This hotel had a small cozy lobby and interesting decor. The outdoor area included gas grill on the patio, fire pit, chairs and tables and a children's play area. The king room included a sofa, refrigerator and microwave. The towels were generously fluffy. Breakfast was supplied in a COVID-safe manner with items that were individually wrapped. It would have been nice to have a sanitizer to wipe off tables.

Thanks for the review. We hope to see you again. We will work on getting to clean tables quicker. We do not want to leave sanitizing spray where children can reach it. We have not been able to find wipes to use. But the processes are evolving and we are working on more staff. Thank you for coming.

Wow, what a GREAT place! Looking for a pet friendly place in Door County and boy did we hit the jackpot! Stayed two nights. The facility and grounds at the Lodge were immaculate inside and out. Hosts just wonderful. A side entrance made it easy to take our 2 dogs in/out so as not to inconvenience other guests . A welcome basket for our pooches included sheets to place on beds, treats, dog waste baggies, and even bowls... totally impressed. Room was perfect, comfortable beds and super clean, plus a lovely picture window. Breakfast was self serve (with COVID restrictions in place) and able to sit outside. Was easy to spend time on the premises, relaxing on the back/patio area as well as walking the nature trail out back. We absolutely loved this place and will definitely be back.

This lodge on the edge of Sister Bay Hwy 42, WI turned out to be a great choice. A mix of rustic, contemporary and punk (???), it was clean, the beds were comfortable, the linens and towels sparkling and soft, the pillows good, the first floor windows opened, the pool and hot tub were pleasant, the people were all really pleasant, the cable channels and TV set up was wonderful, the lobby comfortable, the shower great, and the room amenities were good. I would give them a mark down for the meager breakfast and the fact that they had no tea except peppermint available (even after I asked for anything non-herbal) except that in the off season it was $75 plus tax. For that price, I can do without a good breakfast.
W e stayed 2 nights and were glad we had found it.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. We specifically chose this hotel because of the whirlpool. The whirlpool was still not available after reading reviews dating back as far as February 2021 on Trip Advisor. The bathroom had mold on the ceiling and all together it definitely needed a complete rehab. I guess the reason why we are writing this review is that when you spend nearly $200.00 a night in the vacation land of Door County I expect a very clean and updated room with all amenities in full operation. This is a hotels bread and butter during the peak seasons. Keep your rooms updated and clean, fix any issues that require attention immediately and people will be back in droves again and again.

I booked and less than 24 hours later decided to cancel because of change of plans and they refused to be courteous and issue me a full refund. I’ll never stay here and will warn people of how greedy this place is. $117 they kept for no reason.

Sorry. You made a reservation through an online site with a nonrefundable deposit. We have made hundreds of exceptions even though they were nonrefundable but a change of plans to stay elsewhere was not listed for the desk worker who received the email cancellation.

The lodge was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. Since we stayed for a week, it was nice to have onsite laundry. The continental breakfast was generous and having coffee available all day was appreciated. We met interesting, happy people at the nightly fire pit. Dog owners told us that they appreciate the free pet washing station which included towels and shampoo. We have booked our second stay for a week this fall.

We have been staying at Open Hearth Lodge since 1991. The current innkeepers continue to make enhancements to the property, including expansion, yet they maintain the small inn atmosphere. We, as guests, always feel welcome and appreciate the feeling that we are returning as friends. The location of OHL in Door County provides short travel times to all the area offers. We highly recommend!

We were looking for a dog-friendly place to stay in Door County, and the Open Hearth Lodge more than fit the bill. Although the rooms were a bit dated, they were very comfortable. Having a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker was a plus.

The outdoor areas were large and provided many different seating areas for guests. The gas fire pit was a nice touch.

All of the staff that we encountered were pleasant and friendly. Housekeeping was not available because of the pandemic, but they had a nice system for swapping out towels each day.

We were staying on washington Island for the week and decided to stay one day in door county. We could not have been happier with our stay. Our room was very clean and very nice size. The staff could not have been nicer. The most surprising thing was the extras you buy like a coke was very cheap. My wife bought a bottle of wine and it only cost 15 dollars. I would highly recommend this place. It is pet friendly and you can even order a pizza late. Stay here.

The Open Hearth Lodge is cozy with many amenities. The breakfast area is inviting with gorgeous views of the picturesque surroundings. The breakfast menu is modest at best. The lounge area is smaller than it appears in the web site photos, but, cozy. Our king room was nice and clean, comfortable mattress and bedding. Plentiful soft towels. We did have a couple of issues, that were taken care of promptly. Our room was ready for my husband and I along with our fur baby. A dog bed, food and water dish along with a basket filled with towels, a blanket and bag with a ball, poo bags and dog treats were waiting for our arrival. There was also a dog bathing area down the hall, we did not use, these are memorable features when traveling with your best friend.
Upon arriving back to our room on day two, we were disappointed that housekeeping had not been there. When we brought the soiled towels to the front desk, we were told we should of filled the laundry bag in our room with the soiled towels and set it out side the room. How were we to know, Tell your guests about the laundry bag process upon arrival, tell your guests there is no house keeping. I’m tired of hearing that “since Covid there is limited housekeeping”. I know the hospitality industry has suffered a loss, we all have in one way or another. A vacation away from home for a couple of days or a couple of weeks, is an experience we’ve worked hard for, I really enjoy the treat of not having to make my bed and have fresh towels waiting for me.
All in all, we would stay here again when visiting Door County.

Answer from OHLodge
Sister Bay, Wisconsin
Hi Bruce! We have pet friendly rooms with one king bed or two queen beds for those dates. We have designated pet friendly rooms; dogs are not allowed in all rooms. Also, there is a $15 per night fee per pet. Please call us at 920-854-4890 or our website (I apologize but Tripadvisor won't let me type our website on here) to see the rates or book. Hope this helps!
