Taj and Marc were very accommodating to us during our stay at Anahata Sanctuary. We inquired on short notice for a short stay and appreciated the additional help we received. We stayed in the sleeping temple that they offer in their backyard and enjoyed use of the outdoor rain shower in the Spa. Their home is just outside of town and everything I saw on their website is an accurate description of their specialty B&B.
I'm from central U.S. and have used TripAdvisor for many destinations; since I didn't see Anahata Sanctuary on this site I thought it was my time to write a note. (This is my first written contribution to the site).

We found the Anahata Sanctuary by coincidence when we were travelling in Kauai. Taj and Marc shared their beautiful guesthouse and garden with us and we felt like we found the Hawaiian paradise.. They made us feel welcome and at home from the moment we arrived and also provided us with helpful advise on daytrips, cafes and restaurants. We also loved the breakfast where we were offered fresh tropical fruits from their garden, unforgettable. It is such a gem and I wish I will be back for another stay at the Anahata Sanctuary soon.

We were lucky enough to stay with Taj and Mark for a week. From the moment we arrived, we were taken care of and looked after. The house is peaceful with outside relaxation areas, beautiful landscaping and amazing views. The kitchen is well organized with ample food storage. The room we stayed in had a large window that allowed us to see the sunrise. We met a number of good people there among the guests and made some new friends. After each day exploring Kauai, returning to Anahata Sanctuary felt like coming home.

This is a very nice home but Taj doesn't offer breakfast or at least didn't for my 4 mornings there. She put out some cheap tea and a box of Costco biscotti which is not a healthy way to start the day. Where is the juice? Where is the fruit? Where is anything that would constitute a breakfast? What about a piece of bread? Nothing. Then on top of this deceptive advertising ( calling it a bed and breakfast ) Taj the cheapskate has the gall to promote her healing business and as if...I spent all my extra money on food... She will let you use the kitchen to boil water but doesn't want you to make meals there...what about breakfast? No there is NONE. Taj is also a phoney healer because deep down she's a money hungry poser. Nice house though, just would rather stay somewhere else given the lack of kind spirit from the host.

I was not very happy with the owner of this place. I was running out of time to find a place to stay prior to leaving for our trip. I found this place on both airbnb and the web. On airbnb she lists a room as the Jasmine Room, however it is not listed as such on her website. I emailed and called her to see if the Jasmine Room was available. She responded back "We do have availability. Right now, We have 3 rooms open -all rooms are double occupancy-The Jade Room - $75 (Queen) shares a beautiful bathroom down the hall. The Golden Room - $80 (Queen) shares a beautiful bathroom down the hall, the Om Suite- $95 (King)" but no mention of the Jasmine Room so I emailed her immediately that we'd take the Golden Room. I did not like the looks of the other rooms. I didn't hear from her so I called her and said we'll take the Golden Room and I left my visa information for her. She left a vm that she had sent me an email that the room was confirmed. So I think we're all set only to get an email from her a couple days later that "another couple booked the room the same day we did for a week (we were only taking it for 2 days)" so she gave it to them but would give us the Jasmine Room (which is not even mentioned on her site and was never offered to us as an option). I believe she was holding out for more money and was waiting to see if the other couple would rent for a week vs us for 2 days. So when they told her they wanted it, she canceled my reservation and took theirs. I was stunned that someone who runs a business like this would have such little integrity. I would never trust her. You might think you have the place booked but she has no problem canceling your reservation to take someone else's.

I wish I could give a better review, because the property and house is beautiful with a good vibe. But there was some issues that unfortunately were deal breakers. Our room (Golden) was BOILING hot with zero air circulation. We often travel to tropical climates, and usually do not have A/C because we don't really like it. We prefer fresh air and don't like resorts. But our room was literally unbearable. We could hardly sleep at night, sweated through our sheets, and my husband had an asthma attack one of the nights (he hasn't had one in years) from the heat and stuffiness.

The common areas of the house were a comfortable temperature. So it appears they just need to add ventilation so that air can flow through this room. We left the sliding door open with a fan in front of it most of the time, but it really didn't help that much. And we had multiple random people walk into our room by mistake (twice while I wasn't dressed) because it's off a common deck, so we weren't really that thrilled about leaving it open all the time. But had no choice.

An additional irritation was the scheduling process (but wasn't enough on its own to deter us). The owner responds about 25% of the time, so trying to make a reservation (and paying to "confirm" the reservation) was the most frustrating process I've ever had with booking accommodations. And I've managed to do it in remote destinations with far less hassle.

End of the day, we just didn't enjoy our stay, and it actually detracted from our enjoyment of the island because of how uncomfortable we were. And we've stayed at some funky places in our time....

I stayed twice this year and enjoyed my experience at Anahata. It is a lovely space, very open, lots of fresh air and a nice grounded energy. My room was perfect for my needs and the bed was quite comfortable. The outside deck and day bed were a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the warm breezes. One of the things that I really appreciated as a single traveller was the opportunity to meet and connect with some of the other guests. I found Taj and Marc to be friendly and helpful and would certainly stay there again.

Anahata Sanctuary was a beautiful oasis located in the most beautiful town of Kilauea on the north shore of Kauai! Taj's home is so welcoming and has such beautiful energy about it that arriving from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, it breathed a sense of calm and serenity into my being right away on entering through the front door. I felt like I was home and there are all the comforts you could possibly want and access to beautiful living areas and a well-equipped kitchen. Kilauea town is minutes away and has such a great selection of shops as well as a wonderful yoga studio!
There are lovely beaches and other sights to see just minutes from the home.
The building is centered on a beautiful garden and Taj has her healing rooms on the premises. My favourite thing to do was to lay on the large wooden day bed on the balcony upstairs overlooking stunning scenery in the afternoons and let the trade winds embrace me.
I stayed for a total of 7 or 8 nights and fell in love with not only Kauai but also this home!
I love love love this sanctuary! I felt so grateful for having stumbled upon it and only hope that when I return to Kauai that Taj will have a room available for me :)

A true sanctuary, Anahata is a lovely, special place that is centrally located on Kauai's north shore. I had a comfortable stay for a week as part of a group in late December (2011). The setting is gorgeous. I especially loved the healthy breakfasts that Taj, our host, served us - fresh, local fruits decorated with flowers picked from her tropical garden. I also found the space congenial - large enough to allow meditative privacy as well as easy interaction among fellow guests. Taj offers spa services that have a more spiritual than physical orientation - you won't find a hot tub here but can get a great massage and special offerings like sound healing - that add to the serenity of this amazing part of the world.

"There is different rooms on different floors to chose from and even a sleeping temple in the lush garden - view the different rooms and pictures on the Anahata Sanctuary homepage (www.anahatasanctuary.net/) and see what room feels best for you! My friend and I stayed in the downstairs Jasmine Garden room with private entrance and marble bathroom and enjoyed our stay very much."
