We stayed here for 5nights the first wk in November. I had emailed in advance for recommendations on where to eat for a special occasion as it was our Anniversary during our stay & it was our first time in San Francisco. The hotel emailed back with the email address for concierge to get recommendations on restaurants & had kindly upgraded us to a suite. On arrival check in was quick & we were given a voucher for 20% off at Cafe Mason just around the corner as their restaurant wasn't open (can highly recommend breakfast there but that's another review). We were on the 7th floor in a corner suite facing the pool with no rooms either side....bonus! On entering our room there was a bottle of bubbly & a goodie bag a lovely touch. The suite was great with everything we needed & a huge comfy bed, as stated in previous reviews the hotel is abit dated but had character & have no complaints about our room. Hotel is in a great location with Union Square right on the doorstep, the Bart station a 5min walk away (we took the bart from the airport only 30mins & $21 return), the tram was just around corner & was fun to ride. There were bars & restaurants close by so after a long day of sightseeing we didn't have far to go, also there is a Walgreens just around the corner which was convenient. Overall we had a very pleasant stay at this hotel & would recommend to stay here.…
A lovely hotel just a few steps from Union Square. On arrival the staff greeted us cheerily , we needed to leave our luggage to take our car back this was handled swiftly by the young lady on reception & the security gentleman. Our room was a premier king with a balcony looking onto O' Farrell st which was lovely we had a beautiful sunny room with a sofa & chair to relax. I could see the cable cars going up Powell st from the balcony. The room was quiet (6th floor) . The bed was comfortable & it was nice to have a dressing area as well as a good bathroom with good pressure on the shower & instant hot water. All in all a very good hotel deserves more than 3 stars.
Stayed for 5 nights and was quite disappointed with this hotel. A previous comment said the hotel was tired which I agree with. The location is great but we didn’t sleep well the whole time due to house keeping waking us up early, the rooms above having extremely creaky floor boards and hearing all the noise from the TV, people walking in the room above and the rooms next to us slamming doors. If I went to San Fran again I would give this hotel a miss.
Had a large room that faced the swimming pool so curtains drawn most of the time when usually they would all be open [elsewhere]. Its essentially two hotels bolted together and its tired and in dire need of some TLC plus no restaurant open which was not ideal. Comfy bed, big room are positives but tired decor, no bar/restaurant & dark rooms the negatives. Great location right alongside Union Sq but we'll go somewhere else next time (May 2023!)
My friend and I stayed here for 7 nights, our room was on the 7th floor, spacious and had two king size beds and a settee. I stayed here 30 years ago and wanted to return. Our only grumble was that our bedroom backed onto a tunnel where the buildings met and there was some echo noise transfer from the lower bedrooms, especially on the Saturday night where it seemed someone was having a party! The room was spacious and clean and had tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant now but that wasn’t an issue, we had breakfast on the go. There was a lovely pool area to the rear of the building, we didn’t use it but would have done had the weather been warmer. We hired a car for a couple of days, the hotel parking was expensive -60+$ per night, the multi storey car park in O’Farrell Street was half that price. The hotel was close to the trolley bus, Bart and buses. I would return.…
Great location in the heart of SF. Great value for a decent hotel, heated pool and large clean rooms. All rooms have lots of amenities. Staff very friendly. There is a car park if you need it and door man/concierge are also present. Definitely recommend staying!
From check-in to check-out, everything was so easy. Staff were amazing, the hotel was clean, the rooms were spacious, the beds were comfortable, it was quiet - I could go on! It’s in a great location with bars & diners, shops & transport close by. If you’re in San Francisco, I wouldn’t go past staying at the Handlery Union Square.
Friendly, efficient staff plus a nice (heated) pool area to complement a location that is convenient to upscale shopping and great restaurants. A short walk will get you to the cable cars or to the BART - with it's easy and inexpensive access to the airport. We had a room overlooking the pool area and on one evening it was loud a little late outside our sliding door, but other than that we had no complaints.
The hotel is in a good area , although clean the hotel is very tired and in need of updating , the hotel also did not have a restaurant or bar open The rooms are quite small but adequate and equipped for a short stay . The staff were friendly and helpful overall Would stay here again
We were given a room in the historic building and the room was quite small and the bathroom was tiny and very dated. Check in took approx 25 minutes due to only 1 employee being on reception. However, the hotel was clean and comfortable and very centrally located.
