Planned a last-minute trip to Door County, but not many hotels were available. Parkside was reasonable and the reviews were so-so, so we booked it for 3 nights. When you first enter the room, the smell is really, really bad, very moldy and musty smelling with a small container of damp-rid sitting on the floor by the TV. We could not get connected to the internet at all, the guy in the office said he has never heard of anyone having a problem getting connected but the cleaning ladies told us you need to stand in the middle of the parking lot to get connected. Lastly, a fuse blew when I was in the shower because my husband had the coffee pot and the microwave going at the same time. When he went to the office to have them reset the stage. The guy gave him a hard time for having both units plugged in at the same time. Really, nothing in the manual about that! Just a horrible stay all the way around.

The gentleman at the desk was nice enough. But, upon entering the room, the smell and old stained decor were overwhelming. The carpet and the fabric chairs were really stained. Surprisingly, the beds were clean and fairly comfortable. But, the musty smell in the room was so bad that I had to open the window a crack, even though it was cold and rainy, and I ran the wall air conditioning unit for a while just to feel like I could breathe. Boy, how I wish I would have read the reviews on this sight before booking this place. The one upside that I feel I have to mention was that upon leaving, I had forgotten my pillow in the room that had my jammies and nice robe in it. A staff member actually called my cell and left a voice mail telling me they had it and that they would hold it until I came back for it. Fortunately, we were only about 20 mins away so I went back to claim it. If only this place could somehow fix the terrible dampness and smell and update the place, it might be worth another try.

I hate to write a bad review because the owners appear to be trying hard, but I do not recommend this hotel to anyone with allergies. We booked two nights in this hotel, and had to abandon the 2nd night uncompensated because I did not want to end up in the hospital for my anniversary. I am allergic to mold, and the allergy triggered my asthma. My husband had a milder allergic reaction as he does not have asthma. I woke up in the middle of the night unable to breathe. I took a general allergy pill, used a nasal steroid, and my inhaler but it was unable to sleep as I had serious trouble breathing. We stayed in a ground floor unit. It was decorated cute, appeared clean, and up to date. The property appeared well cared for, and the hosts were friendly, but I would never be able to stay here again due to how sick I became from one night's stay. Sometimes I can shake off an allergic reaction by getting in the fresh air, but this time my lungs were so irritated fresh air combined with my inhaler did not help. We booked through a third party, and the host did not offer a refund or even a different room. She blamed damp weather, but I think she knows the hotel has problems. However I don't think a different room would have helped. Other reviews mention musty smells and poor air quality. I am not sure how this hotel is up to code. There seems to be no source of fresh air to enter the room as they have baseboard heat rather than forced air. Then the hotel is closed up November through April. I think perhaps mold grows and in carpets and furniture when a building is shut up with no air circulation for months every year.

My mother in law has arthritis and the faucets in tub and sink were impossible for her to pull and push. My son took the room for the next two nights and said the air conditioning was loud and insufficient. Convenient to town and beach, but with some limitations. Visit Ellison Bay. Great location for touring northern Door County. WI.

I loved everything about this motel-location, room size and amenities, comfy bed, pleasant friendly staff, beautiful flowers, price……BUT the smell. Room 11 was perfect in every way, if you don’t mind musty, moldy smell. When I asked at the desk right after checking in, I was told no one else had ever complained. We left for sightseeing right after checking in, and when we returned, I found a dehumidifier running, a large Damp Rid unit, and a new Airwick plug in. Did not help. The city beach/park across the road is just wonderful and dinner at Mink River Basin was so good. I might stay again and try a different room. Other reviews mention the smell so I’m sure they’ve tried to fix it. Great little inn with very nice folks running it.

Location was convenient, Ellison Bay is a nice little town. The setting of the motel is nice but.....our room was so moldy and musty that both my sister and I got terrible headaches immediately. We turned on the A/C and that just made it worse, we actually pulled the filter out of the air conditioner and tried to clean it but it was so filthy it was a losing battle. Everything from the air to the sheets reeked from the mustiness and mold. We both woke up the first morning hacking and coughing from what we had been breathing all night. The room was fairly clean but it could have been better since I found several long dark hairs right on the counter when we first arrived. My recommendation for the owners would be to deep clean the rooms, remove all soft surfaces and disinfect them as well as thoroughly clean the air conditioner before renting the rooms out again. We visit Door County often and will never stay at this place again.

I’ve always been hesitant of mom & pop motels because there’s no formal expectations of cleanliness and upkeep. Kudos to the Parkside Inn for hitting my mark! Very nice and helpful front desk staff and all the key things we look for - clean room, strong air conditioning and water pressure along with a microwave and fridge (bonus mini freezer!). In addition, our car was parked 10 steps away from our door! The TV was very small, but not a huge issue in a place like Door County.

I give it a 3, rooms were dark and dingy. I asked for a second floor room and did not get it. Got a very lukewarm welcome upon arrival. We could walk to the beach which was nice. Nearby restaurants were a not great. We went into Sister Bay for dinner and shopping.

Cute small, quiet, and affordable place with friendly staff! Very clean even though furniture was older. We loved being able to sit outside at night on the many chairs available outside our room while our kids were asleep. Very good location across from the park and beach and near parks/restaurants. Pretty landscaping and feel. Will definitely be back again!! Maybe will grill next time! Awesome!
