First time of many, we hope! Umauma Falls cottage is SO cute and relaxing, and the hot tub a welcome treat after a rainy windy hike at night down the Devastation Trail to see the lava and eruption. Had a great sleep, enjoyed our delicious in-room breakfast of fruits, eggs and great coffee, and were up with the dawn light to explore around the caldera and see the Steam Vents, Sulphur Banks, and Lava Tube. Back in our cosy room (only 2.5 mi fm Park entrance) by 10am, just as the crowds were trickling in. The staff here is soooooo accommodating, kind and friendly, and the surrounding gardens are lush and gorgeous. There are many considerate touches to make your stay a success such as flashlights and umbrellas, and the text concierge/staff assistance is fantastic. Give yourself a treat and stay here while visiting Volcano! Two nights would have been ideal. Only note is our cottage Umauma Falls is indeed a private entrance, but it’s also near the staff storerooms, so more foot traffic than we expected. Very quiet by night. Thanks to all at Volcano Estates!

We spent the 3rd leg of our Hawaiian Island family vacation at Volcano Village Estates last week. This included my husband and I, our 3 adult children, two with spouses and one grandchild. Each family had their own cottage, staying at Umauma Falls, Rainbow Falls, Onomea and Nanue, so all near each other with privacy when we needed it. The resort has great shared spaces to hang out after our busy days at the park or exploring the area. Breakfasts were delicious and easy. We loved the hot tub and the rainforest retreat feel of the estates. What was fantastic, was the customer service. With flight delays requiring an after-hours check-in, Carlos was in touch via text with resort maps, WIFI info, and an after-hours phone number to be sure we had everything we needed when we arrived. (BTW, it was easy to find the resort in the dark with GPS and trees lite with white lights) Pua was a great source of information about local activities, and made sure we had the common space we needed, including opening up an extra cottage space for us one evening. She made a birthday surprise for our son happen seamlessly! Then, when I inadvertently left a small credit card wallet in my room, they found it, and mailed it back home! Their outstanding service was equaled to their respect for our privacy and their love for the Volcano area. We all highly recommend the Volcano Village Estates as your home base while visiting the area.

I just finished a 2-week visit to Hawaii and this is the coolest most unique place I stayed. I visited one of the Bungalows here for 2 nights to see the volcano glow, definitely recommend. This experience made me feel like I was camping while also catering to my need for running water and all the comforts of home. It was perfect! Each bungalow is a standalone "tiny home" with normal hotel bed/bedding, shower, toilet, etc. but all the amazing sounds of rainforest and nature at your fingertips. They really thought of everything, including a powerful flashlight which was sorely needed on my night hikes! I've previously camped in the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador and this experience reminded me of that - I felt very immersed in the rainforest the entire time I stayed there. I liked how Volcano Village Estates is not inside the national park, so you're a little removed from the chaos and hustle and bustle, but it's literally a 5 minute drive or less, so you can take advantage of hikes in the middle of the night when you'll see the best volcano views and no one else will be around. I did my hike at 3 AM, was back at the hotel by 5 AM, and slept peacefully until 12 PM! The in-room breakfast is a sweet and unique touch; I enjoyed the fresh fruit that was included each day. I didn't really interact with the staff very much while I was there because I was always away from the hotel until it was past sundown. That being said, it was cool to have all the luxuries of a hotel while feeling like I had the whole grounds to myself. Staff was very responsive via text message from start to finish. On the second day of my stay, I drove a short trip to the Black Sand Beach. It was definitely more accessible to drive there from Volcano than from Kona or Hilo. There is ample parking and the entrance is well-lit, but there were a few times I think I was the only person staying on the entire property and will admit it was a bit spooky. The flashlight definitely helped. The only other downside is that I accidentally booked 3 nights when I was only staying for 2, but still got charged for all 3.

If you’re looking for a quiet and peaceful vacation in a surreal location, surrounded by the beauty of the wild rainforest and the mighty volcano, this is the place! Staff are incredibly nice here, the rooms are beautiful! Place is clean, romantic and very calming. We booked 2 private workshops here, which were both great (Lei making and Dancing). There are hot-tubs, and there is breakfast served to your room! We really had hard time leaving this place!!

Just a superb place close o the Volcano National Park. Quiet, clean and we were well looked after. The team catered for my coeliac condition and the Gluten Free Macadamia Nut Pancakes on our last morning at as out of this world. Thank you! To top it off the bed in the junior suite had the best heated blanket we have come across. Highly recommended

Very nice place to stay, close to Volcano National Park. Carlos was very welcoming and he made sure to check-in via text to make sure we had everything we needed. We stayed in the Rainbow Falls cottage, which was cozy and cute. It was nice having breakfast ready for you the night before so that you could just heat it up and go when you felt like it.

Great location SO close to Volcano Park! Very quaint rooms with comfortable beds. Beautiful jungle setting. But not serving a hot breakfast unfortunately. Just something cold to warm up yourself in a microwave, not really bed & breakfast service.

We chose the Volcano Village Estates mainly for its excellent location just outside Volcano National Park. It made for very easy access to the park, day and night, and we made several trips into the park during our short 1 night stay. We wish it could’ve been longer! There are several eating establishments just across the highway in Volcano Village. We opted for a Thai dinner at the local bar and bistro. Our room was one of several units in the most modern block. We found it to be very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Modern conveniences included free Wifi (but no TV), bar fridge, coffee maker, heater, and fan. We had a nice view of the rainforest outside our sliding glass door – magical. We even slept with the door open so to hear all the wonderful night sounds. The shower and bathroom were roomy and very nice. The breakfast was great. Delivered the evening before, it comprised tropical fruits and French toast which we heating up in the microwave – delicious! Our host, Carlos, was very friendly and helpful and made us feel right at home. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend this place to all other travellers looking for a comfortable and handy base near Volcano Park.

We spent 2 nights in the Pele suite. Carlos was very welcoming and helpful during check in process. He had granola bars delivered to the unit knowing we were hiking the Kilauea Iki Trail the next day. The unit was very comfortable and clean. Kitchen area was perfect for enjoying the complimentary baked goods & fruits delivered daily. We also used for dinner takeaways. Pleasantly surprised to have a private hot tub which was helpful after a day of hiking.
