I reserved this HIX hotel for one night using a rather large amount of my IHG points but unfortunately it wasn't much noteworthy even for a Spire member. I had to change my room upon arrival because of some horrific smell in the room (most likely cleaning supplies), a window covered in bird poo and zero view (except the bird poo). Second room was better but extremely noisy. In the morning I went to get some of the breakfast that's supposed to be included however both the juice dispenser and the pancake machine were broken. Management knew about it yet it has been left in this condition apparently for days. What the hell?? Duty Manager promised to credit points to my account for all this yet nothing happened until today, two weeks later. The whole Union Square area has deteriorated a lot and it doesn't feel very safe anymore given some incidents I witnesses. Best advise: Avoid!…
+ Rooms are nice but small. Beds are very comfortable. Rooms clean. + Recently re-introduced hot breakfast is more than adequate and varied a bit each day. Breakfast workers friendly and accommodating. + Good value. - Loud. Garbage collection around 1.30 a.m., lots of street noise. This is a city hotel and one can accept that, but windows are single pane and very poor. - Not told at check-in that housekeeping is only available every five days. Not a big problem, but we only found out after all towels had been used and deposited on the floor. That said, we asked and received a few more towels. - Area around hotel full of homeless people and questionable individuals. We did not want to venture out after dark. If you are mainly sightseeing during the day and if you sleep deeply, this hotel is fine. Otherwise, you may want to look in a different area.…
On April 20, 2021 I booked a reservation at this hotel online through IHG rewards using points for a 4 night stay beginning July 13, 2021 through July 17, 2021. On May 23, 2021 I learned my reservation had been cancelled by the hotel. I contacted the hotel and was told that morning at 10:44 am my reservation was cancelled by someone named Ellen Barnett. She apparently told them her IHG account hacked and she did not make the reservation. After spending over 2 hours on the phone with IHG and this hotel they agreed to reinstate my reservation but it was going to cost me an extra 7000 points. After repeated conversations and arguing that I did not cancel my own reservation IHG itself reimbursed me the 7000 extra points. I would have just moved to another hotel but we were meeting other travelers staying there and we needed to be close to them. My nightmare continued because neither IHG nor the hotel itself could provide me confirmation of my reinstated reservation. I finally got an employee from the hotel to email me a letter stating I had a reservation and they were unable to send me a copy of it. While I was concerned I would have a room when I arrived, howevercheck in was no problem and they had my room. The location of the hotel is excellent and the property is well maintained and clean. The personal working the front desk did a good job. Breakfast is still very limited using the excuse of Covid but it was adequate. I am an IHG platinum elite member with both IHG select and premier credit cards. I know my nightmare with this reservation will continue since I have not received any welcome points for my stay. I also feel certain that I also will not receive my 10% points rebate . This will require more hours of hassle dealing with the hotel and IHG in order to try to get what I normally will get from my IHG stays. I spend over 100 nights a year in hotel rooms and this problem has made me rethink staying at IHG properties. I think it is time to focus on a different hotel group.…
This is different from most HIE’s. It feels more like a boutique hotel. My room was a king. It was fairly small but the bathroom was new and quite spacious. A nice shower and an automatic fan / night light. Of course the most important thing is this is a reasonably priced hotel 1.5 blocks from Union Square and 2 blocks from the Powell cable car turn around. I will definitely stay here again.
2nd anniversary trip. The hotel was very clean. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. We missed our first due to airline connections and weather. The manager was kind and credited our room for the missed night. Location is safe and easily accessible to transportation. We would stay here again !!
