This hotel exceeded our expectations from the moment we arrived. The two young gals at the front desk couldn’t wait to share the SCP philosophy, tell us about the fantastic hotel amenities and area activities, make recommendations. I had to run out and get my friend in the middle of checkin so she could hear all of the wonderful information. Bicycles and paddle boards to use, coffee, tea, gams and welcome drink of fresh brewed Kombucha. The rooms and bathrooms are small but modern and the room amenities including hair dryer, clothes steamer and refrigerator. The A/C worked great, lots of windows. Could have used more outlets for charging electronics near the bed. Loved the pool- zen vibe. Hotel is great location- looked at several other hotels while we were here that we didn’t choose to solidify our decision and we made the best decision!…
This is the perfect place for a quick girlfriends getaway. The ambiance is amazing, beautiful artwork and the staff was very friendly. We had such a nice time just hanging out near the beautiful pool.
Overall, my partner and I had a pleasant stay at SCP Hilo. However, in retrospect, we wish we had spent more time in Kona as there are more resorts and restaurants on that side of the island, and less choice in Hilo. Hilo also felt a bit run down (lots of stores boarded up/permanently closed, restaurants that closed early, large homeless population). So overall, if we visited again we would probably choose to stay in Kona. Having said that, if you’re looking for somewhere to stay to be close to the Volcanoes National Park, then this is a good option in Hilo. However, for the price, the rooms are only so-so. The building and infrastructure is quite old/dated, and the room was very small, particularly the bathroom (King Bed Bay View room). But the room was clean and they have modernized the decor. The view from the room was also very nice (photos attached). However, worth noting that there was no safe in our room to store valuables while you’re out and about. In terms of the facilities, the hotel have beautiful gardens and a huge pool with plenty of poolside seating, as well as tables and chairs in a covered area just off to the side of the pool. There is also a communal office space and laundry facilities ($3 per wash or dry cycle, just under $2 for laundry detergent). There’s also coffee, tea, filtered water and kombucha on tap at reception. SCP have a great focus on environmental sustainability, so there are mugs/cups that get washed and no single use plastic (which is awesome!). The staff were also super friendly and accommodating. There was also free parking onsite and we never had an issue finding a park. Bottom line: a good option if staying in Hilo with great amenities, but the hotel itself is quite old and the rooms small.…
Me and my wife just needed 2 days to our selves.. and we chose SCP here in hilo Hawaii. Perfect choice room is comfortable staff was friendly and the live music was Amazing perfect location right in town .. Best decision!
The location of the hotel is so convenient and both inside and out looked well managed and cared for. It was an incredible experience for myself and my ‘Ohana. The staff is helpful and each have attitudes that make you feel tight at home. Definitely the place for us when we make our next trip to Hilo. Mahalo nui for the aloha.
My stay at the Hilo Seaside Hotel was a memorable and enjoyable stay. It brought back memories when we used to frequent the Big Island, we would stay at this hotel. Besides the history of the hotel showing how high the tsunami had twice hit on the window of the café, it gives a true sense of localness. From the cleanliness, to the location, and a really comfortable bed made my stay pleasant. The room outside of the pool with enclosed lanai where we sat as a family to have our dinner was first-rate. Most important was the Aloha displayed by the staff was emanate. Mahalo plenty for a wonderful and lovely stay. Me Kealoha pumehana, Kawahine Kamakea-Ohelo
Excellent location, really pleasant and clean rooms, but the thing that makes this such a good place to stay are the staff. Everyone was incredibly helpful and generous with their time. When we travel inter island, we always stay with Family. The aloha and hospitality here made us right at home, adding to a memorable experience for our Ohana vacation.
I stayed here overnight, and it was very pleasant. I slept so well, I felt like I was on clouds! I was well rested for my long day and so glad the property is in a such a convenient area. The beautiful decor, warm-welcoming staff, and comfy rooms made the stay amazing. I love the property, I wish I had more time to hang out in the beautiful pool. I will definitely be back, and staying at SCP Hilo Hotel Thank you to everyone who made my trip an enjoyable one! Aloha & see you all soon.
We stayed here so we could visit the volcanoes. Came in around 4 from Honolulu. The hotel is on a beautiful property on the bay. We settled in and went to Hilo for dinner figuring there would be shopping and things to do there. 615 reservation and all the stores where closed in downtown Hilo. So we came back to the hotel figuring we could swim or go to the pool. The sunset much earlier then Honolulu so no bay swimming and unfortunately the pool closed at 7. That left us no other fun options.
Booked a stay at SCP Hilo Hotel as an overnight stay in Hilo as we toured the South and East sides of the Big Island. It is certainly undergoing a physical change (mostly in the Front of House), however the layout of the hotel and rooms left a lot to be desired. The architecture is from the 1950's/ 60's, and the layout is very dis-orienting. Infrastructure is very dated.
