Crabtree Falls Campground has 4 Camping Cabins, roughing it with a bed. We have 3 Full-hookup sites with a max of 30 feet and 30 amps. Then we have 30 tent sites. Some are park on some are walk to sites along the rivers edge. These sites always go first. Try to call at least 2-3 weeks in advance for reservations if you want the primo sites. We are on the side of a mountain so the terrain is full of trip rocks. Be Careful and watch where you walk, stay on trail! Owners run the campground and we do our best to make you feel at home and welcome here. Dave and Sue

Royal Ranger folk lore, from the early 1990’s, depicts that a naked person dove head first into Crabtree falls, and was struck by the Gods into stone. This rock, a bare bottom with no legs is hidden in the stream, affectionately known as....Booty Rock

Drove about 3 hours from DC for some fresh air and nature as covid continues to prevent any major travel. Grateful to discover Crabtree Falls Campground after searching for tent sites that were near a river or lake. Our family of four stayed Fri-Sun on tent sites 31 and 32, which sit on a very steep bank overlooking the river. The sites worked out perfectly, as they seemed quieter and more private than the other sites, since they’re at the far end of the campground. You aren’t able to park your car right at the site, but it wasn’t a big deal trekking back and forth. We hilariously forgot to bring two essential items for camping: a lighter and fire starters, but thankfully, the camp store had them for sale at reasonable prices, along with ice and wood (unfortunately a bit too wet/fresh to burn properly; we had to borrow a hatchet). The bathrooms are clean and showers are hot. Activities outside the campground included hiking to beautiful Crabtree Falls (bring exactly $3 to park; it’s just 500 ft. to walk to the lower falls overlook but 2 miles uphill to hike to the top) and enjoying a picnic lunch and hard ciders at Bold Rock Cidery (Devil’s Backbone Brewery was fully booked). There was also a small grocery store and ABC store about 30 minutes away where we stocked up on more supplies. The owner AJ was very friendly and check in and out was a breeze. Great that we were able to pay for the sites, wood, ice, and camp store items all at once at check out. Will definitely plan to book again next summer and fall! Tips: Bring a grill top for the fire pit, water shoes to enjoy the river, and good sleeping pads (the ground is a little rocky).

Love to have the sound of water lull you to sleep? Pick a waterfront spot and enjoy the view from your tent or fire pit. Got to meet new owners AJ and Sue - both lovely and passionate about their campground. T4 is a good site - only two other campsites have to walk past and easy to step right onto the rocks into the water. It’s at a loud spot on the water so if you like it a bit quieter choose a higher number. You do have to leave your car at the top of the trail but wheelbarrows are available if you don’t want to carry it down. Two showers and three toilets doesn’t seem like much for the women for so many tenting sites but it did the trick. Just avoid the crowd of kids after dinner. Cabins are also available and sites that you can drive up to as well. Call for reservations and ask for recommendations for your preferences. Definitely hike Crabtree falls but there are also less crowded trails on the parkway. Definitely find St. Mary’s Wilderness - 5 water crossings, big swimming pools and waterfalls with cliff jumpers!

This campground is a small privately owned campground along the river in the George Jefferson National Forest. Normally, I am reluctant to camp in a privately owned campground because the natural scenery is not always untouched. However, my wife & I really enjoyed this campground! We stayed in T3 which is a tent site along the river. We were no more than 10 yards from the moving water. If you stay along the river you need to walk in but if you are able, it is quite easy. The river is clean. The campground is pet friendly. The staff is very friendly. Firewood is economically priced for a campground. Wood could be a little more dry but it will do the trick. If you are hiking or in the area and enjoy camping I would highly recommend this campground.

My second time visiting, my husband's first. The last time I was here was under the original ownership, Dave & Sue. It is now recently owned by AJ. He was fantastic. Very personable. Fun to talk to & very hospitable. My husband joked with him about sitting in the store to watch the Texas game Sat night and he said he could. We sat there for almost 3 hours watching the game (until almost 1130). The conversation was great. We visited three breweries during the day after our hike to the falls. The bathrooms are very clean and the campsites are very clean. It's so dark and quiet at night and you can tell AJ takes great pride in taking over a place that was so highly thought of before. We've already booked for next year and will bring our daughter. AJ told us he is bringing the game room back and will have a place to hang out if you happen to get stuck with bad weather during your stay. As long as AJ is there we will make this our annual family weekend getaway.

We randomly found this campground after an exhaustive search of campgrounds in/around the area. We live in NC, and like to get away once in a while to spend some time in the mountains. Having been to several in NC, I must say that this place is really nice. The camping spots are kinda close to one another, but nothing that would be a deterrent for us staying here again. It seems as if there are a lot of options, whether you have an RV or just a tent, and some of the riverside camp spots (which fill up fast) are really spacious and nice. Bathrooms are clean, and I even saw laundry facilities. There is an office/small general store, should you need any last-minute items. Firewood is offered for sale, and on weekends they provide free coffee in the store. The owner was really helpful and attentive. Will definitely stay here again.

My family and I just got back from a really nice camping trip here. We stayed on T5 and it was a short trek to the site, but right on the water. All of the sites at this campground are pretty close to each other, so you will see your neighbors if the campground is full. We lucked out and pretty much had the place to ourselves the first night which was amazing (it was a Thursday) but it got pretty packed on Friday. If you went with a few families and could get sites next to each other it would be perfect. The bathrooms were pretty great for a campground with nice hot showers available. Very clean! Had a blast!!!

We stayed here two nights during the week and were very pleased! The campground is well kept and clean, and the host very friendly. (He gave us great advice and drew us a map for nearby hiking.) You can buy wood for fires onsite even after the office is closed, which is a great perk! There is a basic dump station for RVs, although if your RV is very long or low to the ground, you might have trouble getting in the entry. (We made it in our low-clearance class B, but had to go slowly and be careful not to bottom out.) We stayed at a hike-in tenting site (T5) directly on the water and it was wonderful. The site is literally only feet from the water and an easy hike from the parking area (1-2 minute walk). I believe you have to book the site out quite a long time, but it's beautiful enough to be worth it! The road to come in is not the easiest for an RV (even a class B), but if you take it slow, it's totally do-able.

My husband and I just spent our two year anniversary renting a cabin here and they didn't disappoint. The owners are warm, funny, welcoming and they take pride in maintaining a beautiful and clean locale. We loved being able to get away from it all and experience what was a breathtaking and serene mini vacation. Our cabin was perfection, and it was so easy to remain comfortable and have a great time. The bathrooms we're AMAZING, the smelled great and were clean. The owners offered personal touches by sharing stories and their passion shows, the cabin was warm when we arrived and was so close to the river it was like heaven. They offered us ideas for local sightseeing and activities (1/2 mile to the waterfall trail, local breweries and trails!), and as an animal lover I enjoyed how sweet the cats on site were. MY ONLY COMPLAINT: I wish we didn't have to come home! All around one of the best trips we've taken and we'll definitely be returning. PS. If you're reading this Mr. M, we apologize again for our crazy dog. Thank you for being so approachable and gracious we enjoyed getting to know you and your wife!

We had a great time in Site 11 on a cold, sunny weekend. Our tent pad was clean and even and the site was the closest to the restrooms. We had kids and we felt safe having them okay at the playground with the group of friends we were with. Our friends stayed in a cabin and it was so cute! It had a Murphy bed and a loft and great shelving for storage. It had a4-6 person table that was used best with the Murphy bed out of the way. Fire pits were well maintained. Wood was available on site. Camp store had basics. Highly recommended!
