Husband and I just returned from a 4 night stay at Chanticleer Guest House and would recommend anyone looking for a cozy, woodsy getaway in a serene and peaceful location.

Aesthetic: Beautiful setting in gorgeous gardens with lush flowers. Each room has a balcony with scenic views. Ours overlooked the garden and in the morning, we could see the sheep grazing in the next field.

Amenities: There is a pool on the grounds which is heated and very relaxing. There is also a sauna attached to the pool. You have access to bikes and plenty of hiking trails (we realized on the last day that the hiking trails extend across the street from the guest house). You will have breakfast brought to your room each morning in a picnic basket at the time of your choosing, I think in the past they used to have a communal breakfast but now they are taking reasonable precautions with COVID. You can sit on your balcony overlooking the sheep and gardens and enjoy breakfast in your pajamas.

Food: Breakfast served each morning to your doorstep in an adorable picnic basket, includes coffee and juice. Food was delicious each morning, made with fresh ingredients included a nice variety of fruits, veggies and always came with a side of fruit. Example breakfasts are omelet with zucchini, tomatoes, and onion; French toast with seasonal cherries; zucchini bread. Husband and I have high standards for food and had no complaints.

Location/convenience: This place is located about 10 mins drive from downtown Sturgeon Bay where there is shopping and restaurants, plenty open even with COVID. There are a few state parks nearby - Potawatomi is the closest, about 15 mins drive. Overall this is a good place for someone looking for a relaxing, restorative experience in a pleasantly secluded location. Husband and I had no issue driving around door county when we left the guest house for other activities, traffic was light and there are few stop lights.

I had the loft room, which had a separate stairway from a sitting area down to the pool area in addition to the regular door. Have to watch your head coming in the main door. The bed was low as it was in a cubby with a low ceiling. Large bathroom nicely appointed with plush towels provided. Mini-fridge in the room. Breakfast is not communal but brought to your door at the time of your choosing between 8 and 10. The breakfast was very nice and included a different hot dish each day. The grounds are expansive with well-maintained paths for a stroll, a pond, lots of flowers, and sheep grazing. There was a large jacuzzi tub right in my room (not in the bathroom), which I enjoyed. There's a gas fireplace opposite it you could light in the winter.

This was our annual post-Christmas gift to each other and truly an oasis in the midst of the Pandemic! The rooms are immaculately clean, the Innkeepers are friendly and helpful but respecting of privacy; innkeepers wear masks, and a delicious, complete breakfast basket was delivered to our door, each morning. Rarely if ever did we see another guest! Surroundings are country chic with modern amenities, very tranquil and restful. Set in the lovely countryside but only minutes from Sturgeon Bay, this is truly the best of both worlds! If you are seeking quiet, privacy, charmingly appointed and comfortable suites, and connection to nature then the Chanitcleer is the place to stay! Ann & Mike

It was wonderful seeing the two of you last week (even behind those masks), and thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. And a huge thank you for writing down the steps to follow after a positive covid-19 test. My sister is doing fine, as well as my parents. Happy New Year and we are counting the days until your next visit.

Where do you go for a COVID vacation that is
Drive-able from St. Louis
Offers privacy and quiet when you get there
Allows you to eat breakfast in your cabin
Gives you a kitchen and grill if you want to cook, and avoid restaurants
Is beautiful on the inside and the outside
Answer is the cabins at at The Chanticleer Inn.

We spent 5 fabulous nights at The Hemlock cabin, and are already trying to figure out when we can go back. When you are headed to Door County, the peninsula between Green Bay and Lake Michigan, the natural thought is “on the water”, but during COVID, “on the water” was a little more crowded that we cared to be. Well, we saw plenty of water in 5 days, and our nightly trip back home to our quiet cabin was the way to go.

Newport State Park at the top of Door County is one of only 48 recognized “dark sky” places in the world. Guess what, You don’t need to drive the hour at night to go to the park. The view of the sky and stars outside your back porch is amazing.

Bryonn & Darrin have not missed any details when it comes to this place. Our breakfast was delivered very morning precisely at 8:30 with Darrin running down the walkway, basket in hand.( see the pictures for a couple of the breakfast dishes) The country rib dinner plate below is our dinner we made at the cabin!

We are picky and spoiled relative to accommodations. This is one of the best places that we have ever stayed.

What a beautiful property on acres of well maintained lush gardens. One of the most beautiful and decorated Bed and Breakfast "I've seen. A perfect place for romantic get away or anniversary,or relaxing time with your friends or loved one. The host is so kind and welcoming and attentive to all your needs for a perfect stay.I want to be honest we were told to check this place out and we were in the area and the Host Darrin let us walk around the property which is very private and safe. I hope to stay here when I visit the Sturgeon Bay area again! Did I mention how beautiful the pool is? Well it is. The goats are cute too!

Tranquility, serenity, and country luxury is what you get staying at Chanticleer. I honestly don't think that they've missed any small detail in providing their guests with an amazing stay. I'm told that the lovely couple are new owners of the Guest House for about a year now. Based on our experience with our stay, I get the impression that they truly do stride in providing an amazing getaway for their guests. I love that it's so quiet out here and away from all the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas, yet close enough to jump in the car and travel up the peninsula. The breakfast delivered in the morning right to your door in a cute basket all the way to the warm cookies that greet you on your return home in the afternoon, speaks volumes to their attention to detail. We got to see some of the other rooms that were not occupied, and every single one was decorated with an upscale farmhouse motif. Kudos to the new owners in keeping up with what I see from past reviews has always been an amazing experience at the Guest House.

We never stayed at the Chanticleer B&B in Sturgeon Bay, WI. I booked a very expensive cabin ($340.00+). We attended the EAA Fly-in at Oshkosh, WI in July 2023. There are many hundreds of thousands of attendees and all hotels, B&Bs and rental cars in almost the entire state of Wisconsin are booked for that week in July, normally a year in advance.
Very late, the manager at the Chanticleer B&B wrote and informed me that he had made a mistake and over booked. I thought "overbooking only happened with the airlines! My room was no longer available. I could find no other property to book in Sturgeon Bay on such late notice.
The manager did apologize, but this experience was a very great inconvenience for us. I worked in Health Care for many years and these sort of "mistakes" would have cost my patients their health if not their lives.
Please, be more careful!!

We enjoyed this beautiful B&B for it's lovely gardens and ponds, beautiful hiking trails, delicious breakfast brought to our room every morning and the refreshing swimming pool. It's a great retreat for adults only so you can really relax. Darrin and Bryon are the perfect hosts. We highly recommend this lovely property for a nice relaxing vacation. It's immaculate!

New owners took over just a month before we arrived and the transition was absolutely smooth. Breakfasts were uniformly excellent, there were freshly baked, delicious cookies daily (my partner and I argued every day about which flavor was best). We really enjoyed exploring the grounds, soaking in our whirlpool tub, and going for a swim after a long day of exploring Door County. We hit a deer on our last night and the owners spent over an hour trying to help us find an open mechanic and cleaning/repairing the damage enough to get us home when we couldn't find anywhere. Truly I will be forever grateful for their exceptional service.

In terms of our specific accommodation, the Rose Room, I loved the two-level floorplan with fainting couch. I could move to somewhere quiet on nights with lots of snoring. However, there was a curtain, rather than a door, between the main sleeping area and the bathroom, so perhaps choose a different suite if you're prone to GI issues.

Are pets allowed
Answer from Dawn and Rick
Unfortunately, we do not allow pets at the Chanticleer. Door County Kennels, located south of Egg Harbor, is an option for pet boarding if you do want to bring your dog or cat with you on vacation.
