Detailed Reviews
The hotel is very old. I thought at first, it started out as something else, but then, "it is San Francisco". I didn't choose the hotel. A friend there for a conference did because it was in their budget. At first, I was a little put off, but quickly got over it. We stayed one week. At over 160 a night, that seemed steep to me, but, "It is San Francisco". We quickly found out that a very famous drag club was right next door, as in, attached to the building. I was worried about noise, but it was never a problem. I did get to see some of the night life, and it was quite entertaining. (in a good way, totally) There is everything (and I mean everything) you need within walking distance. I quickly ran to Trader Joes and picked up breakfast things to stock in my fridge. I do not do pastry for breakfast, or cereal, and that is what you get for their included breakfast. The only protein is yogurt, which I don't do either. Having the fridge was great. It was basically a place to shower and sleep. The staff is what makes this place worth staying at (unless it's only because it's cheap "for San Francisco") There are many good places close by to eat. A few blocks away on Harrison around the I-15 entrance, near Best Buy, there is a food truck park, with a big screen TV in a sitting area that had some big baseball game going, with all the food trucks surrounding you. I had some of the BEST pizza ever from one of those trucks. A wood fired oven pizza. (still wishing I had some of that) Lots of other choices as well, all what I would call "cheap eats", but with SanFran quality. Lot's of folks come, order and sit with their family to eat, some bring their dogs, really nice outdoor atmosphere. Then, there is Rocco's Italian in the opposite direction on Folsom. Incredible everything. Of course, more pricy but totally worth it. Nothing disappoints and we went twice. From steamed clams in white wine to the blackberry pie a la mode, just incredible. Lots of locals there at lunch and dinner, which says something. The hotel is an older hotel, no elevator, and had to walk up 2 flights of stairs with the luggage, but no big deal. My AC worked great (I'm prob the only person using AC in San Francisco in October, but when we arrived, they were having a weird heat wave) Parking is free, (1st come, 1st served) we used Uber or a taxi most of the time if we didn't walk and they were always there in minutes. We did walk from fishermans wharf back to the hotel one day. It wasn't easy but we did it, and we walked many other places. Don't let the area scare you. San Francisco is really one of the safest cites anywhere. Yes, there are a lot of homeless, but I think they actually come there because the city services are so darn good. If you are looking for a less expensive place, but still located well within everything you could possibly need, this is it. And again, the staff, all the way from the front desk to housekeeping are just some of the nicest people I've ever met. Without that, I would not rate the hotel as high as I did. Its older, no room service, but they do have a delivery service that will bring you just about anything you want at any time of the day or night. Probably better than room service, less expensive and better food. Overall, I'd stay again, cool location, great staff, and for San Francisco, a bargain. The staff overall speak about 6 different languages. It came in quite handy.

The place is a bit of a hack, but I feel I should be a bit less critical as the staff was trying really hard to make visitors' stays enjoyable. However, they had little to work in their favour. First, the location is terrible - do not walk around here at night by yourself! The rooms are facing an open space parking lot and I actually wondered how hard it is for someone to climb to your door right from the street. In other words, it does not look like a secure place and, given the neighbourhood, this can be challenging. The doors don't close very well and the windows (which face the same parking lot) don't look to safe either.
The place seems cheap, but it is actually quite expensive for what it offers.

Dear Aschiuta, We are very sorry about your unpleasant experience. But maybe it was just the circumstances you were in. Our hotel is in the Soma District of San Francisco, which is quite well known for it’s night life, but there aren’t many safety concerns in this neighborhood. People often come here for the convenience our hotel provides by being at a short distance from the great things to be enjoyed in downtown San Francisco. I am sorry, the staff should have reassured you about the how safe our property is: we have security cameras all throughout the property; there is only one entrance in and out, and only guests have access to it; and there is always a night employee on duty to assure that everything is going well. We hope you come back to stay with us, and we will make sure you enjoy your stay this time. Thank you

While we were unable to stay at San Francisco Inn, their leniency on cancellation policy earns 5 stars, in my book.
Our surgical procedure at UCSF had a last minute postponement. The inn staff took this into account, and contrary to their 48 hour cancellation policy, never did charge us.

If the outside doesn't scare you, wait until you walk to your room and then enter it. I can't remember the last time I saw an old school TV in a hotel. Then to see the iron and ironing board hanging prominently in the wall next to the TV. Enough said...

I stayed here Nov 4 - Nov 8 2015 with 2 friends and for the price and location it was everything we needed. We spent most of the day out, but at night we slept well and our car was secure in the parking lot downstairs. By around 10 pm the lot gets full. There are about 10 spots I believe. The location was close to interesting parts/bars/restaurants that are walking distance but the public transportation was very useful to get to further places (until 12am because it stops running around that time). The staff was very helpful and the breakfast items were great morning snacks (mini-cereals, juice, milk, coffee, granola bars).

San Francisco was great to visit...if I went again would not go back to Fisherman's Wharf (except to see the sea lions).highly over rated and over priced (Red Lobster better seafood ..lol) China town is a must...fresh and tasty food at reasonable prices)..Coits Tower, very interesting, great view...Wine tour and Muir Forest excursion (Roman was our tour host) excellent a must do!!! Alcatraz was amazing.... It sounds like you had a mixed experience in San Francisco! Exploring different areas like Chinatown, Coit Tower, and the wine tour at Muir Forest seems like it made the trip enjoyable. Alcatraz and Lombard Street are iconic spots indeed. The city's diverse transportation options do make it convenient for getting around, and it's great to hear that the transit system and activities were accommodating. Investing in good footwear is always a wise choice for all the walking in such an active city! Your insights into places to visit and experiences will certainly be helpful for others planning a trip to San Francisco.

I recently visited SFO, and booked this hotel only because I was looking for hotel offering free parking near Union Square.
The hotel is well managed and the staff was very hospitable, Srikant the guy at the Front desk was very helpful.
Had read enough about the quality of breakfast, but must say they are making efforts to improve.
I strongly recommend this to everyone

We stayed at the San Francisco Inn a week ago for 5 nights. Our review is reflective of the price we paid for the hotel. We scored a great deal on Booking.com and were very impressed with the facilities and quality of services for the price. Prior to this hotel, we were staying in hostels for the same (or more) amount. We much preferred having our own private room with the in-room essentials such as a fridge, microwave, private bathroom, TV, etc. The room was average size, but perfect for what we needed. The free breakfast was an added bonus and definitely saved us a lot of money not having to eat at a cafe every morning. They had a large variety of options (cereals, fruits, yoghurt, juices, danishes), plus they had coffee on the go throughout the day. Awesome for me as a coffee lover! Our room was serviced daily.
The location was pretty good. It was a fair distance from downtown San Fran (about 30 minutes walk to Union Square), but public transport made getting there very simple. The bus stopped right on the corner of the street, about 10m from the hotel. It had a clear direct route into town. Trader Joe's, the local grocery store, was also very close, making grocery shopping highly convenient. It was only a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
The staff were very helpful with all of our questions about sightseeing and evn recommended a few hotspots around town. Overall, very good value for money. We would highly recommend this place if you are travelling on a budget.

When booking we requested a parking space. There are only about 30 rooms and possibly 20 spaces. We had no trouble. Whilst there you dont really need a car. Enjoy.
No, parking is limited and quite small. Unless they have changed the policy, I would call to double check. Your best bet would be to park and maybe take Uber or lyft around the city or even public transportation.
No, but I've never had an issue after staying there three times.
Dear Guest,
