Rooms have no sound proofing. During the day, there’s construction going on across the street near the hotel lobby and it is very loud. I cannot relax myself with that kind of noise level. During the night, music from the bars nearby is also very loud and won’t stop till very late in the night. Then you have maybe three hours of precious sleeping time before you hear the roosters. Not to mention the noisy AC unit.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. I'm sorry to hear that you experienced some disruptions during your visit. The state of Hawaii has been working on harbor improvements for the past couple of years. Being that our property is located across from the harbor, we have had occasional noise in the lobby during the day. Fortunately, we don't have any rooms facing this project and the project is racing to completion. Additionally, there is a noise ordinance in the historic district limiting bars from exceeding 50dbls past 10pm. We have rooms that face Front St., the historic Banyan Tree, and the courtyard. If noise sensitivity is a concern, we recommend requesting a courtyard facing room. Many of our guests enjoy the Front St. and Banyan Tree facing rooms because they enjoy the bird's eye view of the historic district. Our guest service team is available 24hrs/day and is always happy to assist with any issue that may occur--from adjusting fan speed to quiet hour enforcement. I thank you for staying at our property, and hope we have the pleasure of your return to provide you with a better experience.

The Pioneer Inn is a perfect find in Lahaina. We had been going for breakfast for many years and decided to experience the hotel. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by the exceptional front desk clerk, we knew we made a great choice. The Inn has the perfect location on Front St. Our room (#49) was on the second floor with a very large wrap around balcony, 2 rocking chairs and was the perfect spot to people watch. We got take out and ate several meals on the balcony enjoying the activity on the street below. The room was a decent size (the Inn is the oldest in Hawaii), the bathroom was well appointed, air conditioning worked properly and the bed was comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We always loved the Pioneer Grill in past years but we must say, the new restaurant (first floor facing the harbor) is AMAZING! We enjoyed two breakfasts and lunch there. The new chef has raised the bar exceptionally high, and the staff is top notch. The fruit plate is a work of art. The Ocean Breakfast Bowl and the Crispy Noodle Bowl were favorites! If you are considering time in Lahaina, enjoy a stay at this quaint, historical, and professionally run Inn! Hats off to the staff!!

Really really Dirty, unprofessional, no bell service, needs updating, not safe with homeless outside front door. Dirty- needs a deep cleaning! Windows and screens are full of grime, needs painting, need new carpeting, inside courtyard needs sprucing up/ its not maintained. Hallways dark and dingy. Quests on balconies were discussing how dirty the hotel is and homeless issue. Old narrow rickety staircase and no one to assist with bags. No bell service or customer service at all! Almost fell down the stairs w bags. Unprofessional- front desk is chatting w friends on other side of desk, complaining about homeless outside the front door. Informative but unprofessional. ( I must say the room cleaning lady was a doll and helpful) Safety /homeless right outside the lobby door w door wide open and this hotel has no security. Seems the homeless congregate in this area and banyan tree park. Guests on balconies were discussing how unsafe and dirty this place is w no security measures in place and being harassed outside on street. Noisy all night long outside room. Homeless in park and in vans on street at night. Hotel needs safety measures in place, front lobby door wide open with only one gal at desk. I expect more when booking Best Western, surprises me they put their name on this place. We took a shower at next hotel to wash off this hotel. experience. Believe me I am not exaggerating… dont let the location fool you..dont stay here.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. I’m sorry to hear that your brief stay did not fit your expectation for this hotel, or Historic Lahaina Town. Our location is directly across from Lahaina Harbor, adjacent to the Banyan Tree, Cambell Park, Lahaina Library, and the Wharf Cinema Center and their affiliated restaurants. It is a center of the Historic Town’s Activity. This hotel is recorded in the “Historic American Building Survey” and is part of the “National Trust for Historic Preservation”. It is the longest continuously operating hotel in Hawaii, as such, it is not a new building. However, I would like to note that our most recent assessment from Best Western scored in the top 5% and won a Chairman’s award for quality assurance of maintenance and housekeeping. Also, our front desk staff is ranked in the top 2% out of nearly 300 Best Western hotels in our district based on customer reviews. Our restaurant, Papa’aina, was also just recognized by Maui No ka’ oi Magazine with an Aipono Award for the Best Breakfast on Maui. Lahaina has long been a family friendly town with a bit of a salty sailor vibe. Please be assured that our hotel and the MPD take public safety very seriously. I appreciate and understand your perspective. We will definitely send both housekeeping and maintenance to your assigned room to ensure that the detail you had mentioned is not overlooked. I thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. I truly hope that we get the opportunity to leave you with a better impression.

I've walked by this property for years & on a recent solo trip finally had a chance to try it out. Amazing location to explore Lahaina by foot and also to jump on any of the many boat excursions taking off right outside the front door. I did the Lanai ferry roundtrip day trip just departing/returning just steps from the lobby & it was incredibly convenient. - it's an old/historic building...which comes with pros & cons. The a/c is loud (but the ceiling fan is really all I needed at night), the room was small/dated/basic (but the outside veranda with classic rocking chairs was lovely with views stretching from the mountains to the iconic banyan tree to the harbor was nice), no elevator (but it's only one flight of stairs to carry your bags) - the bathroom of course was dated as well - the sink in particular was very slow to drain - but everything was clean, there was mid size fridge & the bed was comfortable. - the pool is small/dated but has some old Hawaii character - if you're looking for big water slides & music this is not your spot...next to nobody using it while I was there - dead. - there's a lovely courtyard with tables/chairs, a cute resident bird and nice views of the water & sunset but it seems sadly underutilized. It would be great if they could get continental breakfast and/or some kind of early evening bar service and music out there to liven it up - maybe it's a permit/licensing issue which precludes it (?) - the adjacent restaurant looked good but the hours open were disappointing - 8-2 only. Well 8am is too late for breakfast for those of us on mainland time zone and/or heading off on an early depart day tour...and 2pm is too early for those of us who would enjoy an onsite cocktail (or snacks or dinner) after a day off site. Lots of room for potential improvement there. - I really wish they had some early morning (like 6am start) freshly brewed coffee (at minimum) available in the lobby. In addition to the outside courtyard area there seen to be a similarly underutilized inside room as well which would be perfect for that purpose. It's not hard to find elsewhere (Bad Ass coffee a block away opens at 6am but I'd have preferred to have stayed on property) - Parking is free across the street - easy walk - pull up to front desk first to upload your stuff, check in and get your pass. - the staff was great - super friendly and efficient

Great time at this hotel. Great staff. Mark at front desk was amazing and was able to assist with an early check in that was super helpful for our infants nap schedule. Housekeeping staff were very friendly and room was spotless. The hotel is a historic building from the early 20th century. Location is central Lahaina and walkable, you can watch the life of the town from your balcony. Attached restaurant was also very good. Due to the historic building there aren’t elevators and rooms are on second floor so bags need to go upstairs. Parking is off site about a block away. Those aren’t criticisms but just to make others aware.

A lovely hotel with an interesting history. The pool was great and most days we had the pool to ourselves. It had a lovely garden and made swimming very relaxing - floating in the pool and looking at a blue sky framed by frangipani and palms was glorious. The local Foodland was a great place to pick up a tropical fruit platter for breakfast and what better place to have breakfast than on the balcony. Convenient location for seeing the sights of Lahaina.

My husband and I loved this charming hotel right in the center of Lahaina, but sadly we were only able to stay 2 nights! (Sept 27/28) But the real reason for my review is the staff. Everyone was so nice and welcoming but Kiley was exceptional. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Best of all she granted us a early check-in! So Kiley, if you are reading this we so enjoyed chatting with you, thank you for everything and we will be back soon! (PS, say hi to Alex and Sketch for us…😀) Laura and Brian Pacific Grove, CA

If you want to experience Maui without staying in the resort areas, then the Pioneer Inn is a great choice. The hotel is an historic property that has retained much of its character; the lobby, courtyard, rooms, and lanais all have the feel of their 100 plus year history. Rooms and amenities, of course, have been updated. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and clean. The courtyard was relaxing and a pleasant place to relax after a day of sightseeing. The pool itself was nice but needs to be recoated (a lot of worn areas in the blue lining). The location is great...right in Lahaina! Walking down Front Street to shops and restaurants is a breeze. All the rooms (I think there are only 33!) seem nice but if you want quiet ask for a room facing the courtyard, if you want to see the harbor and mountains, ask for a room on the Banyon Tree side. Arrival was a bit tricky since there is no driveway or obvious place to stop and unload your car. Front entrance to the hotel is facing the harbor so you need to drive around and hope to find an open place to park and unload. As far as parking during your staff it's free but across the street and behind the Baldwin House in a public lot...not convenient but workable. Finally, the two story hotel does not have an elevator so be prepared to drag your suitcases up the stairs (all rooms are on the second floor). We loved this place and are likely to return!

We were in Lahaina for 3 nights and could not have been happier with our accommodations! We had a great wrap around porch with a view of town and the water which had chairs and a table which were perfect for eating take-out and people watching as well as drinking my morning coffee from my in-room coffee maker! The bed was extremely comfortable and the air conditioning was amazingly efficient and quiet, especially considering how hot it was when we were there. It's a great old historic hotel that is quirky and fabulous to walk around, but the rooms are modern with fridges, tv's and spacious bathrooms. There are no elevators, so ask for help if you have trouble carrying bags upstairs. The location is very convenient to walk everywhere from the Bad Ass Coffee Shop downstairs to the ABC store across the street and plenty of restaurants including the excellent Bar & Grill attached to the Inn. They even have beach chairs and towels you can borrow to take to close-by Baby Beach. But by far, the best part of this hotel is the people who work there. Pattie, Kiley and Mark make you feel so comfortable, are so friendly and will help you with anything you need, with a smile on their face...even mailing an iPad that was left behind all the way to the mainland! Mahalo!
