Our stop at this hotel was horrible. We were treated like 2nd class citizens by the front desk and when we finally got a room it was awful. We had 2 pillows on the bed that were the size of throw pillows, one bath towel, 2 hand towels, 2 face clothes, and the toilet roll holder was falling off the wall. We tried to get more towels to no avail. The shower was filthy. I was supposed to be grateful that they had given me this room. We went to the pool which wasn't much better. There were 5 children there, who were not staying at the hotel. They had set up a lounge chair at an angle that they were running up and jumping into the pool. That wasn't dangerous enough so they started standing on top of the rails of the stairs and jumping in. Their caregiver was too busy reading a book even to care. A hotel employee walked by but I guess he didn't have the time to care either. Seeing as the pool is wide open to anyone it should not have surprised me to see a group of construction workers walk through the pool area from the ocean area. We were only staying one night and at 5:00 PM we weren't very hopeful of getting a room at another hotel. The one good thing I can say is the restaurant in the hotel is excellent.…
Pretty pricey to come with cockroaches. Serious concerns about the cleaning standards. After finding live cockroaches crawling around the desk, I pulled the desk away from the wall to find dead cockroaches, a dirty fork, bits of garbage. The lobby is lovely, looks recently renovated. However, the rooms are dated. And it is located right next to what looks like an dilapidated, abandoned motel - pool chairs have a great view of boarded up windows and graffiti.
The location of this hotel is excellent with lovely views over the water if you have an ocean view room. The decor is certainly getting very dated and tired but the comfy beds made up for it. Not sure why hotels in Hawaii are still not providing housekeeping as there is little evidence of COVID in the community now. It was still possible to get fresh towels and toiletries if needed.
Comfortable beds, big room, very practical balcony with amazing Mauna Kea views and ocean, very friendly service, available laundry. There was not much noise from other rooms. The location is great for morning runs and 5 minutes car to town center. Thanks!
We stayed in a suite. It was very spacious. The staff was very accommodating about letting us check-in early after a long car ride. They also allowed us to check-out late since we had an early evening flight. Food at WSW Steakhouse was phenomenal.
The practice of charging $30 per day for a "resort fee" they charge all guests when you check-in is tacky to say the least. They should include the extra "fee" in the cost of the room. There is nothing above and beyond any "regular" hotel to justify the money grab here. There is NO complimentary breakfast, NO room service, NO maid service, the most basic pool I've ever seen at a hotel with no changing rooms, yet they want to call themselves a "resort." The rooms are dated, minimal and dark. They can and need to do better than this, but they won't change as long as people keep giving them money. The value is just not here to justify the cost of this place. For the money, you would be better off paying for a b&b. You'll get bigger rooms and beds, a kitchenette, and the exact same breakfast and maid service that they provide you with here.…
The Hilo Hawaiian hotel is in a great location with fabulous views. She just feels a bit tired & dated… staff were friendly & helpful. Our room was clean, but could do with an update (wall paper was coming away from the wall, carpet was worn, bathroom dark). If you visit Hilo- make sure to head north, into the old centre. It’s also dated, but gorgeous.
We reserved three rooms for our family. Two rooms were decent. The third room had cockroaches in the bathroom and near the small refrigerator. We called the front desk, and they moved us to a different room without any questions. But we continued to look for roaches throughout our stay, and could not relax. Plenty of parking; great friendly staff; restaurant was very good. Because we had to move from one room, our family was not as close together as we would have liked, but they were able to keep us on the same floor. The location was great - we wanted to be in the city, but close enough for day and night trips to the volcano.
Born Hilo, good to view Hilo in a different way. Maybe build a pool booth for the towel girls and have a more secure surrounding to keep out non-customers? But it’s a great place for a staycation. 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Great hotel. Clean, spacious rooms. Friendly and responsive staff. Plenty of parking spaces. Convenient location. Great to walk next door to Liliuokalani Gardens and Coconut Island, and close by Reeds Bay Beach Park. Drive 5 minutes to Farmer's Market and so many eateries. Drive 15 minutes to Rainbow Falls. We will stay there again in our next visit.
