Travelers' Choice
Verdura – a paradisiacal expanse on Sicily’s stunning southwest coast – is their flagship resort. 230 hectares of sun-blushed Mediterranean coastline, countryside and hotel: space for the Forte ethos to shine. Insightful hospitality quietly caters to every desire. Sleek, environmentally sensitive architecture fuses with Latin terracottas, ochres and violets. Local charm with universal style. Italianate furnishings, breeze-brushed white muslins and, always, a sea view. Verdura’s vast scale and escapist atmosphere afford endless indulgence and choice. Choice to unfurl in its capacious spa, or lap its infinity pool. To play tennis among its orange groves. A round or two of golf. To master Sicilian cooking, or simply savour it by the sea. To explore Verdura’s 12th-century tower; helicopter across Etna; or stroll along its private beach. It’s your decision, at the Fortes’ invitation.

Good impression overall however a lot to improve , notably Rocks / stones on the beach Sun beds are 1 star hotel quality / unacceptable for this hotel standard - need also to add a mattress on each sunbed TV room is very tiny and old Food portions especially for the lunch/salads are too small. Beach bar Botanico too small and need to add more waiters. One place for serving lunch is not enough given the size of the hotel. Need at least two including one serving by the beach. Or at least sharing / snack food. Bathroom missing by the beach I would therefore recommend however many points really need to be improved to meet high standard quality hotels . And are disappointing. As the hotel has a strong asset : its wide space to deploy its full potential. Which is only partly used.

Hotel's Favorite
A top quality resort. Well equipped sea view room; it didn't have a particular Italian feel, though it was luxurious and tasteful. The swimming pools are massive. Good pool side service and plenty of space to relax and keep your distance. The spa is very well equipped; only gripe was the difficulty in getting slots, which seemed more a function of staff availability / shorter hours (presumably as a result of COVID). Good outside pools. For a resort, I was especially impressed with the food (breakfast to one side) as it was consistently outstanding; dinners were very enjoyable. We particularly enjoyed Amare for dinner, which is located by the beach and specialises in fish and pizza. Really exceeded expectations. And a cocktail before dinner at the bar is highly recommended; great waiter (offering recommendations on the hotel's house cocktails, which were excellent) and stunning sunset. Do not miss that experience! Breakfast however suffered a little bit as a result of COVID as they can no longer offer a buffet and everyone seemed to arrive at the same time, which meant that it was difficult to get service. A shame but it is something they will no doubt address as we all learn how to work around the virus. Overall the staff are excellent; from the concierge, reception, waiters, cleaning staff.... Personable, nothing is too much trouble... I have too many names of staff to commend. Make sure you visit local attractions; the Valley of the Temples (50 minutes away) is remarkable. I am not sure I would go back Verdura as I have now seen that part of Sicily and prefer to explore during the day (rather than spend time in a resort) but I would definitely recommend the resort. I would not hesitate to stay in another Rocco Forte Hotel based on this experience and can think of few resorts offering such stunning food. Thank you Verdura for a great stay

Dear GSUKKENT, Allow me to thank you for finding the time to share your feedback about your positive experience at the Verdura Resort. I will extend your compliments to the entire team, who will be delighted to hear how they contributed in creating such enjoyable impressions. While I understand you have become a connoisseur of Sicily, having visited the island thoroughly, we still hope you will decide to come back again in the future. In the meantime, allow me to say that we will be opening a second Sicilian hotel in Palermo in Spring 2021, just in case you would like to experience the beauty of this charming city, full of history and with a great culinary heritage. Additionally, our Villa Igiea is a great example of Italian Liberty Style, with a lovely view overlooking the sea, a stay not to be missed! Thank you your commitment towards Rocco Forte Hotels. From our side we will keep doing our outmost to make your next experience with us even more memorable! Kind regards, Giacomo Battafarano General Manager

We stayed at this resort for five nights in June 2021, in a Superior Deluxe Sea Front Room. Since we had only booked one day before our arrival, and had booked a transfer from Catania airport to the resort (an approx. 3 hour trip) through the hotel, we arrived under the assumption that it would be clear to the hotel staff, giving our time of arrival at Catania airport and the transfer time, that we would probably want to have dinner after our arrival. This in particular because no one had asked us if we wanted to make dinner reservations, or informed us that this may be necessary. However, to our surprise, we were informed on arrival that only one (of the four) restaurants of the resort was open, and there was no table available there until 10 pm. The alternative offered to us was to have dinner at the bar, or in our room. After we clearly expressed our dissatisfaction with these options, the restaurant happened to be able to identify a free table for the two of us already at 21.15h or so. That came in handy because we had to move to a different room because our original room had an ant colony in the bathroom. To be fair, the change of rooms was handled with no problems while we had dinner, and we did not experience any issues with ants in our new room. Unfortunately, our dinner at the "Amare" restaurant did not improve our first impression of the resort. The food was horrible and grossly overpriced. We asked the waiter for a recommendation, and he recommended a "typical Sicilian pasta" with prawns. The pasta cost EUR 42 per person (which is more expensive than the primi piatti in the Michelin-starred Heinz Beck restaurant in the Ashbee hotel in Taormina, to give you a comparison) and was absolutely tasteless. It tasted like pasta with sugar, butter, some tomato sauce and dead fish. The service was non-existent. My spouse served wine and water himself all evening - sorry, that just does not work if you sell a bottle of Planeta Cometa for EUR 55 in Sicily. We wanted to order more water, but no one noticed, so we got none. The entire staff appeared completely untrained and was running around helplessly and inefficiently. We had passed a wonderful stay at the Hotel de Russie last year and were really shocked about the level of (non-)service at the Amare restaurant. To be fair, the restaurant manager took off the EUR 42 p.P. for the horrible pasta dish from the bill after we complained about the non-existent service. After this experience, we did not dine at the resort again; we went to Locanda Perbellini al Mare in Bovo Marina and the Hostaria del Vicolo in Sciacca instead the following evenings. In general, one should be aware that the resort is in a rather remote location, and taking a taxi to outside restaurants or sights is rather expensive. E.g., the taxi we reserved through the hotel to go to Bovo Marina cost EUR 120 (return trip). Our room was very nice, but the housekeeping could have been better - no one cleaned the terrace during our entire stay. Quality of turndown service varied. The resort as such is nice, with a large pool area, and generally well maintained. The golf course also made a good impression (but we did not play there). Swimming in the sea is not so great because it is a beach with large pebbles, which make it uncomfortable to access the sea. We did not try out the spa because we found the massages and treatments grossly overpriced. Yes, it's a Rocco Forte hotel, but I am still struggling to see why massages there should be twice to three times the price of massages in Germany, given that wages are much lower in Sicily than in Germany, and given that very little in the resort is up to Rocco Forte standards. The only area of the hotel that was up to Rocco Forte standards was the bar, thanks to Yussuf, the excellent barkeeper. I would also like to thank the management for offering to discuss the issues we experienced with us when we left, and for taking certain items off the bill (namely the horrible dinner in the Amare restaurant). Let me be clear: The resort is not bad, but is is simply not up to Rocco Forte standards. It's more of a nice resort for a family vacation with small children (think an upscale Club Med), with a Kid's Club and kids plates. At the same time, it is charging the same prices as other, "real" Rocco Forte hotels - actually, the incidental costs were much higher than in the - fabulous - Villa Igiea. Interestingly, the Villa Igiea did not appear to have issues finding qualified staff, even though it only just opened in June. To sum up, we do not regret having stayed there, but we will not return either.

If you are looking for a one of a kind experience where you can leave all your troubles behind, and get treated like royalty, this is the place to go to! The Verdura resort has it all. The 60 meter infinity pools (yes, it is two of them), the golf courses, the spa (the biggest in Europe, I believe), the restaurants, the rooms and villas, the private beach, the location itself and especially the bar around bar chef Christian and his staff with their amazing cocktails and anybody working around the resort in general operates on a level that is hard to match. Thank you everybody for treating us so well. Me and my friends will most certainly be back. Grazie mille...!!!!
