Detailed Reviews
My wife and I enjoyed a very comfortable stay at this bed and breakfast located on the near east side of downtown Milwaukee. It’s very convenient for the Milwaukee Art Museum with many historic churches and homes nearby. The breakfast was freshly made eggs with other continental items as well.

We noticed this place while walking to our parked car. Street parking in this area is tough and we were in the area for another reason but the pub looked so cozy and inviting from the outside we went in and had a drink. The pub atmosphere is outstanding. Real fireplace, great service and fair prices. So we decided to meet friends there before the Bucks game recently and stay overnight upstairs. I was really impressed when, a few days beforehand I got a phone call alerting us to the fact that there would be a band in the pub the night of our stay and we may hear some noise. So we brought a fan and they offered us ear plugs but in the end we never heard anything. But just the fact that they called was impressive.
They have a small parking lot behind the hotel. Parking is free but sometimes you have to double park and leave your keys at the front desk. This is really not a problem unless you are parked in and need to go somewhere in the middle of the night.
We had supper in the cozy pub and it was great food and service. Fiserv Forum is about a mile west. In nice weather, I would probably walk it. Area seemed safe.
Our room was huge and clean, although a bit dated. The "free" breakfast was the best I've ever had at a motel. Again, great service.
Every employee we encountered was friendly. We'd stop in here again for sure!

We stayed one night while visiting family. Really only used the hotel foe sleep but it was a great stay. The bed was comfortable and the room was a nice size for the 2 of us. I loved the whirlpool tub and had nice bath before checking out in the morning. Small cold breakfast is available at no charge and was easy to grab and take back to our room as we got ready.

Great european style hotel and pub. Very reasonable weekday rates if you're there on business; off-street parking; close to Grohmannn Museum at MSOE. Superb weekend brunch (missed it this trip, but great Irish breakfast fare and Bloody Marys you'll write home about.) Open for dinner seven days-superb selection of brews on tap (and a few you might have not yet heard of) and a very decent collection of Irish Whiskeys (and other spirits). They must be doing something right-regulars appear like clockwork nearly every day. Been there before; when travel takes me to Milwaukee I'll visit again.

The County Clare is a hidden gem! Excellent location within a block of The Hop trolley to anywhere in downtown. Free parking (which is unbelievable in the downtown area) and a free breakfast of made to order omelets and continental fare in the morning. All for a very reasonable price. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. After many years of paying exorbitant prices for rooms at major chains, I am overjoyed to find a place like this. We will be back for sure!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this inn. The staff was friendly and personable and offered many suggestions for sightseeing, restaurants and breweries. The inn is just a block or so from the city Hop bus (a free bus that takes you to further downtown). Our room was nice and spacious. We were close enough to walk to the Milwaukee Art Museum which was on Lake Michigan. Just a beautiful area.
The Irish Pub was an added plus - our first round of drinks was courtesy of the Inn. We enjoyed the atmosphere and Irish vibe. We would definitely come back again! I highly recommend County Clare Irish Inn & Pub for a long weekend getaway.

This was a really nice hotel for a get away. The bed was comfortable and the room was large. There is no refrigerator in the room and you have to get ice from the bar or front desk. All staff were super friendly. Every room has a whirlpool tub but they are loud so when somebody in another room is using it you can hear it. There is free parking which is a bonus. The restaurant was also very good. Would stay agian.

We booked the hotel hoping to enjoy some downtown activities after a restful sleep after a VERY long drive. Unfortunately the drive was longer then anticipated so we called the Inn at around 6:45PM last night and was greeted by voicemail. We gave a detailed voicemail with our reservation name, email address and phone number and asked that we kindly get a call back. After not getting a call back and getting concerned, we called again at 9PM. We left another detailed email and pleaded to get a call back to let us know our options. At 10PM we called back once again hoping to get someone but unfortunately we once again didn't hear from anyone. We arrived at the Inn at 1:30AM with hopes that something had been done or that perhaps there would be a note for us or something but there was not.
With our alarm set to wake up up at 7AM for our final 10hour drive back to Ontario, and it being 1:30AM in morning, we were forced to pay for a room elsewhere.
The worst part of this experience is the fact that we didn't even get a call back today. Even if they were unable to call us back last night, you would have expected that they at least call us and say something like "I know you paid $200 for your room and it is unfortunate that you forfeited your money but I wanted to at least let you know that we got your messages." But no, they didn't have the courtesy to follow up even at that level.
Then you get the automated message from Expedia from them that states that they hope our stay with them was amazing and to let them know how it was.... To add insult to injury.

Hi Kevin, We absolutely apologize for not answering your calls, as this is not typical. The last thing that we want is for anyone to have an issue after a long day of travel. As we're a small inn with a small staff, we try to be as proactive in our communication as possible. We list our policies on our Expedia site, and in our pre-stay emails that we encourage guests to review beforehand, including our late check-in policy and Front Desk closure hours to ensure the best experience. We want our guests to be on the same page with us. Unfortunately, that didn't happen here, and we're sorry for the negative experience.

First room had a shade over the only window that would not retract. The next room was good but they had to move us the last night to another room. I woke up and checked out. That mourning I felt bumps on my neck and shoulders that turned out to be bed bug bites. I called the Inn to tell them and all they could say or do was to apologies. I will never stay there again.
The Pub was excellent but they are not offering breakfast in the Pub nor lunch weekdays.

Hi Diana, We take the mention of bed bugs very seriously. What you experienced, although unfortunate was determined not to be bed bugs, or any bugs in the room. When you initially mentioned this to our Front Desk, we apologized at the time with the understanding that we would investigate this issue. We could not say conclusively what had happened until we contacted our pest control company, which we did immediately. They investigated your room, as well as 10 surrounding rooms. If there was an issue, we wanted to nip it in the bud. Our pest control company found NO traces of ANY pest activity (including bed bugs) in any of our rooms. This also backed up the preliminary findings of 3 of our senior staff members, trained to spot and identify pests. We have additional preventative measures in place, including routine inspections by this same pest company. Any report of any pest activity leads to a room being blocked off until it is cleared to unblock. As the shade was broken, we gave you a complimentary King Suite upgrade for 2 nights. Unfortunately, the room wasn't available for the third night, so you agreed to move. You also had the lowest available rate of our Weekday Special for all 3 nights with a coupon for 2 free drinks. As we discussed, we could not honor your wishes of a full discount. Our pub does not currently offer public breakfast or lunch during the week, but we do list our pub and restaurant hours in our pre-stay email to guests. We also offer free breakfast to all guests. We're sorry that you were left with a frustrating impression, but regardless, we appreciate you staying with us. Sincerely, County Clare Inn and Pub

It’s December 2020 and I just have to say my occasional escapes from Chicago to the county Clare in Milwaukee over the last 6 months were the best part of this really tough year. I’ve stayed a dozen times. I cannot decide what I enjoy the most— the hospitality and kindness of the staff, the immaculate, sanitized rooms or the incredible food in the restaurant. Can’t recommend this place enough. The big bathtubs are pure luxury. Beds are comfortable. The staff works so hard to satisfy your every need or wish and treat me like a queen. Currently enjoying a corned beef, braised veggie and mashed potato platter plus a cup of their signature root soup. Amazing beer list. I hate going home! Happy New Year County Clare, I hope it brings you much prosperity!

Hi Julia,
Thank you for your question. The County Clare is approximately 1.4 miles north of the Summerfest grounds. We do not have a shuttle during Summerfest, however, the walk is brief, Lyft and Uber are great to use, and Milwaukee County Transit is also a option! Have a great day
Hello and a Happy New Year to you and yours. Thank you for your email and your interest in our inn and pub.
The County Clare just celebrated our twenty year anniversary on the 29th of October. We are a family friendly establishment that boasts a wide variety of music, that is mostly child friendly!
Every Friday we offer a lovely traditional Irish session with a number of musicians. Frogwater, a favorite, is just around the corner on the 28th. Please visit our website to see a full list of what's in store!
Our inn has three levels with a total of 29 rooms. You can certainly mention that you wish to stay in a 'quiet' room. As a small inn it is important that we emphasize noise levels while maintaining our quaint, Irish atmosphere!
Storytelling is abundant on any given day here at the Clare, but yes, often times we have professors and students visit us from the Celtic department of our local university to do some special storytelling!
Please feel free to phone us at 414.272.5273 if you have any further questions! We hope you'll visit soon. Slainte.
Sorry I did not see this question earlier. Two friends of mine have stayed in a snug room, and they are really not snug at all! They are smaller than the larger rooms and suites, but have all the amenities of the large rooms except extra sitting and work space.
We do have Suites that boast one King size bed and a full size pull out bed in the sofa. Those are the largest rooms we have to offer. Hope that helps in your decision making! Please contact us if you need further assistance!
