Planned a weekend in boscobel to see the great outdoors. The sands was a cheap option for where we were going to lay our heads at night and shower. Our first room was a one bed and very small. The shower was meant for a tiny person and didn’t accommodate average size people. The shower also had mold all along the base of the shower. It was 93 degrees that day and the ac wouldn’t even work because the whole outlet was shot. We asked for a different room and got upgraded to a 2 bed queen room. At first looks it was OK . The carpet had a lot of stains and a weird old smell down the hall way and in the room. The bathroom was nicer but at night we found so many nats in the room busing around the lights. By the morning there was dead little nats EVERYWHERE. In the bathtub, sink, walls, light fixtures, and even on the sheets of the bed we were not using. I was very disappointed by the stay here. I liked the cheap price but it was dirty and run down. Won’t be returning…
Was pleasantly surprised when staying at the Sands. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Room was very clean and large. Breakfast was cold cereal, hot oatmeal, yogurt, fresh fruit, toast and jelly, bagels and cream cheese, hard boiled eggs, packaged pastries, milk juice, coffee, water. All for $65. Stayed a few days later, they saved my room and charged me when I arrived
Mold in bathroom. The grout joint between the shower surround and the tub had mold growing and the shower curtain had mold and hair on it. They wouldn't reimburse me for the room. If that is what the cleanliness is, imagine what is hidden
One of the worse experiences of my life. I was traveling on business and needed a place to stay. When I checked in I was asked if I had any guests with me (additional charge for more than one person). I said no, and the owner than looked out at my vehicle to make sure nobody else was in it. The rooms look like inside of a mobile home and the paneling provided no sound barrier to anyone on the property. Breakfast was advertized and when I asked about it, the owner looked annoyed and told me that I could just go across the street to the Kwik Trip. The room lost power and heat in the middle of the night. I went to wake up the owner and at first he didn't believe me. Then he didn't understand why I was concerned about losing power and heat in February. I couldn't believe it and when I tried to work with him he wasn't interested. I left right then. I would have rather slept in my vehicle.…
No fridge, no microwave, no hot food for breakfast. Damp musty smelling room. Older place, This is a beautiful area, lots to see, so if you don't mind roughing it... It's like camping in a motel I think I paid too much!
One of two places in Boscobel, the Sands doesn't look very impressive on first view. I asked to see a room and it was clean, the bed comfortable and the A/C and TV worked. Shower was small but that was how they were built a few years ago. The staff was very nice although not overly talkative, just their culture. The mom was tending her garden and it was nice, wish she cooked something for the breakfast, that was basic but good to have. I would return when in Boscobel.
Owner didn't know what to give for discount. Room was clean but very small shower. Bed comfortable but need different new pillows. Ice bucket but no refrigerator. Glad to have a room as busy weekend and everything else booked so as a last resort, it works.
We made reservations under a hotel in Lancaster as they had vacancy. The Sands did not. We spent the day in the area, and stopped at the Sands to see if any vacancies opened up. They had, so we signed up for a room. 95 dollars. We immediately called the other hotel to cancel our reservation. Well, their advertising said free cancellations but they' didn't honor their advertising. So we immediately(10 minutes after going to our room) we told the Sands we couldn't stay their that night. They said that we still owed them 95 dollars. My heart sunk. They then said they could give us back 40 dollars after spending 5 minutes in the room!!! Wow, I guess I have to be thankful that I got anything back, but for 5 minutes or less in their room and no one had come in that they had to turn away in that span of time!!! It will be difficult to ever go there again!! I do not recommend that anyone stay their either!!!…
Last minute trip along the Wisconsin river on the Harley. Decided to stay overnight, found this place. We always go cheap because we'd rather spend our money on food and fun. When we drove up, saw big sign stating newly remodeled. Well, that's quite comical because the bathroom dates back from the 50s, shower head shorter than me (I'm under 5'6"), wall air conditioner doesn't work well (you're either too cold or not cool enough), no way the long hallway has seen remodeling in quite some time, and the lighting is very poor. BUT the people running it are VERY nice, they loaned me their hair dryer (forgot mine), brought me a small refrigerator (I have bad headaches every day and my neck is shot, I travel with ice packs and keep them in the freezer), and the morning breakfast is decent (2 types cereal, glaze donuts, bagels/cream cheese, apples, bananas, coffee, orange juice, and milk). Quite frankly I've stayed at nicer places for less than they charge so if they reduced their price at least $10, I would give them maybe one more star. Would I return? Probably not, sad to say...…
The bed and room were clean. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were like rocks. no glasses in the rooms, nor coffee. Which I wouldn't mind but they didn't even have any at the front desk. The hallway was musty/moldy smelling. All of the fixtures and furnishings were a couple decades old. I know this because we have stayed there before. The staff barely speak English and there is no set pricing policy for discounts. They were friendly but hard to communicate with.
