Hotel Whitcomb was the only hotel I could locate with a suite that contained double beds for less than $800 or so in the area near Golden Gate Theater. While the beds were very comfortable, the furniture in the "parlor" needed to be cleaned or replaced. Even so, it was serviceable for our short stay. Staff was pleasant and accommodating but we had to ask for a coffee pot which was delivered immediately.

The hotel was clean and well equipped. The service was friendly and positive. The room was more than adequate, other than not having a light in the closet. The wifi and TV/cable were great. The water filtration system (near the elevator) was very nice additional feature.

The staff in the hotel are ver friendly especially โ€œBurneyโ€, he is helpful and always smile. Also the location is good and close to the convention center.
I recommend it for anyone have an event at Moscon center because of the price compared with others. Itโ€™s four stars hotel but it a little bit old. I was lucky to get a room at the Market street. All rooms at that street are bigger than others but they are noisy because of the cars.

We just checked out this morning after staying two nights. We stayed here for my wifes birthday and when you first walk in the lobby you feel like you're being transported back to the 1920's. This hotel is really historic and has a fun feel to it. Take advantage of the valet parking and leave the driving to the subway, bus, taxi or UBER that just made it easier for us to get around town and not worry about parking. We saw the musical Hamilton which was right across the street so we just walked. This hotel was built in 1910 but has been very well kept up, there are also plenty of restaurants across the street and around the corner so easy to walk to. The staff was always helpful and we would recomend this hotel and we will for sure be back.

The Whitcomb hotel is conveniently located downtown Civic Center in San Francisco, blocks from the UN plaza, Civic Center, the Historic City Hall building, the Supreme Court of the State of California, the Asian Art Museum, and many more attractions. Transportation to other downtown attractions are only a BART or MUNI ride away; including Shopping at Powell or conducting business at Montgomery center. This location is highly recommended for travelers seeing to experience SF, the community, food (which I highly recommend visiting the Gyro King โ€“ Greek food; or a couple of blocks away, the Lers Ros restaurant), or if you are an art lover, the museum, ballet, etc. Back to the hotel, the staff are incredible. The beds are comfortable, and the hotel feel brings you to an era of the 1930 and 40s; it is an older hotel with all the amenities of a modern building; internet is free, drinking water fee, including ice, big screen TV, etc..i love the blankets, very soft and comfortable. For what ever reason you don't like the room, no problem, contact front desk and they will do their best to accommodate your request, etc. In other words, this is a great hotel at a great price; book via their website and you get perks. Highly recommended. Did I mention they have great staff; staff that cares? Yup, they do! Enjoy your stay. Cheers, Jp.

James G. saved my trip! As I stated in the extensive review on the previous page of this survey, my trip started off awful and on the 2nd floor but the very next night I was upgraded to room 601 which has a great view of City Hall and a nice bath tub & shower. Please refer to the extensive review I provided on the survey that preceded this page. It is redundant for me to be asked at this point to basically rewrite the review that I provided already after clicking submit.

Reached out for a long time to replace lost items due to bed bugs. Got strung along. Terrible management awful place. Would not stay unless it was a last resort.

Location, Location, Location! Historical registered hotel that has been nicely updated but the hotel does still show its age. The location on Market Street across from the Orpheum Theater was fantastic as we were in town to see HAMILTON. The hotel lobby is large but not heated so you can feel the weather conditions even when you get inside away from the elements. The front desk staff are friendly, helpful, prompt and professional. There are a bar and small coffee/bakery shop in the lobby as well which is very convenient. The elevators are are on the small side but add to the charm and character of the Whitcomb. The hallways to and from the rooms are immense and attributed to a bygone era of classical hotels. Our room featured two queen beds, a huge walk in closet (doors were not in the track and were left leaning against the wall to allow access. Perhaps a work in progress?) The beds were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was quite large and clean, but oddly the bathroom door opened INTO the room, which is again attributed to the age of the hotel. Housekeeping did a marvelous job keeping the room In order during our extended weekend stay.

Hotel atmosphere was exceptional. Service attendants were very tentative. As soon as we arrived, Burney welcomed my family and I with a pleasant and respectful manner that made us feel so much at home. After checking in, he informed us about the amenities offered and things that can be done around the vicinity if weโ€™d be interested. Our room was very clean and even as we walked in to our room, another staff member offered to bring us a set up of coffee and extra towels if needed seeing that we had our boys with us. We ventured every day that we stayed and came back at 6pm comfortably enough to just relax and sleep. Hotel is located so close to many historical areas and shopping centers, it made everything so much easier for us. More than happy with our experience and stay at Whitcomb Hotel, Thank you Burney!

We were a bit concerned booking room @ Hotel Whitcomb reading the reviews but went ahead considering the location.

We were really surprised with the warm welcome by Mr. Burney - who helped us get early check-in to the room (really helpful after 16 hours flight) and explained about the nearby attractions. Rooms were small but very clean and comfortable.

Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Thanks Burney

I stayed here back in January for 7 nights. I didnโ€™t mind it at all. The hotel is a little aged, but the rooms are clean and the staff were not too bad. There is a grocery store and pharmacy down the road and access to the trams and rail below is perfect to get back to the Embarcadero and Bay. I would use this hotel again. I would recommend this

The hotel is a little old but from our experience was clean and linen was white (which is a must for us). The area is next to Tenderloin which is a little more troublesome, but really just keep an eye out for any trouble. Public transport is close and a 5 min ride on the Rail below gets you to the Embarcadero or out to the Zoo etc.

As I always say: safe in number. If u are on your own those homeless may approach you and bother you begging for food and money. Otherwise u will be fine. Avoiding the station area? Good idea.
