless bummin around.

Greetings rdsx4lf, We are so disappointed to hear that the majority of our hotel concept was not for you. We are by no means traditional and we understand whilst this is the reason most of our returning guests come back to see us, we are not for everyone. We hope you find something to suit your needs next time...all we wish is our guests to be happy at the end of the day, and if that isn't with us...we wish you nothing but safe travels. We are extremely unhappy with the standard room that we initially were given. The fact that the bed is enclosed on 3 sides is ridiculous when there are 2 people in the bed. No one wants to climb over their bedmate to get out of the bed…how is this not a fire hazard? The lack of dresser space, storage space, a luggage rack, and shelving were also an issue (for the amount of money we paid). The sink was also located in the bedroom area; not the bathroom. The toilet/shower area was all-in-one, which was worse than a dorm room.

When I called the front desk, Zack immediately offered to move us to the next room over, which is supposed to be handicap accessible, which then offered us walking space around the bed, so that issue was fixed quickly. He even offered to move us to a new floor with a slightly better view…we declined in the moment because it was 11:00pm and we had already unpacked and needed to just switch rooms, but in the morning we realized why he suggested a different view…our view was of all the HVAC machinery. Womp womp…the saving grace was that the hotel was cute enough to put fun little phrases and sayings on the machinery (see pics). Thank you for doing what you could for us, Zack!

The fact that our 2nd room is called handicapped accessible is also an issue. While I am not in a wheelchair, if I were, there would be a ton of issues with this room. The TINY trash cans are so low to the floor, they would be unusable to someone in a chair. There also are still NO drawers or luggage racks in this room, aside from the very shallow dresser drawers under the bed…which someone in a chair could NEVER use. The base of the drawer seems like it might be removable, but neither my husband nor I could lift those boards out of the drawers. You could maybe fit 1 layer of clothing in each drawer. Like, 1 pair of pants and 1 shirt…no one travels like this for this price.

I spoke with Manager Jack, and it seemed to everyone in our group that Jack probably deals with these complaints regularly because he was very dismissive of our concerns. He basically told me “you’re welcome to pack up and find a new hotel”, and also “our hotel just isn’t for everyone, so I’m sorry but there’s nothing much we can do”. He had a lot of standard responses ready to go, which is sad.

Greetings again Meaghan, As you will see, I responded to a previous review from you. As I understand from the team, and the content of your reviews, we really were not for you. The sentiment behind offering to help you find alternative accommodation, is that our team will always ensure that if any of our guests you are not happy with the hotel, room, concept or beyond, we will still go above and beyond to help ensure they are looked after until they leave. We are sorry if this did not come across in this way and whilst we understand you were still looking to keep your reservation and stay with us, and had requested your room be fully compensated by ourselves, given how unhappy you expressed you were with the room and the concept, we would have rather, as we shared, refunded you and helped you find alternative accommodation. With all said, that you for giving us a shot and we do hope you still enjoyed your time in Boston. Safe travels, Lucy Latta Hotel Manager

Before reserving I called the phone num. Displayed on Google to find out if I can upgrade to a room that fit 4 people and a rep. Confirmed that I can do it at the property. When we arrived the rep. Made me book a whole 2nd room because according to them rooms only fit 2 people, he asked me to show him the call log from 2 weeks ago to confirm I spoke to someone because he didn't believe someone told me that on the phone. To book the second room, he rerouted me to book online rather and didn't not want to book my second room for me in person. They didn't finish assisting me when they had already moved to the next person that arrived after me. The view from my kids room was great city view, the 2nd room also had a view but not a city which was fine because this room was even more expensive than the original price I paid using travelocity.com the rep insisted that I should upgrade to have a "view" made it sound like I wouldn't have a window at all. I attempted to order room service but my order was canceled. I placed my order in-person but was extremely disappointed, the fries were cold, the nachos were nasty dry cheese can't taste it, the guacamole was dark, the chicken had a heavy tomato spicy sauce that had a nasty can flavor total waste of $54... the apple juice was served in a glass cup with ice, I made them change it because by the time the food came (cold) the ice had melted.

Greetings Isabel, I'm really sorry to hear you had issues with your booking. I am not sure who you spoke with (sounds like potentially the external travel rep), however our hotel chain globally has always operated with a 2 person to a room policy. This information can be found on our website and which is also why if you book online, you are only able to select 2 guests per room. I'm equally disappointed to hear you didn't have the best experience with the food you ordered, our nachos are a firm favorite with our guests so I am sorry this wasn't for you. Happy Thanksgiving, Lucy Latta Hotel Manager

I stayed here twice a few days apart, on the beginning and end of a New England trip. Staff encountered were helpful, fun, friendly, upbeat, patient with my questions without being condescending in the least. Excellent front of house in every respect, including the canteen. Rooms were small, but very much as depicted. Learning how to control everything through the iPad, including Chromecast streaming from my device, clear and easy. Loved the ready hot water for showers, the provided gels and soaps, and -- most of all -- on the second night, the view from my 12th-floor room, which was stunning. Upgrading to a room with a view (not that expensive an upgrade) is worth it in my opinion. On my first night of stay, I did have a bed with a dip in it on the open side, and that was uncomfortable, but the bed was large enough to move around and avoid the dip. Second night/second stay, that bed didn't have the same issue and was totally fine. Super comfortable.

This is not a venue I'd choose to stay with someone else in the same room--even very friendly/intimate--as it is just tight for negotiating two people trying to get ready in the morning, two sets of luggage, etc. But for the solo traveler reasonably tech savvy, this is terrific. Loved my experience and will be back!

I enjoyed my experience staying at a CitizenM hotel for the first time. This Boston location is super convenient if you are attending a show at the TD Garden, which is just a couple of minutes walk out the door. The rooms are a bit small so if you are traveling with someone, you better like them! LOL The property itself is beautiful.

citizenM North Station is conveniently located steps away from the Amtrak Station and 2 of the subway lines. Although slightly smaller than a typical hotel room, it was sufficiently large for us. If you are in Boston for work, there are no desks in the rooms, but there is plenty of space to work in what they call the "living room". The rooms were comfortable with a soft bed and comforter. An iPad controls lights, tv, temperature and shades. Every employee that I interacted with was friendly and helpful. The Buffett breakfast (an extra 18.95 per person) offered a variety of foods.

We had everything we needed in a modern, very cleverly efficient small room, done with a fun sense of humor and style. The staff was very nice and helpful. The common areas, bar, lounge and deck were very inviting and comfortable with lots of books, games and art.
We did not pay extra for a view room. Our view was a wall with mechanical duct work etc ,all painted what looked like dark gray, below and the sky above. It was a well maintained no-view. It was fine for us but if you care, go for a city view room.

Yes, there are many outlets throughout the room. I believe there are at least four individual sockets near the bed.

No. They disable the source button on the remote and mount the TV in a way that blocks guests from accessing an HDMI port. Surprisingly tech-restrictive for a hotel that wants to give off high-tech atmosphere. I went to front desk for help and they confirmed that this is how their room setup was intended. You can Chromecast and apple airplay but that isn't helpful to anyone needing to plug in devices that cannot be cast. (Aka a Nintendo switch or anything like that)
