Detailed Reviews
My wife and I came here for our 3rd anniversary and we are so glad we did. If I had to sum up the experience in one word that would be simple: ROBIN! She made our time there so special. I can't go into some details because she went so far beyond the norm. But suffice it to say she was listening carefully to the breakfast conversations and she then did some little things that made all the heavenly difference. And the BREAKFASTS were amazing every morning, worth the stay alone compared to any B&B just offering continental service. We never ate lunch any of the 4 activity days because we were full and waited for dinner. Plus the delicious nightly baked treats that meant we didn't ever have to buy dessert in a local restaurant. We spent 5 nights in the Cottage Rose and found it to be spacious and delightfully out of the way at the end of the hallway farthest from the stairs (which do squeak quaintly). The bathroom is also decently sized, with a nice bathtub that has the book-reading recline back. Don't let the shipyard right across the street to the south scare you. The location is convenient to travel in the local area and all over Door Co. Their noise isn't much heard other than the romantic ship's whistle that calls out for shift changes (e.g., every 7 am). I sleep with ear plugs and had no issues with noise. Parking is easy (4 spaces, 2 each on opposite sides of the front porch). Robin knows the area well, so we trusted her advice on local restaurants (so much so that we ate twice at Trattoria dal Santo, just down N. 3rd Ave. to the East, loving our appetizers & meals!) and things to do (both the experience of taking a tractor-pulled hayrack ride across Lake Michigan to Cana Island Lighthouse and the natural wonders of Cave Point Co. Park & next door Whitefish Bay Dune State Park. So if you want to experience Door Co. in classic style & warm comfort you won't go wrong here! Thank you Robin. You made our stay so romantic & inviting.

Garden Gate B&B in Sturgeon Bay was a great location to stay for 2 nights so we could explore Door County. Parking was right out front. The Cottage Rose room was beautifully decorated and very clean and comfortable. I enjoyed reading on the window seat in the morning before my husband woke up. There was coffee available early morning in the hallway, yummy baked sweets were put out in the evening, and tea bags were available at all times with mugs and a microwave to heat water. Water bottles were also provided, although the tap water was good to drink too. There was a small shared refrigerator where we could put a few items that needed to be cool. The bathroom was large with a nice tub/shower combo, the towels were large and soft, and shampoo and soap was provided along with a hair dryer. Scrumptious breakfast was served at 9am in the beautiful dining room. We were asked in advance whether we had any food allergies or preferences. All I can say is YUM! Although we aren’t usually big breakfast eaters, we enjoyed the delicious breakfasts both days and took the fresh baked muffins with us for a snack while we were out sightseeing. Robin, thank you for a wonderful visit, we could tell you love what you do and your Inn is just stunning! We would definitely stay again!

As a newly married couple, my husband and I decided to stay at the Garden Gate Bed and Breakfast in Sturgeon Bay in August after LOTS of research. We are a young couple and weren't sure if we would like staying in an old Victorian home with different couples/parties in each bedroom. However, the Garden Gate had great reviews and we love the Door County area, so we booked for 3 nights on a whim. Upon arrival, Robin was so kind, courteous, and helpful. She helped us find a place to safely chain our bikes on the property, offered to help find restaurants or activities in the area, and was genuinely interested to hear about our day when we got back from our adventures each night. She even set aside time at breakfast one morning to watch our parasailing video when she had other guests' meals to attend to. She is an INCREDIBLE hostess - it's so evident that she is doing what she loves. Unbelievably, she is an even more incredible chef. I've never been that satisfied after a breakfast... My husband and I ate so much more (and so much better) than we ever thought possible on a trip. It was hard for us to leave at the end of our stay and we honestly debated adding another night just to enjoy the food one last time. As someone with fairly severe and unusual food allergies that require me to carry an epipen, Robin ran every meal and its ingredients by me to make me feel comfortable. I can't thank her enough for her kindness and compassion. We stayed in the Lavender Suite and really enjoyed the spacious balcony and the fantastic whirlpool tub. Truly, though, one of our favorite parts about the trip was the memories we made over breakfast conversation with the other couples and with Robin. I didn't think I would enjoy sharing my morning with others as a more private person, but was genuinely surprised and thankful for the camaraderie. We have no complaints and can't wait for another excuse to come back and treat ourselves to a stay at the Garden Gate! Thank you, Robin, for letting us be your guest!

It is obvious from first meeting Robin that she loves to be a hostess. She showed us around the property, spelling out the amenities, like a shared refrigerator on the second floor, for guests, and stocked with sodas and water; cookies and cake available all the time, as well as hot tea, along with a microwave. Our room was tight, but made up for with a roomy bathroom, a ceiling fan, and windows that we could open for fresh air. The bed was very comfortable, and we slept soundly until the aroma of fresh baking muffins woke us.
Breakfast was very filling and delicious, and we were able to take away the chocolate chip banana muffin (SO tasty!) that my husband didn't eat. Since breakfast isn't served until 0900, we got a later start on the day than we had first planned.
The house is spotless. She is still able to serve the delicious full breakfast because she has enough room to spread out guests safely.

We stayed at the Garden Gate for a long weekend getaway as a couple. Robin was a warm and welcoming hostess and made our stay comfortable and fun. The breakfasts were delicious, huge, and beautifully presented! We appreciated that breakfast started a bit later (9am) than at other B&Bs since it made the mornings feel less rushed. (And if you get hungry earlier, there is coffee and cake available for guests by 7.) We stayed in the Lavender Suite which was cute and cozy yet spacious. Everything was very clean, and the bed was so comfortable that we didn't want to come home to our own soft and lumpy mattress! We also loved the B&B's walkability to downtown Sturgeon Bay and the room's private balcony for eating takeout dinners (during the COVID era). All in all, an excellent stay!

My wife and I have visited many B&B's in all parts of Wisconsin. The Garden Gate ranks as one of our best experiences. The rooms are exceptionally clean, the breakfasts included an appetizer, a great entree with flavorful ingredients and homemade yummy desserts. During our two night stay, we were too full to even eat the dessert at the table. Our wonderful innkeeper, Robin, packaged them up in foil for an afternoon snack while we toured Door County. Our room had full cable TV with access to Netflix. In the hallway are two refrigerators for use by guests. It was nice to stay in a B&B where the innkeeper is friendly and takes a genuine interest in visiting with people. When we arrived Robin showed us a plaque that she said she lives by: we came as strangers but leave as friends. She is truly a five star inkeeper.

+1
I can’t say enough about Robin’s hospitality! She’s warm and friendly, and it’s obvious she absolutely loves hosting guests. The breakfast she made was delicious, filling, and different each morning. She even wrapped muffins so we could take them hiking. She left coffee near the guest rooms in the morning before breakfast time and set out homemade desserts at night. The room was clean and had everything we needed. We will absolutely be back!

The inn keeper Robin is very welcoming and accommodating. She went above and beyond to ensure all of our expressed needs were met. Breakfast is served at 9am sharp and all guests planning to attend must eat together at that time. She is an excellent breakfast cook. The house is maintained well and the rooms stay cool at night. The ceiling fan in the room is also very quiet. Overall it was great stay.

We had a wonderful experience staying at the Garden Gate Bed and Breakfast. From the initial phone call to checking out, we were totally charmed by Robin, the owner.
Staying in this beautiful, over one hundred year old home allows you to step back in history, but still enjoy all the technological advancements on which we rely.
Our room was a delight, with any amenity one could desire. Ironed pillow cases, an over abundance of fluffy towels, charming bathroom, and gorgeous, antique bed, a large flat screen tv, are just a few memorable details.
Above and beyond all this, Robin is an exceptional person. She is a treasure trove of information to anyone new to Sturgeon Bay. Robin recommended that we dine at Dal Santo, just walking distance away, and we had an amazing dinner there with classic service and food.
A lovely, homemade desert was awaiting us on a table outside our room upon our return.
Breakfast was served on fine china in an elegant dining room. Conversation was lively and the food abundant and beautifully prepared. Fruit was served in crystal bowls. Homemade banana, walnut and raspberry muffins, and a main egg souffle type dish were delicious.
This owner has thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable and easy. Having her wi-fi address engraved on the beautiful, silver room key is another example of the little touches that make staying at Garden Gate so special.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at a beautiful B & B in Sturgeon Bay. The rooms were decorated with thoughtfulness and charm. We enjoyed the Lavendar room with a jacuzzi tub and private deck. One can tell Robin takes pride in her home. Cleanliness was noted and appreciated! Loved the ceiling fan option. The breakfast were plentiful and delicious. She is very conscientious about her guests allergies and dislikes. An unexpected bonus was the nightly treats placed in the hall along with a little refrigerator filled with water and soda, plus coffee, tea, and microwave. A stay here won't be a disappointment!
