We stayed at Marriott’s Kauai Beach Club, a Marriott Vacation Club property, on our way off the island. We booked an Ocean Front Parlor using hold points and got exactly what we wanted - a clean room with a true ocean view. The card named Carrie as the housekeeper, and she did an amazing job - the room was fully stocked and immaculate. Her hard work & that of other housekeepers earned the 4th star for this rating! We were less than impressed with the other employees we encountered. No one seemed happy to be working there. The bell staff seemed disenchanted, and yes, you have to use bell staff at this location. Front desk staff were not welcoming. In fact, we wanted in line for 20 minutes to check in & were improperly charged occupancy tax for a night that we did not actually occupy the room. We were incorrectly told that we had to check out by 10 am to avoid paying occupancy tax, which we knew to be wrong thanks to being educated in great detail about the occupancy tax law the previous year by the staff at Ko Olina Beach Club. This front desk employee had a real attitude— we chose not to argue with him. His behavior was indicative of the vibe we got from everyone else we encountered there. If not for the outstanding condition of our room, this would be a 2-3 star rating. We don’t plan to return to Marriott’s Kauai Beach Club unless it is the only location available on Kauai when we can travel. There are plenty of other lodging options available in Lihue. They don’t have the excellent beach front location of this resort, though, and the proximity to great restaurants. We might try the Royal Sonesta, though. It’s collocated & actually maintains the pool & grounds. The Royal Sonesta employees we encountered gave off the same type of vibe (disinterested, unhelpful, unwelcoming) as the Marriott Vacation Club staff, though. Just don’t expect a warm welcome at either location.

This is an older property that has a relationship of convenience with the more traditional hotel next door. The relationship is necessary to maintain because the (huge) pool and the restaurant are associated with the other property. We had an ocean front room that was truly ocean front. The view was great and we could hear the waves at night (with the door closed). The one disappointing aspect of the room was the so-called "French balcony" which means no balcony in this case. We use balconies at beach destinations, so could not use our room as fully at this location. We had one of the rooms with the traditional bed, so didn't face the issue of the Murphy bed. The room was spacious and had a comfortable small couch and chair with a table. The fridge was small, but larger than a dorm fridge. The freezer area was separate. There are also ice machines available if you just need ice. The relationship between the Marriott and the Sonesta may be strained. Some of the staff at the Sonesta were rude and didn't seem to concerned about what we had been told at the Marriott. This could have been the people that I interacted with (at the towel stand), but it is very much in the Marriott's interest to ensure that this relationship is solid and that guests of both properties are treated with respect. I was told "they are them, we are us" which was not encouraging. The airport shuttle is very convenient and seems to run constantly. The drivers were very courteous.

Love this hotel! I would go back every year if I could. Beautiful grounds and view, wonderful friendly staff! It is a great location if you don't rent a car, the local bus goes all the way to Poipu and also Princeville/Hanalei for $1.00.

The Marriott/Sonesta separation is well underway. We are MVC Owners at this resort. Our 2 bed/2 bath suite had an excellent ocean view and met our expectations. However, many of the common areas are under construction. Pool heater was out.

Ocean front room was amazing. Ocean view room had a view if you got out on the porch and leaned over to see. Room 343 had a view of the berm. Not what’s pictured in the booking. Mattress needed replaced. Big hump in middle. They did rotate the mattress when asked, but doing it 180 still leaves a big hump in the middle. Would not recommend this hotel. They sold the better half of the property to another resort and I’d stay there instead.

Booked on the Marriott app expecting a hotel. What we ended up in was a hotel out of the 90s. Old paint, faded wallpaper, old carpet etc, just tacky. Went to check in and one of the items covered was how to pull out bed. Clarified the bed is a pull out bed like a couch. Asked for a refund because I intended to book a real hotel not a tacky small apartment. They refused and the manager working obviously had given that explanation before. They said to call Marriott, which I did but they were no help and said only the hotel could refund. Had to pay $100 more for a room with a real bed. Over 700 nights in Marriott hotels and never had a bad experience until now. Why they allow this “hotel” on the app? Not sure but the Sheraton down the road in the same price range is a much better option.

This is written as a Marriott timeshare owner who has visited numerous other Marriotts. It has a nice location, with sheltered beach, and our room was nice (1 bedroom unit - think of two hotel rooms together, one a master BR and the other a den). The pull down wall bed in the den was comfortable and became useful because I was sick, as I slept out there to not wake up my wife coughing. For MVC owners used to washer/dryer in unit - there is not one. The main concern about the property is it is very large and there doesn't seem to be a direct short path to anything. We were in an oceanfront room, which is great, but the furthest from the lobby, so a long walk to the lobby. Then another long walk to get to parking lot. It would be a hassle bringing in groceries, etc. You don't just casually walk out to the pool and sit for a few minutes. For some people, that would be an issue. A nice place - we just didn't like the layout and it doesn't stack up next to other MVC properties.

As a MVC owner of many years who visits here every year in the Fall for a couple of weeks and who pays maintenance fees that increased an additional $406 per year this year, I was appalled to step into the pool and find it cold, not heated, and unable to enjoy as in years past. Even more appalling is planning for next year and finding out that the pool heater is still not repaired.

This is a beautiful hotel in location building rooms and amenities. Check in was fast and the grounds are Spectacular. Our room was a one bedroom suite with two bathrooms two balconies. It had a gorgeous ocean view. The beach and pool were fabulous. Restaurants on site excellent. We walked to plaza for awesome pizza. The beach and waves were so much fun. Poolside very comfy. Service was friendly. Really don’t understand the complaints. A wonderful spot!

As other reviewers have stated, this is part of a hotel that has been converted into a timeshare. Our 1 bedroom had a king bed and bathroom in 1 room. Walk through the connecting room door and it was set up as a living room with a kitchenette and another bathroom. Both rooms had covered balconies overlooking the pool, an ugly roof to one of the buildings and a view of the ocean. The pool is very nice and the beach/ocean is in a relatively calm cove. Staff is friendly. Property is well maintained. Layout is weird...timeshare building in midst of a hotel that is being renovated. We did not think construction was obtrusive. Weather was not kind during our visit...18 " of rain in a 5 day period. There are much nicer Marriott timeshare properties. If you do exchange, request a high floor...the lower you are the less ocean you can see!
