The hotel is located on the other side of the river, so you’d need to drive to the downtown. Besides the room was very nice and clean. They could invest a bit in better curtains as they don’t give you any darkening level if you would like to sleep bit longer. The suite we’re in was on the first floor so the second night we had an “elephant “ above us, stumping back and forth till 1 am. Lack of phone in the room made it impossible to communicate with the receptionist, so we just waited it out, but if you’re older couple who likes to sleep in curfew hours that might be not your best choice. The room service is very early between 8-9 am so make sure you’ll put do not disturb sign out😊

We had a wonderful stay as it was our anniversary and was looking for somewhere in Sturgeon bay. What surprised me the most was that the Leathem Smith Lodge had availability from booking my stay one week before. Thank goodness since everything is always booked up during the months of July and August. The lodge also provided a breakfast for us in the morning which we loved alot. The tiki bar outside on grounds was great and also had music on certain nights that added to our enjoyment. The second night we took in a meal while sitting outside by the water and boat dock. The evening was absolutely beautiful as our waitress served us by the setting sun as we watched the boats go sailing by. Our room was wonderful and the bed was comfortable. They stopped by to check to see if we needed more clean towels or anything in general. Everyone made sure our stay was great!!

The Lodge is beautiful on the inside. However the parking lot could have been cleaner since we stayed there in January. It was snow covered and icy. We had booked a room with a hot tub, fireplace and kitchenette. The hot tub and fire place were very nice. The room temperature was only at about 55 when we arrived. There was no stove of full refrigerator and the dining table only had one chair. There were two of us that stayed in the room. There were no black out curtains so the room was not very dark at night for sleeping. There was no way to turn off the light outside on the patio. The shower had mold on the rubber of the shower door. The hall way where our room was located was very cold.

I dont expect alot to be honest but little things mean alot. I would expect these issues at a quality/budget inn at a $90 price point but to speak nearly $200 i expect basic cleanliness.

When we checked in the room wasn't cleaned. Urine stains on toilet bowl, hair in tub and the bathroom/carpet floors were not vacuumed. It wasnt just a piece of lint in the corner but fkecks of paper a lint throughout the room made it obvious a vacuum hadn't touched the floor between visits.

In the morning at 840 I went fown with my kids for breakfast and was confused as all the tables had chairs on it and nothing was out. I went to the front desk and no one was there 2 different guests waiting. One was trying to checkout and finally lost patience and tossed their cards on the desk to leave.

I waited ten minutes and as I was leaving I could see they were just getting stuff out for breakfast. I can understand it not being ready AT the specified start time but just starting to bring things out 40 minutes after is ridiculous. The free breakfast is a big selling point for family's and now I get to drop another $50 at a diner for a meal that was supposed to be included.

This place seems like it was really nice back in the day but needs renovations and attention to detail.

It is not in my nature to disparage hotels or restaurants, especially during a pandemic. Most hospitality establishments work hard to serve their customers and provide a pleasant eating or lodging experience. But where health and safety is concerned, especially during a pandemic, there are other factors to consider.

Which is why I’ve ruminated before writing this review.

Last Fall, returning from a weekend in Door County, we booked rooms at The Lodge at Leathem Smith, in Sturgeon Bay, because of the interesting history of the property and the resort’s website confirmation it adheres to “enhanced health & safety standards” and that the “Property is cleaned with disinfectant.”
We arrived after 6:00pm and found no one at the front desk. Just a note to call a room in the hotel which, as it turned out, housed a manager or assistant. He checked us in and pointed the way to our rooms. Not a good beginning.

Considering health and safety, we were shocked to find our rooms to be in appalling conditions. But given the hour and the lack of housing options, had no choice but to bite our lip and stay the night.

The bathrooms were filthy. Mold on the tiles. Mold or dirt in the bottom of the tub. In our room one of the doors in the sink cabinet is falling off the hinges. Ohhh, and the bathroom door is warped and won't close.

The waste basket in the bathroom had not been emptied from the previous guest. And most appalling, the dirt and grime on the bathroom tile and the bottom of the tub was, to put it mildly, disgusting. Look at the picture of the tub that accompanies this review.

I hope that the owner can recover from what the pandemic has wrought. But for us, on our next trip to Door County, we will look elsewhere —and more suspiciously— before booking lodging somewhere else.

We stayed at the Lodge at Leathem Smith in Sturgeon Bay a few years back in the “Fishing Village”. It was such a disastrous stay! At checkout, they gave us a free night voucher for a stay in the” Main Lodge” to try to appease us. With apprehension, we book a weekend stay hoping they would change our review of this place. NOPE.

First, the stay in the “Fishing Village”: The room had a fist punch hole in the bathroom door, the carpet was soaking wet in various spots, the bed was not secure and if you sat at the foot of it, it popped up and tossed you to said wet floor, the vertical blinds for the patio doors were cracked and missing (they brought us a sheet to cover the window which faced the main road) and the air conditioning unit was so packed with dust and debris we couldn’t run it for fear of allergies kicking up (and it was July). The whole place was dated, paneling, and ugly. Horrid.

So, this year’s stay, our room was much price than another couple who also stayed that weekend also. They paid less for two nights than we did for one! I think they raised the price to cover the free night's stay. Yes, the room was cleaner, and all the vertical blinds were present and working, but the room smelt of mildew and the picture was behind the bed (by that I mean on the floor; it fell off the wall and was never hung back up because the hook was damaged), the outdoor furniture was dirty and cheap, and we were missing pull knobs on the dresser. The bathroom was very dated, and the water did not run free down the drain as we showered; I hate pooling water! Also, the advertised pool was empty (in mid-June); obviously not usable and the workout room was a janitor's closet with 3 pieces of equipment.

Seriously, this is how you try to make-up for our disastrous stay? The only redeeming quality was the Tiki bar and the associated bartenders, including Willy. Fun time out there! Oh, and the omelet bar for breakfast was not bad. But, please look elsewhere! Do not stay here.

I cannot recommend this hotel unless you are an avid golfer who does not pay particularly close attention to other features. In my case, I needed a room for one night and signed up for a >$300 suite overlooking the course (the last room available). The room was just okay. The furniture seemed worn, the towels and linens could use refreshing, and I am not someone who needs a jacuzzi next to the bed. But what sticks out in my memory, and will keep me from ever staying there again, was the maskless staff and clientele. There was a "wear a mask" sign in the lobby but nowhere else. One reception desk person wore a mask. Another wore a saggy mask that fit below her nose. Most other staff members did not wear a mask, including HOUSEKEEPING staff I saw entering rooms without a mask (I asked "are you housekeeping?) Very few of the clientele wore masks either. This place is *not for me* and I can't recommend it for anyone else.

We were pleasantly surprised at the wonderful Easter Dinner prepared "to go" on Easter. The moist turkey was off the bone as was the tender ham. The gren beans, dressing, and smashed baby potatoes were very tasty. They supplied dessert, which was cherry cobbler - very lucious! The staff who delivered it to our car were very friendly, yet cautious of distancing. Lovely dinner and close to home so food didn't get cold.

We rented two rooms at $175 (includes tax) each.
One room was very musty smelling.
When I climbed into our king bed, there was sand at the feet and 4 pubic hairs.
Called front desk, and received an answering machine. The next morning I was compensated $25.

There was a futon/sofa sleeper in our room, which I would call a piece of board. It would not go flat, and squeaked at every move. Had to ask for bedding for it.

The reason we stayed here is that we were charter fishing at the marina directly across the road from the hotel. There was suppose to be coffee and muffins in the lobby before we left at 5 am - nothing. Upon our return, there was a baggie with tiny store bought muffins hanging on our door knob and several other doors. Threw them in the garbage.

The lobby is attractive. Restaurant food was iffy. One waitress that was filling in and never checked back. There was a Maltese dog running in and out of the restaurant that belonged to the receptionist. The outside has an inviting atmosphere.

I would never step foot in the rooms unless there was a total remodel and new cleaning crew.

Their website states right on the home page "The Lodge at Leathem Smith is the epitome of a lavish getaway"....maybe back in the 70's. We paid $150 a night for a double queen room, which had furniture from the 70's. The bathroom was disgusting...there was hair all the floor behind the door, the shower curtain was moldy and the tub drain didn't do it's job. All of the bedding was very old, sheets had rips in them. The staff were all very nice, but we would never stay here again.
