We booked this hotel last minute for a birthday, long weekend trip. Given some of the reviews we were a little nervous about what to expect but it turns out we had no need to be nervous-it was great! Our room was clean and nice, with a patio and relaxing ocean view. Bed was very comfortable. The room was always cleaned and restocked with fresh linens and toiletries by housekeeping daily. The AC worked perfectly. The front desk staff was helpful and nice. The parking was never an issue for us, though we are diamond level so we had our own parking lot area. The food at the beachside grill place (can’t recall the name of the place) was made to order and delicious and the drinks were good too. We didn’t get in the pool but it looked nice and if we’d stayed longer we probably would’ve. The public beach near the hotel was great and we really enjoyed it. We loved that it was only a short drive to the airport too. We would absolutely stay here again without hesitation!

I highly recommend this Hilton for anyone looking to stay in Kauai. It’s central location allowed us the option of exploring both the north and south part of the island, and the level of service we received was on PAR with a really high end property. We stayed there in June for 10 nights to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday and our anniversary, and we brought our 8 year old daughter with us. Since we are Diamond members with Hilton, we requested an upgrade if it was available. The manager, Ike Cockett, not only upgraded us but he had the most beautiful welcome basket with a bottle of champagne, local fruits, banana bread, snacks, and beach toys waiting for us in our room when we arrived. While our stay was not without issues, the staff was always quick to resolve them and surpass our expectations on every instance. We loved spending our evenings by the bar having food and drinks. The bartenders were very friendly and the area had a beautiful and relaxing view. There are also a bunch of very good local cheap restaurants within 5-10 minute drive. The hotel had some great breakfast options reasonably priced, with semi-outdoor seating with plenty of fresh air. We loved how it was so close to Smith’s luau and garden, and the Wailua river (right next to the hotel) offered kayaking, hiking, and waterfalls. We even took our 8 year old daughter for surfing lessons at the beach next to the resort (within 5 minutes). There is also a huge park with a playground right next to the property that our daughter loved to go to. I could go on and on about this property and the staff that made our stay so enjoyable and memorable. We will definitely be back!

Wanda at the front seat was awesome and helped us out with everything we needed! Honestly the interior of the hotel was dated compared to other comparable hotels on the island but the friendly staff more than made up for that. I also loved the outdoor areas

PROS: -Good location -Nice views -Friendly housekeeping staff CONS: -Dated property (except lobby) -Weak A/C units -Poor communication at front desk Overall, value for price is poor at an average of $320-$350/night. Simply not up to standard compared to other Hilton Garden Inn properties.

The front desk staff (Malik especially) were rude, unhelpful and disrespectful. The buildings are in dire need of renovation. Completely open to the elements and they have carpet?!? Although it wasn’t humid outside, it was muggy and sticky indoors, smelling of mildew. We paid for an ocean view and we received a room with a peek-a-boo view from a corner. Also, the seals on the windows were broken, in addition the windows were filthy so I couldn’t see the ocean if I wanted. Changed rooms and the new one overlooked a city parking lot with a view of water beyond. There is insufficient parking for guests, but this money-grubbing organization exacerbates the already poor parking situation by holding events on the grounds for the public?! The laundry has two washers and two dryers, only one of each was in operation and never available. My biggest pet peeve was the morning coffee service available in the lobby - NO TEA. I was told I could get a cup at the restaurant, but they wanted to charge me. I don’t know who is posting 4&5 star reviews, but they can’t possibly be legitimate. Stay anywhere else. This place is awful, and I’m not sure how Malik keeps his job, especially given his snarky replies to poor reviews.

Had such a great time and was treated so wonderfully by the staff. I felt a little ill from travel and Malik went out of his way to make sure I was well taken care of. The natural pool at the beach was my favorite and the Tiki bar was a great gathering spot!

We stayed here for three nights last week at the end of a two week trip in Hawaii. I do my research beforehand. I had some reservations about this place after reading countless negative reviews, but ultimately decided I’d probably be ok if I rented one of the Villa/cabins adjacent to main building. Albeit they cost twice as much, and we paid $1,200 for three nights. Figured the premium rooms would be of higher quality. Arrived at hotel and found the lobby and public areas charming and very inviting. Located almost right on the beach. Walk there in two minutes. The staff were all awesome! Especially the late night front desk lady on Thursday the 21st of April who summonsed somebody to take our soaking hiking sneakers to the hotel’s private basement laundry where they clean sheets and linenes late one night before our flight home the next day. We were having problems with the public self-service laundry and it was stealing our coins and not taking our cards. And we couldn’t fly home to the East Coast with soaking wet sneakers the next morning in checked bags. We we’re panicking! She called somebody from downstairs maintained//housekeeping. He came up and took us to the basement where he threw them into their commercial dryer for us. Saved the day! The woman working the bar was amazing, too, on night we checked in on April 18th. I’ve worked in customer service for 20 years and this lady had a great attitude and welcoming positive personality. She was a true asset to this hotel team! Now for the not so good… I’m usually extremely hesitant to leave negative reviews, but there were some issues with our stay. I’ve thought long and hard about it for a week before writing this review. I just can’t give this property more than three stars based on our individual experience only. This is an old hotel. While the public areas are very attractive. Grounds clean and well manicured, Location great, Other parts of the hotel are dated and showing wear and tear, slight neglect. For one, room corridors had textured popcorn ceilings. And you could tell just from the inside design this hotel it was probably built in the early 1980s? We peaked in some of the windows of the regular guest rooms in the main building, and from initiating impressions looking in the window I thought they didn’t look as dated and worn out as the trend in the reviews I’ve read. I thought I would’ve been happy in one of those and maybe I should’ve just booked a standard room? We got to our cabin or Villa, or whatever they called it. (I thought that it was a whole entire private cabin, but it was actually a duplex with a wall dividing us in the next room over. It was probably about than 450 sq feet. ) The cabin was older. but it had some modern updates such as new flooring and furnishing. But again, just from the design you could tell this wasn’t built in recent decades. I think maybe at one point this was completely separate from the adjacent Hilton Garden Inn and maybe the hotel purchased it? Immediately upon entering the room there was a funky smell! It kind of reminded me of going to an old vacation cabin in the woods somewhere that’s shut up and musty. However, I don’t know if it was must, or if it was some kind of scented cleaning solution they might use? It was kind of funky. Not gross, but not something fresh. The front entrance door needed a coat of paint and had some rust around the edges of it. The wall-mounted AC came out the side of the building, an older AC unit. It was also a bit loud at night. The shower had visible mold in the caulking and there was a fairly suspicious stain on the paint on wall next to toilet that would’ve have resembled what body fluid looks like under a black light. I think it might’ve just been a bleach stain from room cleaning on top of the purple paint, but it was still kinda off-putting. (See photo) The King mattress wasn’t that comfy. Kind of worn out and sagging. The bedsprings that the mattress rested on top of were so squeaky that it was impossible to have any kind of intimacy with my girlfriend because of the spring noise! It was ridiculous loud and we were trying to be quiet! We eventually gave up before they started poundeing on the wall in the next room over. It was almost kind of funny! There were no extra pillows in closet and the sheets and flimsy. I don’t know if these cabins are powered by an off-grid regenerator, but we also couldn’t get good current coming through the electric sockets. Either through a plug, or by plugging our gadgets USB cord’s into the USB ports installed next to the bed. They would charge for a few seconds and then the charger cut off. Couldn’t connect to hotel WiFi in the cabin and digital room key feature was INop. The final night when we were bringing our laundry back, we got into the elevator on the south wing and there was this enormous cockroach climbing up the elevator door, which we killed. I’d been trying to tell myself this place wasn’t that bad for the last two days, maybe a little old, but then that happened and sealed the deal. Think I should have maybe stayed somewhere else? While it wasn’t completely terrible, it was kind of a disappointment for $400 a night, I felt almost like camping in a musty old cabin. The 10 nights before, we’d that on different island and had an amazing suite at another Hilton Resort property, I’m a Hilton Diamond member and I have stayed at Hilton Garden Inn’s plenty before. I know it’s not Curio Collection by Hilton, but expected the cabin to be slightly nicer than it was for twice the price of the regular rooms. I think I should have just paid $200 a night for a standard room.. Or maybe gotten an AirbnB. Perhaps the trend in reviews mentioning dated and worn out rooms were true?

We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn on Kauai in for a week April. We booked the vacation through Costco. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The hotel offered complementary coffee in the morning and juice in the afternoon. The location was convenient being midway between the north and south beaches and close to shopping, dining and activities. The staff was very friendly. I deducted one star for dining. The only option for dinner is Mamahune’s Tiki Bar. It was self-serve sometimes. When we wanted water to drink the server pointed to the cooler near the bar for us to use. One evening we were told to order at the counter. If the restaurant area in the hotel was open for dinner as well as breakfast it would be nice. Breakfast inside had great service and was delicious. The two pools were nice but modest for a resort. Lydgate beach is a short walk from the hotel and has showers and restrooms. No fault of the hotel but there was lots of driftwood on the beach from storms.

We checked in on a Sunday night, and upon entering our room (Room 1243), we were smacked by a strong aroma of... MILDEW. In the morning, we were informed that the motel was booked and we could not change rooms. Staff noted that they would request a "deep clean" while we were out sightseeing on Monday. Upon our return Monday evening, we were now greeted by MILDEW plus an over-aroma of strong cleaning chemicals. It was hard to breathe. Desk staff said this mildew problem was news to them and that they did not track "problem" rooms. Right. We never actually spoke to the manager as she was apparently in a 3-hour meeting all morning. Fortunately, Costco was able to move us over to the Royal Sinesta (an actual resort). Except for the airy lobby, this entire motel needs to be scraped. Beware!

Staff was wonderful, but the hotel is dated and our room smelled like mold. There was mold around the tub. They need to update this hotel. It's a great location and the grounds are nice. I would come back if the rooms were renovated.
