Chris and Larry Carlson make sure that you have a wonderful stay. Not only did they provide breakfast for us and comfy accommodations, but for an additional fee they provided lunch and dinner, too, all with lots of in season fruit! We didn't have to provide any meals for ourselves. Chris (and Larry) very willingly worked around our need to stay away from gluten. We were in the suite which is very private being situated over the garage and separated from the rest of the house by a screened in second story breezeway. That breezeway, populated with lounge chairs, lamps and table, made for an awesome place to relax and read as well. In the suite, the bed was very comfortable and we slept very well--it was neither too firm nor too soft. For someone with back trouble such as myself, it was nice to find a bed that I could really sleep in and not wake up with a backache in the morning. The house and guest quarters are nicely decorated and tend towards a Victorian theme; we had the run of the place, being made to feel like family. The property borders Riverside State Park--a wooded portion that is rarely occupied. Another edge of the property borders the Spokane River just below Nine Mile Falls dam. We were able to kayak (having rented kayaks from just up the road at the Nine Mile Falls Recreation Area), launching from and/or returning to the beach that fronts the property several times. River House is nicely situated as far as access to the Nine Mile Falls Reservoir, Spokane House historical site, Little Spokane River, and Lake Spokane--an easy paddle downriver from their property. One sees plenty of wildlife...deer, river otters, ducks, herons, various song birds, humming birds, etc, especially when sitting on the little patio down by the river (another great place to read) or on the main patio. A spur of the Centennial Trail leads directly from their property back towards Nine Mile Falls dam and continues upriver, into Spokane and all the way into Idaho. We took advantage of our end of the trail several times. If you want to get away from it all without getting too far away from it all, this is the perfect place.…
