It has been a while since we stayed in a Holiday Inn Express - maybe pre-covid? Two common issues in hotels/motels are lighting in the room and the outside light peeking through poorly designed window covering. Our king suite had an amazing number of light fixtures, all well designed. In all the room had nine (9)! In addition, all had easy to locate on/off placement.
In addition, the solid window shade blocked 99% of the morning sunlight!
Seating wise our room had a small sofa bed and another comfortable sitting chair with a small table in between plus a coffee table. That was a great feature. The room also had a desk and chair. A small area/seat under the tv was another area to place your baggage on.
The toilet and shower were in a room of their own. Always a plus!
Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a good as others have said. One of the nicest attendants I have seen.

After reading some recent reviews, we were wondering what to expect. This place was wonderful! It has lots of suites (used to be Comfort Suites) with clean, large rooms and even an extra sink in the kitchenette area. The staff is super friendly, and they really seem to want the customers to have a pleasant stay. The landscaping, fountain, and lobby are all beautiful, and the hotel seems to have renovations often. Lindsey in housekeeping was especially nice to us and fixed our minor issue immediately! We travel very often, and this is one of the nicest Holiday Inn Expresses we've been to.

It's been a year since I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express near Virginia Tech campus. As expected, they provided spacious rooms and comfortable bedding. In the past year, I noticed a few upgrades: Green Mountain K-Cups in the room, some additional fitness equipment, and Dove products in the bathroom.
Although this property is a bit further from campus than other hotels, it was an easy walk to campus and the a couple miles to the football stadium.
The staff at the hotel continues to be friendly and very competent. Our keys and checkin info were waiting for us at the front desk when we arrived very late on Friday night, due to a delayed flight.
The complementaty breakfast has a bit of everything for everyone, and is decent enough for a quick bite if you don't want to wait in line at a Blacksburg breakfast restaurant.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel. The front desk staff was very kind and helpful somewhat. We called the front desk from another location to get ahold of my 92 year old grandpa and she said call his cellphone. I told her he doesn't have one and she informed us she couldn't send us to his room to talk to him.
We had some issues with our first room with ants and roaches in the room. We moved rooms after speaking to the front desk and the manager was very kind and discounted the room that night.
The continental breakfast was not very good either. We just ended up going to eat out.
The pool was closed one night due to someone pooping in the pool.
The elevators kept breaking down and were awful also.
I give this hotel a 3 of 5 based solely off the friendliness of the manager and most of the staff. Our second room was fine.

The hotel was nice and clean. Our room was large. We had a 2 Queen suite with a small kitchenette. The staff was very friendly and overall the stay was nice. I had called to request a roll away bed and was told that was no problem. When we got there I was told they donāt have rollaway beds. This was pretty frustrating as we had to rearrange where everyone slept.
Housekeeping will not come into do any cleaning unless asked. We didnāt have an issue with this as we just asked for more towels when needed etc.
The pool was closed the first day and a half. It was rainy when we got there so it was the only source of entertainment for the kids. The pool area is indoors and very nice.
The breakfast was mediocre and there was no variation day by day. We stayed for 5 days and there was less and less available each day. They ran out of salt, yogurt, fruit, etc. The juice is not good at all compared to other Holiday Inn Expresses we have stayed at. When I asked if they had refills the employee told us no, when they run out thatās it until the next order.
Iām a platinum member with IHG hotels. We have stayed at quite a few across the country. This was not a good representation of the brand. When we come back to Blacksburg we will find a different hotel.

Pros: This was a pretty nice place as it is relatively new and everything is in good condition. My room had a comfortable bed and a separate seating area with a sofa and chair and computer table. Also there was a mini bar with refrigerator and microwave oven which came in handy. There's a fitness room on the ground floor that has some cardio equipment and some hand weights. I went to breakfast on my first morning and it was good.
Cons: the girl at the front desk when I checked in just isn't cut out for that type of job...just not friendly at all. For those of you that are members of the IHG Rewards Club, I got no acknowledgment of being a platinum member here and no type of room upgrade. In fact I could tell by looking at the room map on the back of my door that I had one of the smallest rooms on the entire floor. Maintenance issues: check the air conditioner filters in your room as mine were quite dirty so I cleaned them out in the bathtub as housekeeping had already gone home for the day. The freezer compartment in my mini fridge needs to be defrosted.

The room was large and bed was comfortable, but the service was no where near the other hotels used on this trip. The check in process was very impersonal and rushed. It seemed like the employee was more interested in getting back to their phone, which was out on the counter and kept ringing, than checking us in. There was no extra info offered at all, such as your room number is xxx, elevators are down the hall, or breakfast times. The next morning we sat in the breakfast are for about 30 mins and never saw anyone at the front desk or checking the breakfast area to clean or refill.

Pros: king suite room was spacious, quiet from outside or room noise, and clean. Room was on back of hotel. There is a wall between the bed and the sofa is full height and the width is about half the length of the bed. This is more privacy than some other set-ups. Also there was a real bathroom door as opposed to a glass barn door. The desk and fridge and sink were tucked away in a book which was also nice if someone wanted to work while sleep sofa was open. Lighting was also good. Rate was MUCH lower than some other hotels in the area.
Cons: window A/C was noisy and the bed was very close to it. Bed mattress was really hard.

Holiday is in an excellent location, as we visited for university tours. Our room was large and spacious, accommodating 4 adults (myself and my teens). Breakfast was sufficient and delicious with sufficient variety (scrambled eggs, pork and turkey sausage, yogurt, oatmeal etc). The front desk staff were friendly and check in was quick.
We used the gym and were happy with the equipment, towels and tv.
The hotel room was very clean and perfectly suited to our needs. Lots of pillows and a full size pull out couch.

This was an excellent place to stay. Our room was large and comfortable, the bed just right for a good nights sleep. Staff were very friendly , they were very helpful when we needed to sort out a problem with a hire car. From our room we had the most amazing view over the trees and the sunset was beautiful.
