PortAventura Hotel El Paso seems to offer a mixed bag of experiences, with some travelers praising its pool and park access, while others are less impressed, citing dated and basic rooms needing attention. Guests have had varied encounters with the service, often finding it disorganized and occasionally rude, which detracts from the overall atmosphere. Despite the clean public areas, the inconsistent room upkeep and additional fees have led to a general disappointment in the perceived value of the hotel.

Check in a nightmare an hour and a half wait(arrived on a weekend) We arrived a day late so room was ready but usually not ready till 3.
Kids pool no splash equipment as advertised all broken just a shallow pool. Not enough umbrellas in the kids area.
Booking slots for breakfast and dinner forget it what are they going to do physically carry you out.
Too many rules at the pool e.g no sun glasses ( depends which life guard is on)
Lunchtime snack bar too small.
Good value for money on all inclusive
Food ok bit samey but so is every all inclusive always something to eat
PortAventura rides amazing and all free with all inclusive and open until 11.30 at night when there is a parade and fireworks.sesame land is great for smaller children.
Ferrari land good but open until 5.30 it was very hot in the daytime so only stayed a couple of hours.
Rooms standard comfortable enough, free safety deposit towels to hire are 2 euros cleaning fee and 15 euros refunded deposit per towel, take your own if you’ve room in the case.
Overall good holiday even though we only had 6 nights instead of 7 due to a flight delay.
This is an honest review we took our 5 year old granddaughter that’s why we chose PortAventura so there was plenty to do me and my husband generally go four or five star and we found this ok not posh but sufficient for the type of holiday it was.

I'll start with the positives, the pool is lovely, there are plenty of loungers and shade if required, still don't know why the use that weird roasting hot sand that gets everywhere, just get rid of it and use that fake grass that's also as hot as the sun but at least it's not gritty.

The staff are friendly but many seem kinda new and not up to speed which isn't there fault, and most have far more Emglish that I have Spanish so we got by.

The breakfast is decent although busy and the app booking system seems to be rather pointless as regardless of when you go it's queued out the door but the restaurant isn't remotely full.

Rooms are pleasant enough, beds are usable without being particularly comfy, why on Earth can't they just give you normal pillows? Anyway, the rooms are cleaned daily with fresh towels.

I liked the reusable cup system of paying a Euro, refundable, rather than using dozens of paper cups.

The Park is still fantastic, the rides, shows and sideshows are all still amazing with the parade and fireworks absolutely worth doing a couple of times.

Toilets aren't cleaned enough, it's busy and really they need checked hourly and there's no chance thats happening.

Lunch food is by the pool only and sometimes it's rammed the food is basic and often takes a while to replace, it's not like they don't know it will be busy.

Dinner is boring, it's not awful, although the grill bit overcooked everything, we had dinner up the park or out in Salou a few times.

Hundreds of overexcited school kids, but that's all resorts like this all the time, and I never found them any more annoying than any other large group.

You get food vouchers to use up the park, you can also use them in the a la carte restaurants but no one tells you, we've been before so knew what we could do. The Iron Horse is decent, and the Torres wine bar is nice too but the La Liga Bar is serving up some lovely food and cocktails and the wine list is excellent.

One minor gripe is that three of our vouchers didn't work so I got stung for 25 euro.

The fast pass thing is a joke too, rather than 60 euro for your stay it's 65 for one day, the queues are bonkers during the day but between 7.30pm and 10.30pm it's pretty much walk on, go early or last thing to really enjoy the park.

Would we come again is always the question to ask, and I dunno, I think maybe not. Will return to Portaventura though.

Oh and there's no gym, I had to pay 10 euro a day to use the Caribe gym which was 5 euro more than it was worth.

Overall I’m disappointed with our experience. We are a family of 5 and booked two rooms. We were allocated rooms in the Guajolote block. One room smelt musty with a broken shower, the diverter pin knob to send water from the tap to shower would not stay up (5025). The second room was dirty, with stained walls (5023).

The location is excellent. It’s very close to all three parks and about 25 minute walk into Salou.

Some of the staff were rude. One particular older gentleman who served in the evening buffet and daytime buffet by the pool was very rude towards us at several times during our stay. Understandably, due to covid all food is served by staff and this particular gentleman didn’t smile and seemed cross when asking for food. He got annoyed and shouted that he didn’t speak English. On another occasion I had paid €60 for 5 of us to eat in the pool buffet and he refused to serve two of my children, saying they hadn’t paid. He was not polite and he appeared very abrupt. He was rather unpleasant and not what you would expect in a holiday destination.

There was no evening entertainment.

The pool was lovely and warm, very clean and a fantastic size.

I enjoyed the food. There was enough variety for all our family. We had to book a time slot. The first slot for the evening buffet started at 8pm, which I thought was very late.

Overall I would give this hotel 3 stars. The rooms need updating/cleaned and for lack of evening entertainment.

I have just returned from Hotel El Paso after an 11 night stay with my husband and 2 children (13 & 10). We were a bit apprehensive after reading some of the negative reviews but we were very impressed.

On arrival we were greeted and asked that only 1 adult check in while the rest of us waited on the sofas. It took my husband about 10 minutes to check in and he was told he would get a text by 3pm letting us know when our room was ready (which we did).

The room was a good size, clean and we had a pool view which was a bonus. Every day the room was cleaned and fresh towels were provided. The beds were comfortable and clean.

The pool - I have read a lot of reviews on here about how strict the lifeguards are and all the rules etc. Well I’m not sure where these people were looking but all the lifeguards were polite, friendly and approachable. Every day they had a smile on their faces and only blew the whistle if someone was doing something they shouldn’t. When the whistle was blown, it wasn’t done aggressively, just a polite reminder. I even saw a lifeguard provide string to someone so they could wear their glasses in the pool. My children wore T-shirts and hats in the pool and the lifeguards didn’t say a word. Children were throwing and playing with diving weights and again, nothing said.

There are plenty of sun beds, you don’t need to be getting up at 6am to reserve one. Some days we didn’t get to the pool until the afternoon and there were still sun beds free.

Bars/drinks - when staying at the hotel you can buy a plastic cup for €1 which you can get refunded on return of the cup at the end of your stay. Well worth doing as otherwise you get given paper cups. There’s a large selection of drinks, all soft drinks are branded (Coca-Cola, Fanta Zero, Sprite) and the beer is Estrella. Slush drinks are also included. The bar staff were always pleasant and friendly, they all seemed to work long hours, I didn’t notice them have a day off! The queues were never too long either.

Food - as with any all inclusive, the food gets a bit repetitive and with them trying to cater for everyone, the same foods are out each day. I haven’t been to an all inclusive hotel where this isn’t the case. We had steak for dinner one night and it was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had!

The food vouchers you get given for use in Port Aventura are such amazing value. We didn’t even use half of ours and had some amazing meals in the parks. A definite must is Bora Bora, the food there was lovely! You get so much for each voucher too, I can’t recommend using them enough. If you’re bored of the hotel food, just pop into the park for some food!

There isn’t any evening entertainment but we didn’t expect there to be with a theme park next door. We heard a few families complaining about there being no entertainment or kids clubs. You shouldn’t need any entertainment when you’ve got a theme park on your doorstep.

The beach is a short distance away (it took us a slow 20-30 min walk depending on how hot it is but there is a taxi rank right outside the hotel). This is a great beach, the sea was warm, the beach clean and there are plenty of bars and restaurants. Worth a visit at night time.

I only have 2 negative things to add but neither are the hotels fault….the wasps at the snack bar, there are so many! Also, I got bitten so many times, mosquitoes everywhere all day, every day!

I would 100% recommend this hotel and will definitely consider it next time we are planning a holiday.

We have stayed at this hotel three times previously and had a really good time, however our trip this year was far from the holiday we expected.
We came with friends who where there on our sole recommendations which was embarrassing to say the least.
Firstly, I’m aware of the rules and regulations surrounding covid but that can not excuse the level of service and cleanliness we experienced.
Our room was really smelly, like a musty smell. I complained and was told it would be cleaned, it made no difference.
Our safe didn’t work and after visiting reception (queueing for 20+ Mins) twice, we were told it would be fixed but I gave up in the end.
The hotel staff are rude and have zero customer service skills. We were on an all inclusive holiday yet we were made to feel we were doing something wrong when ordering drinks etc.
The buffet set up is ridiculous, overcrowded, rude staff and the selection of food available is very poor. Previously the buffet has had a huge variety of good quality food.

On an evening the hotel is desolate, there is no entertainment in the hotel at all. The bar down by the maze where previously has been an enjoyable place to sit with music etc wasn’t even open. Resulting in the only place to get a drink on an evening was the upstairs bar where the queues where huge and staff rude.

The whole hotel needs a revamp, the pool area is dirty , tiles loose in the pool, awful and uncomfortable sun beds. Not to mention the disgusting smell that greets you whilst on your sun lounger.

We have loved this hotel in the past and we understand the main attraction is the theme parks which we love but again queues where ridiculous and buying fast passes was pointless as the fast pass queue was also long.

Overall, it is far from the 4*s it claims and I will not be returning.

This was our families 3rd visit to El Paso (2 adults & 14yr - 12yr) mainly because it was an all rounder and we loved it before. Unfortunately this visit was a major disappointment for us all.

On arrival expect to wait until we’ll after 2pm for a room. Suitcases can be left in lockers which are self service and easy to get. They’re €4 for the medium size and €6 for the large. You’ll need a large locker for one medium sized case and you’ll also fit a rucksack inside too. Be sure to take note of your pin and details after closing the locker as you’ll need these to open it again.

We eventually had to ask 3 hours after check in if a room was available as the text message never arrived. Hotels rooms are dated and small but does the job, and cleaned every day. Understandable things have changed post pandemic but the food was very basic and breakfast and dinner slots had to be pre booked on the website beforehand, there was zero entrainment apart for the children which ended after 9.30pm.

Over all the only positives in my personal opinion were the pool which is large and enough loungers, and the free access to Portaventura and Ferrari land, other than that the price just isn’t worth it. It’s disappointing as we always looked forward to coming back but this will probably be our last visit here.

Recently returned home after a 5 day stay at El Paso.
Check in was straight forward and the receptionist provided plenty of information regarding meal times, How to use the vouchers etc.
We had a ground floor room in Guajalote which was clean & spacious, With plenty of storage for our clothes (We had noise issues with our neighbours as it was an adjoining room but thankfully they checked out on our 2nd day)
We ate in the buffet on the 1st night which had plenty of choice ( Lamb chops, Salmon, pasta, rice, stew, chips, salad, pizza etc) and also had buffet breakfast each day which was plentiful, I did prebook my slots but nobody checked and we did go earlier / later than booked a few times.
We visited the pool snack bar for drinks and food twice which had plenty of options (Chips, burgers, nuggets, salad, nachos, steak)
We ate at El Coyote 1 night, Service and staff were fantastic. Food was good although the Apple crumble was pie 😂
We used our lunch vouchers over 2 evenings at Laliga Twentynine’s (They accepted vouchers towards the whole bill)
Food was amazing (Make sure to ask for burgers and steak well done if thats what you prefer otherwise they are pink) and the staff were fantastic, Would 100% recommend giving it a try (I will upload food photos separately).
Park entrance is literally minutes away from the hotel and we had no problems scanning our room cards for entry (Make sure you scan your card every time you make a purchase as it all goes towards a discount)
Parade and Fireworks are a must see, and there was no safety issues leaving the park at night as security was visable along the route and at the hotel.
All in all we had a fantastic time and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Half way through our 7 night stay and can’t wait to go home. Checked in 12pm (room wasn’t ready until 3pm) told to put luggage in payable lockers but was none available, then said would receive a text when room was ready but by 5 pm still hadn’t heard so had to join along queue at the check in desk for a second time. We were in the main building on first floor. Room was okay nothing better than a 3* hotel room. Had to book breakfast and dinner for the full week as soon as you arrive some nights dinner was at 9pm. Food was nothing special although we did enjoy food at the maya area near the pool. Long queues for breakfast and dinner, very badly organised and then the Spanish children from school trips who never seemed to be supervised just pushed in front in the line. No atmosphere around the pool area and only allowed to swim in the pool, no inflatables or balls allowed and lifeguards blew the whistle if you had too much fun. Then don’t get me started on the carry on in the corridors until the early hours with unsupervised teenagers screaming, shouting, banging and everything else that they could find to do. Complained to reception several times to be told they would try to locate the teachers. We stayed here as thought it would be a good perk for the parks but you don’t get any. Express passes are 5euros cheaper than paying in the parks for them. For what you pay to stay here I’d rather stay in Salou and buy a few day park passes. Definitely won’t return to this hotel.

Although the hotel has implemented many COVID secure measures, is clean and has a great location, there are many factors which let the hotel down. The rules surrounding the pool use are too strict - no balls, no inflatables eg lilo’s, no sunglasses. The sun loungers, although plentiful, are extremely uncomfortable (resulting in many people bringing their bed pillows down to poolside to lie on).

Mealtimes are set durations, which is often cut short because of the limited time allowed. Each morning we have had to queue 20-30 minutes for breakfast and then given only 20 minutes to eat! Hardly relaxing. Evening meals are similar and we have been asked to leave the restaurant each evening to make way for the next set of diners.

The hotel doesn’t offer anywhere to buy a snack during the day, which is bizarre. The Club Maya has food available, but is only available to guests on all inclusive or to pay a set fee for a buffet meal. But if you just want a sandwich or snack, then you’ll have to take a 10 minute walk out of the hotel to find somewhere. Alternatively, at 5pm Bar Maya opens which does serve snacks, but it’s a long wait from breakfast to 5pm! Also, for those on the all inclusive option, they aren’t allowed to eat at the pool but have to remain in the Club Maya bar area. When I asked to upgrade to all inclusive I was informed that it couldn’t be done. Very poor customer service overall on the eating / dining area.

The staff are extremely good, welcoming and friendly, but could not respond positively to the above issues when raised.

Face coverings are compulsory, indoors and outdoors. The only exceptions being when sat in a bar / restaurant to eat or drink, or when sunbathing.

Great location, 5 minute walk to the theme park and 15 minutes to the beach. Rooms serviced each day are large and spacious, with good air con. Would have benefitted from a fridge though.

I was hoping the previous reviews were exaggerated but unfortunately they are not!
Check in on arrival took forever and didn’t seem very organised at all. We had to wait until 3.30pm for our room which was very basic and in need of redecorating, we are a family of 4 and had to share a room (1 double bed and 1 bunk bed) the blankets on the beds were filthy so we asked for new ones which never arrived but it didn’t matter as the room was too hot with poor air conditioning.
Meal times are a complete nightmare and a shambles! You have to book slots but even that doesn’t guarantee you will get your meal in that time. You have to queue for ages every single time even though you can clearly see lots of empty available tables? The food itself is very samey - chips, burgers, hot dogs, pasta. It tastes ok but the chaos around you while eating is off putting and like a cattle market.
What spoilt our holiday the most was the Spanish teenagers running around like idiots, pushing in the dinner queues and constantly shouting and screaming! Their behaviour in the swimming pool was terrible, so much so that when loads were in there I got my kids out for safety.
The lifeguards love to blow their whistles at the slightest splash but funnily enough not as much with the teens? My daughter got told to get out of the pool because she was wearing a t shirt over her swim costume to protect her shoulders which had a bit of sunburn on them? When I questioned this I just got told ‘it is our rules!’
Yet more large queues in the evenings for the bar which only has 1 person serving and they certainly like to take their time!!
Luckily we had passes for Port Aventura so escaped there most days which is brilliant but again more queuing. We also had a days pass for Ferrari Land which was great too.
Salou is only a 15 minute walk away and there are lots of great bars there for a nice cocktail and the beach is lovely too.
All in all, the hotel grounds and pool are lovely but the rooms, meal system and unruly teens spoilt it for us so definitely wouldn’t return.
